I had originally sent this as feedback through the contact options, but the support person sent it back and suggested I post it to the forums since the devs wouldn’t actually see it otherwise :-P

To the developers and other staff at ArenaNet:

I just wanted to share how much I am enjoying Guild Wars 2 and send you all some encouragement :-) I know the launch of an MMO, or really any given day in an MMO’s life, brings a lot of naysayers and people complaining about this or that. I hope you all know that there are lots and lots of people who are loving Guild Wars 2 just how it is.

By way of example, I was reading about Necromancers the other day (my main is a 53 Necromancer right now) and how angry some people were that they couldn’t achieve combos off themselves. The class needs fixed! It’s just so bad! I was a bit surprised by their vehemence, because I’m loving Necro. My asura is totally awesome and I’m very happy with the balance and gameplay. And combos should be for groups anyways.

If you haven’t seen it, there was a great rant on Reddit recently about how people too often demand a meaningless grind. You can see it at http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/104j7o/you_are_all_destroying_the_mmo_genre_and_you_dont/ and I wholeheartedly agree. I love that Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have that same sort of grinding. I would like to see some tweaks (Cadaceus’s Manor is pretty easy. Ascalonian Catacombs is a bit too hard.), but overall I’m super-happy. I’ve been on MMOs a long time, and MUDs before them, and GW2 is all-around… well, almost the best. It’s hard to knock SWG off the idealized pedestal it occupies in my memory. But this certainly comes close to and may even surpass SWG!

So please, don’t pay the whingers and complainers too much attention. The game is great, and so are all of you :-) I can’t wait to see more of the game as I progress, and I hope you don’t give in to the complainers and water things down. Keep it up.

Oh, and let me add: we did an explore mode of Cadaceus’s Manor the other night and it was the most fun I’ve had dying over and over in an MMO ever. Each fight probably took us 3-4 tries and we all had a blast learning how to do it and seeing what was around the next corner.

Cheers,

I’m just going to bump this to give it a good chance at being read. We don’t see these threads too often and I happen to agree with your sentiment about the game in general. Woop!

(So please, don’t pay the whingers and complainers too much attention. The game is great )

Probably the worst advice you can ever give to any game company. But sadly people with genuine complaints are also lumped into category of whiners.

Everything is all right game is just well..great!

Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.

Indeed, I love how they only require you to do 30-40 runs of the same dungeon to get a full armor set, I was already tired of grinding. Oh wait…

Adding my support and kudos to the peeps at ANet!

I remember reading a dev blog awhile back, it said you guys had thick skins and were ready for launch. I was thinking hoo boy, I hope they do have thick skins because we’ve all seen what happens when any game launches these days.

Overall I’ve had a stellar experience playing this game, have played it more than any other game (sleep, I miss you so!), have met some of the greatest people and had some of the most unique, fun, surprising, thoughtful and memorable experiences than any other MMORPG. I always walk away from my game sessions smiling

The people who understand what you’re doing here, the ones that “get it” are ecstatic with this gem of game – it truly is a work of art.

I’m impressed with the hardworking dedication and steadfast vision of the ANet team, keep up the good work and know you have our support!

I know people like to mention WoW a lot, but let’s be honest here: You’re looking at literally hundreds of runs of dungeons and raids over several months to get a full set of top-tier armor in WoW.

Same goes for plenty of other MMOs.

30-40 runs is NOTHING compared to that. Besides, you can save the money and just buy similar Exotic pieces from the TP in not a lot of time anyway. Then there’s the Exotic Karma armor sold by vendors throughout Orr.

There is a definite difference between those who ‘whine and complain’ and those who bring genuine constructive criticism. Players should bring criticism to the attention of the game developers but posts which are attention seeking, dummy spitting rants serve no purpose.

Whilst I agree with most of the OP I would like to think that ANet are not just going to say ‘Our work is done’ and crack a cold one on the strength of the OP. I look forward to what is to come in GW2.

Except in WoW you actually do different dungeons to get the badges/emblems or whatever they’ll called nowadays. The reason WoW become dull is because every 2 years you’d get a hard reset to all your equipment. As of now, there’s no guarantee that this won’t be the case with Guild Wars 2, since we don’t know whether they will or won’t be increasing the level cap in expansions.

And yet not a single run of the dungeon is required…you can never do a single dungeon in GW2 and still be a viable member of any DE, WvW or anywhere else…..there is NO required grind, its all optional

If you want to get a full set of Tier 13 Cataclysm armor, you’re going to be running some SPECIFIC raids dozens of times. You can’t get the high end armor doing dungeons only. There’s also time constraints on that as well, so you’re literally talking about MONTHS of waiting and working to get that armor.

GW2 provides a MUCH faster path to get the higher end armors.

What about their philosophy that there shouldn’t be any grind, be it required or optional? Oh well, I guess that with all the new people around, you can’t expect everyone to know that was what the game was supposed to be like a couple of years ago.

And exotics, with the exception of Karma purchased and personal story items, are not soulbound the second you pick them up. You can BUY all the good armor and weapons off the TP. Might not LOOK the same, but the stats are the same.

On that account, you are correct. However, I never cared much about raid armor in WoW because it looked ugly and WoW never claimed not to be grindy. I cannot accept that a game who promotes itself on fun, rather than mindless farming can actually require you to do a dungeon 30 times.
