The loading screens make the game unplayable
I play on two very different computers, during the day (at work) it’s a lowly Intel i3 with integrated graphics and 4 gig of ram, old 500 gig HD, and a crappy DSL connection, the game is noticeably slower loading, playing most any content maxes out every aspect of the machine. (we won’t even mention zergs, or particle effects)
At home it’s a higher level i5 2500k OC’d, water cooled cpu, 8 gig of ram, 2x GTX 560ti cards, 250gig SSD, on a cable connection to the interwebs, never a hiccup on this machine and it’ll maintain 30+fps in all but the most challenging zergs where it’ll drop into the 20’s and is still playable, in the open zones it’s well over 60+fps away from mobs or zergs.
At work loading screens take 3-4 times as long as at home where they average 10-30sec in LA they are measured in minutes on the work computer, the work computer has a hard time in LA or any other populated area keeping 15fps and the lag in zergs is unplayable so if I play at work I’m normally just out in zones gathering mats hoping not to run into a mob.
These two computers and internet connections are like night and day, if I had to rely on a slow connection and slow PC that was graphically challenged I’d just go back to playing console games.
Both of these computer are about 18 months old and are running 64bit versions of Win7 but are light years apart in specs and it shows just how bad or how good it can be. On the home PC when I go to LA the fans on the video cards kick into high and stay there until I leave the area with no other noticeable indication of the amount of work they are performing, the work PC well it is laggy, freezes, and is noticeably stretched beyond it’s capabilities.
do you mind sharing your internet connection and location in which you are connecting to guild wars 2?
because, internet connection speed is one of the factors for the loading time in guild wars 2 as well.
and sometimes, location.
i have a dutch guild member with excellent internet speed, however, for unknown reasons, his loading speed is so bad, he often experience “hung” loading screens.
as in, he would just be stuck at the loading screen, which requires him to close the guild wars 2 application and try again.
no idea why this happens as he has a very fast internet connection at dutch.
his computer specs is decent as well.the only other reason i can think of, must be the physical location.
I’m Dutch, I play on Gandara (EU), I haven’t had problems like that since the first few weeks after launch!

aaah thanks for sharing!
well, tim (our dutch guild member) joins us in Sea of Sorrows (NA) so i dunno how he would fare in EU servers.
on the other hand, we had a new guild member jae, who was originally in ROS, an EU server. he said he experienced 2 seconds delay while playing there. jae is in Malaysia though. somehow he managed to play WvW in EU servers for more than a year before moving back to Sea of Sorrows (NA) with us.
