I emailed about this a while back. Can see still broken. Arenanet patches so many things, so why can’t they move this trait to a freaking event that actually works if fixing this event is going to take 10 years???

To me, the fact that traits are tied to buggy content is the worst offense and should have been the first thing they concentrated on, either by fixing it or just changing the trait unlock to something else. That right there tells you how much they care about a quality product and it makes me sad.

The priorities and decisions made by the higher-ups are pushing me more and more to quitting the game so I don’t have to feel guilty for supporting bad behavior. Since I have zero faith they care about our concerns in any meaningful way, the only way I can express my displeasure in a way they will care about is through my wallet. They haven’t gotten any money from me in a good while and won’t for the foreseeable future.

Same here, I’m afraid. I had started to log back in and even purchased gems after they made the personal story replayable, but I’m now back to what is sadly becoming my default stance of not logging in or making purchases of any kind. HoT is also looking like an unlikely purchase at this point, but I suppose that depends on ANet.

I simply refuse to reward corporate behavior like this. It’s not even poor communication they are demonstrating here, it is blatant refusal to communicate at all. This kind of thing sucks all the joy out of playing a game for me. I can’t enjoy a game when I know that the company behind it thinks so little of its players.

Yeah. I stopped buying gems last year because of traits. Then the HoT announcement and the “we’re fixing traits, I’m not looking at you for news Q2” came, so I started again. Now the SAB mini middle finger over April 1st has put me back to not buying gems again.

Basically for all the effort they put into developing Living Story and HoT, they throw it away because they won’t spend twenty minutes on the forum treating their customers like… well, customers rather than naughty children.

I’m not even logging in to get my daily rewards. Your two-month-old assurances that changes are incoming are stale. This two-month-old thread is appalling. I’m just not interested in empty promises anymore. And I’m really not interested in anymore “this is a big ship; it takes time to steer it” excuses. You’ve had ample time to do something, and you haven’t. So… just… yeah. Whatever.

While I appreciate the challenges Anet faces, I believe that the Mike O’Brien Gag Order is arguably one of the worst game developer executive decisions I’ve ever seen. I believe it’s much worse for PR than the backlash from posters crying, “But you promised!” when something ANet discussed does not happen. They’ve changed corporate behavior because of reactions that consist essentially of juvenile entitlement. As a result, all of the fans — including the adults who understand that things change — are treated like mushrooms.

I’m also not hopeful for the trait changes at this point, nor for HoT. Why? ANet is not doing anything to keep me interested.

I hit my 13000 AP chest last night so I’m not really feeling a reason to log in right now. I wish there was, but I’ve not been able to have fun with the game anymore. I can’t even find “joy” in key farming to pass the time anymore.

I’d hoped there would have been some more conversion on Anet’s side of this after the new thread was made, but no…

As a customer I do not feel valued or respected. Sadly its not just the trait issue either, although this has been a HUGE part of it. Maybe it really is different with MMOs, and you don’t have to try to retain customers because there will always been a steady stream of new money/players.

I wish there was something more we could do, but at the end of the day there isn’t. It was fun, but now, not so much.

I’ll look out for a news post every now and then, but i’m not hopeful in the slightest.

But no! My will power endured and after a few weeks of zero game time… it became much easier. I am not hyped about HoT, I have no Desire to log in anymore, and my Curiosity is the only thing that keeps me checking these forums. (particularly This Thread)

This company does not care about its customers and it shows. There is no use talking to a company like this using logical arguments. The only language they understand is money. So how’s that Code of Silence working for you, Anet?

yeah I think im gonna have to give up on GW2 since Anet doesnt seem to give a kitten about removing the horrible “improvements” no one asked for in the first place.

“improvements” and a total lack of communications over the course of a WHOLE YEAR

traits unlock and town clothes were FINE as they were,

now traits are a horrible grind and town clothes are useless and cant be dyed.

toon specific guild repping is an absurd design , but it doest matter , guild chat is broken beyond recognition.

SAB aint coming back. Necromancer minions still useless. Low tier WvW is basically PvE since all you ever fight is a bunch of npcs.

ever since April 2014 :

friend : dude you still playing GW2 ?
me : yeah
friend : I’m thinking about getting the game, what character should I make first ?
me : listen to me very carefully, dont buy the game in its current state.

WoW what changed suddenly? What did I miss? Did someone say they would fix something again – like they did with hobosacks and it never came to pass?

What was it specifically because I just have to know?

I genuinely would like to know because it seems by some of the posts I missed last time around of reading through the most recent posts that something has changed? o.0

I’m not through with Gw2 yet, but I have to admit I’d understand if people have had enough. The modified trait system really marks a milestone of which I’ve been disagreeing with a lot of the game’s direction since then. By itself it wouldn’t be so bad, but then you have really shady stuff like that gem fiasco that make me pretty much expect rock bottom at this point. While in the past I probably would have pushed for this game to new players, I wouldn’t anymore in its current state.

As for now, I’ll be mostly just doing server Teq runs and wvw on weekends until the expansion comes out, though I am not really sure if it would help matters since maybe the game is just moving in a direction that just happens to not have me in it. I’m glad to have found a decent guild as well as community, because without it I would have quit the game a long time ago.

