Best MMO, but will quickly be replaced by MMOs that have learnt from GW2s mistakes if they continue to fail to improve core systems instead of focusing entirely on themepark sideshows.

Which MMOs are you referring to? Hypothetical MMO That Does Everything Better #1289?

“I didn’t buy into GW2 being the second coming of christ.
I just wanted a AAA MMO with no sub made by ArenaNet. And it’s awesome.”

LMAO! I think people don’t get the idea that MMOs at launch are either tiny and polished (aka Rift) are large and buggy (aka Vanguard, Warhammer, AoC).

No game launching today is going to be significantly better than an older game, including Guild Wars 2. Many features were (and some still are) lacking. But I don’t believe any other game will be in a much better position at launch.

People who think they will are the people that keep running from MMO to MMO.

True. And GW2 most definitely managed to capture the people running away from gear threadmills and irrational grind requirements. I don’t see a single game on the horizon with a low gear cap and such fast levelling. Probably won’t come until GW2 can boost 6 million sales or so.

At the very least until that time I’ll stay with GW2, just like I stuck with GW1 regardless of WoW, aion, a million f2p games. I don’t play grinders anymore.

My next MMO will probably Guild Wars 3.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

I think that MMO players have an entirely different yard stick that they measure games with, and it’s a pretty crooked, yet overly critical yardstick. They expect an MMO to be a very very specific way, and if it’s not precisely that way, then something must be broken. People seem to look at other genres differently though. It’s okay for a different type of game to try to be different. To them, diversity is acceptable as long as it doesn’t have an “MMO sticker” on the box.

I don’t know about the best game ever, it is certainly good with exploration and puzzles, but it falls short after those things are finished.

I am currently standing all alone staring at group events that are impossible to solo. Which is fine with me, but ..there is no one around….

On one hand, you might want to consider if it’s your server’s prime time. It’s 9:44 AM here on the east coast US. I play on Dragonbrand and it usually gets hopping around 5PM my time.

On the other hand, Anet could definitely ramp up the rewards for doing events. Right now they give such mediocre silver and karma that people seem to only do them to complete a daily or if they happen to be leveling. There’s no incentive for any of my 6 level 80s to do any event besides Jormag, SB, Shatt, etc because of the rare item, and because those events are stupidly easy. They definitely could do some work on the dynamic event system. The challenging ones are unrewarding and the rewarding ones are unchallenging.

I definitely understand about prime time playing and how it makes the game better. My point is, why are there group events during slow periods when there is absolutely no one around? It just makes it to where anyone who might not get a chance to play during prime time, or who’s days off are mid week can’t play, or are blocked from nearly every area they try to go by events they have no chance in hell of doing.

Does Anet only want 9am-5pm weekends off players, because yeah, that’s an awful lot of players they are turning away.

I also recently purchased The Secret World and downloaded Star Trek Online but haven’t had the time to get into them yet.

As well as Marvel Heroes.

Try guesting to a busier server. It’s free and solves the problem often. Also don’t forget to ask in map chat for help. ON my server, there’s plenty of that going on.

Agree that GW2 is the best MMO ever made – and is getting better with every update.

MMOs, however, are gauged differently from other games. While single player games are usually judged on their entertainment value at launch, an MMO is judged by what it offers players TODAY. Its a pretty demanding standard to live up to.

I think ArenaNet has the systems, resources and funding in place to keep the game amazing on a day to day basis well into the future, but – as with any MMO – only time will tell.

With that in mind, for the foreseeable future, GW2 is my MMO of choice.

I talk a lot. Some people would hate it. My wife loves it. It’s not a flaw to her. I just have a niche audience.

Haha, I’m putting this in my sig. <3

Actually what you’re calling faith, I’m thinking is desperation. I’ve tried tons of MMOs and I couldn’t stay with any of them more than a few months. Loved the idea of the genre, hated the execution.

Anet really does seem to understand what I want in a game…and you know…I’m not so different from the rest of humanity that I’m the only guy that feels this way. I must be part of a demographic on some level.

So Anet has come closer to my demographic than anyone else has. They approach the genre from my point of view, so I have less problems with what they do than people who belong to a different demographic.

It’s because of this that I’m optimistic.

TBH, I miss healing. There is a ton this game does right. But, there are just some players who don’t want to spend time looking for ways to increase their dps numbers. Combo all I want as an Ele, I am still not a healer. I miss being a healer. It is the one thing that will drive me away from this game, every time I attempt it. I just….don’t like damaging enemies. Combos only go so far before I am just….facemashing to output dps.
To each their own, I know. There will be one come soon enough, and I will not be here to harp about it anymore, don’t worry.

This game deserves a huge thumbs up, never played anything like it. Captures everything I love about video games. Awesome job guys.

The body of the the post was acceptable even though fanboyish—however the title was so far off I can’t see it as anything other than trolling.

No the ‘…" wasn’t to make this title seem sarcastic, though I can see why someone would think that maybe.

I just played this game for a month now. Got it when it was released, but only recently started playing it due to being super busy. I hit 80, do WvW, travel and do quests and whoa, this game is like crack. Everything from the gorgeous graphics to the action combat that actually involves some skill and moving around to actually dodge and block unlike so many stand and button mash mmo’s.

I’ve played so many mmo’s, they all feel the same except for Regnum Online, and this one. I’ve played games since I was 5, everything from Final Fantasy 1, to CoD, all the Zelda’s, 100’s of games etc. And yeah, like the title says, this game is my favorite game ever made:p It’s not sarcastic.
It’s all a matter of taste, and this one appeals to me like hell, so like my opening post says, kudos to the developers. After seeing this game, and playing it for just one month, I have to thank someone for giving this to me:p .

If I had to say what this games biggest flaw is, it’s that there are not enough skills to be able to be used at one time, and that the weapon skills are bound to the set keys. I would give a more expanded skill set bar. And that’s the only thing that I found not perfect in this game.

What keeps me in guild Wars 2 is the combat, that’s what sets this game apart from others. The game I come from, there exist resists, and evades, and the system is random. A level 1 noob can be resting and he will resist 3 spells in a row maybe or evade 2 attacks. The game was amazing, I played it for around 5 years simply because I love Realm vs Realm/ WvW games and it nailed it down pretty amazingly despite the evade/resist thing, but I switched to this one because you actually dodge \o/ in this one or block and the fighting is fluid. Not to mention the freaking amazing world.
