Time to be transparent: precursor crafting
This was answered by a dev on the forums in the spring – it is on the back burner due to changes around the reward system. There would be no further news until they had something workable and ready.
The recent Dry Top scavenger hunt plus some of the collectible scavenger hunts is likely them experimenting with the best way to roll something like this out. The fact that no reply has given, despite being mentioned in just about every main thread on these forums is likely that there is no information to give right now.
That’s my take on the situation.
Adeu? You meant ado? And it’s about 1 year, not 2.
They delayed the “precursor scavenger hunt” because they have no freaking clue how that should work and they don’t want to fail, disappointing everyone.
Honestly, considering the alarming amount of horrible or plainly botched updates they release, I hope they’ll just scrap the idea so I won’t be more disappointed.
Anyway, if you think about it, the creation process for mawdey could very well be their tentative at getting their feet wet. “Do players like this kind of stuff to craft the pre?” We might see a scavenger hunt in a couple of years, at this rate. Teehee.
Let’s see if someone deigns him/herself to throw some more PR talk at this thread. I’m curious.
Nothing is off the table.

Tentative? Do you mean "attempt?"

Because we can’t be angry about both?

We want to let you know that the ability to build your precursor will not be in our upcoming Feature Pack. The way progression and rewards work in Guild Wars 2 have changed quite a bit since we initially talked about that feature, and our main horizontal progression systems are about to get some additional updates in the upcoming feature pack. Because of that, we are looking into several ways to integrate building your precursor into our new updated reward and progression systems we’re working on, which is requiring additional development time and iteration. As always, we’ll share details on this system once it’s far enough along in production we’re ready to discuss it.

Crafting precursors? haha… I wouldn’t hold my breath! You’re better off dumping rares and exotics into the toilet. As sad as it sounds, you’ll get a precursor faster doing that than waiting on precursor crafting to be introduced into GW2.
(Or just save up for your precursor and buy it from the TP.)
Good luck! You’re going to need it!
As shown above, this is one of the areas where they were transparent some (6+ months) time ago.
It does seem as though the Devs are trying some different ideas with scavenger-type quests and crafting in stages. Regardless, it may not prove easier or less cost or time-intensive however Precursor attainment may evolve.
A combination of collection achievements and Mawdery hunt seems like a fun idea. I hope they integrate actual legendary making with it too.
1)What’s currently being done about it?
2)Has it been scrapped? If so, why?
3)If not, when can we expect it?
ArenaNet expected reply:
1) “I will contact the devs regarding this issue”, week after, if ever, “Good news! The devs are aware of this request and are doing their best effort :-) There is currently no ‘timeframe’ that I can give”
2) “Nothing is off the table”
3) “I have just received word that it is coming Soon™, real Soon™!”
This is the best you can hope fore, assuming a company rep will even answer in first place, and it’s lawyer for NO.

It’s much simpler for me. Some time during the 2013 AN said they’re gonna make a scavenger hunt for precursor. Since then i sorta waited. Closer to the end of 2013 they said it’s probably won’t make it this year, i naturally assumed that then it’s prolly coming some time ~early in 2014. But it didn’t and there were no news about it. Anyway. Some time during second half of 2014 i decided to finally go for it, precursor was double the price of 2013 at this point etc. Then all that crap about AN not communicating happened, shortly after the China release.
Only thing i have to say about this is. Whats’s wrong with telling your plans to community and then if something’s not coming and not working, to just come forward and say, look, it’s not coming in near future, there’re multiple complications, we can’t make it for now, it will be done some time later etc. and etc. or not done at all for whatever reason. Instead they treat community with silence and ignoring it completely (the issue i described here is just a single case, there were multiple, there’s a pattern), then they say it’s the company policy to not say anything at all ever. Because community is so bad. Community gets all angry when you don’t do things you said you will. How much more hypocrite things can get really.

Yeah, they refuse to say anything at all about the issue… not a single comment to say “we’re still working on it but it’s been delayed because…”

there’s no point worrying/wondering. they won’t get anymore specific than “we’re working on it, and will let you know our plans when things become closer to implementation”.
they won’t ever give you a specific “we’re going to do it” or “we scrapped it”.
best to assume it isn’t going to happen. if it ever does….yippy. :/

Yeah, some Wanze was fortunate enough to get his answer, sometime, somewhere. Who knows where, who knows when. I assume that was about first future pack. Precursor scavenger hunt was announced in official blog post. I hope there’s no need to elaborate further.

Publicly announced, March 2014. I saw the announcement too. Just because you didn’t see it doesn’t meant that they aren’t communicating. Or do you expect the devs to show up at your house, log onto the website, and read the announcement out loud to you?

Policy is set by management above the employees who interact on the forums. When your boss tells you not to talk about that, you don’t talk about that. If you do, then you get fired and your replacement doesn’t talk about that.
The devs don’t take orders from forum posters.

exactly. i don’t disagree with that at all………just spelling it out to those who still think they will get a specific and concrete answer.

What’s good in communication if it fails to do exactly this, to communicate. What if person doesn’t even read forums. Do i have to manually keep track of every red post at all times. Regardless, i’am glad i was wrong about this one, even in retrospective.