Nothing has changed. At ALL. Therein lies the problem. Seven months ago, we were assured that they were looking into quick fixes. Two months ago, we were assured that we’d be getting details on a complete overhaul. In less than ten days, it will be a full year since the implementation of this system and all we have are the same assurances we’ve had from the beginning. It is unacceptable. I guess I’ve just hit that wall, personally.

Very much where I’m at. I check back here, this thread, out of morbid curiosity. I used to love this game and wish I could again. Since that April patch, a year ago, I returned sporadically. Every so often I’d log in as I missed the fun I had previously.

There was a time when I would have been excited to learn of Specializations, but the way things have been going I feel pretty sure it will be another system design which I dislike, like the traits system has become.

As of a couple months ago I really just lost the desire to log in at all. The traits were the killer for me, but the continuing direction of the game since then further diminished my interest. I just see little future fun in the game for me as it is.

Sadly, I am just wondering how awful the “new new” trait system will be and check back to see if they exceed even my low expectations. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised, but honestly I doubt it. I really do miss how things were.

I have a character I started after the traits change a year ago. She’s now 78 and I decided to look at her traits to see what was available for me to use. As I’ve been leveling, I’ve basically just been putting my trait points into whatever I had available and haven’t focused on a specific build. The only active effort I’ve put into hunting traits is to complete Gendarran Fields as I know there is a map complete traits for that as well as a few on that map.

I have a total of 8 traits, 1 adept trait in each line except for skirmishing, which has 4 adept traits. I haven’t earned enough skill points yet to fully unlock all my skills yet, let alone spend for trait unlocks. Skills are sexier.

I’m sure that I’m not playing this optimally. I should have rationed my skill points to take skills that I know I will use, and I should have actively sought out trait unlocks all around the map. That’s not how I like to play, though. If I start a map, I like to complete it before moving on rather than hopping from here to there and leaving only partial trails of explored areas. I’d like it if I didn’t feel like I had to explore Gendarran Fields every single time I level a new character just because that gives me a trait. How boring.

We’re coming up on a year of this change and I dislike even more as I live with it and am forced to work within this framework. I refuse to buy the traits I need on principle because there are too many. If it were just a few here and there and I really didn’t feel like killing the giant grub, I might, but as it is, no. This character will probably see light play, maybe park it at a JP or farming area, explore maps a little, but it won’t see as much play time as the toons I have that are fully traited.

There are new players who don’t even know what a mess this system is and think this is normal and acceptable. I don’t accept it and won’t stop voicing my displeasure until we see changes, or at least hear about their future plans. This game is so fantastic in a lot of ways, but the magic is gone and things that I was willing to overlook before are now just reminders of how disappointed I am becoming. Honestly, I think the main reason I still log in is because there is no other game grabbing my attention right now.

Their metrics are setup so that if you are logging in everyday things look good for them. That’s why they changed daily rewards to login rewards. So even if you are not spending money you are giving them what they want if you are logging in regularly.

I know that, but I’m not ready to give up on the game quite yet. I think that if they don’t release SAB in the next few weeks that will be my breaking point. To put the minis in the store for the 2 year anniversary and not intend to follow up on it is beyond trolling and proof that they couldn’t care less about the community.

I have been considering just putting it down. Maybe It’s time to try Rift again. I wish there was a good MMO out there that I liked. Maybe Wildstar has fixed some things and is worth checking out again?

It seems to me that they cut the GW2 budget because they thought that they could get by with the bare minimum with the LS. Running on a skeleton crew to milk the last few pennies they can with out really investing in the game. I 100% expect HoT to be equal to a $10 DLC in other games. I do not see the trait system ever being fixed as they have had a year to make the current system bearable and they have done almost nothing. In fact they have done nothing to better the system in the last 10 months. Which shows a complete lack of care to fix the current system and/or they lack the ability to do so. Which is pitiful. They could have actually tried to fix broken events or move the unlocks to other events, which they did on a couple of things. Which got peoples hopes up that anet actually intended to support this BS change and make it work but then they stopped. Since that was obviously to difficult for them to continue doing they could have easily lowered the gold and/or skill point cost of traits to ease the burden but did not.

I would really like to spend time in this thread discussing the up coming trait changes but the lack of support on the current system and the lack of communication on the upcoming changes leaves nothing to discuss except how inept anet have become at maintaining an MMO.

Lobo: Yeah, that pretty much sums it up for me as well.

Anet had their chance to properly engage with us, and instead kept silent. That silence has been heard loud and clear by many here. What’s sad is i saw another post in this thread about a page or so back that sounded like me somewhere halfway through the last thread. I hope that person can stay that hopeful and maybe have a chance to enjoy the game again.

I’m beyond that point now i think, and that makes me sad honestly.

I seriously believe that anet is underestimating the effect this trait system has.
I didn’t want to create a new character (besides thieves as I know what traits I want with thieves) before they changed the system for the better but have been “forced” by a friend to create my last missing profession.
Alright, so I got a cookie cutter build and only wanted to get the traits required for that. After a bunch of people killed the mob I needed while I was still running from the pre event (after I waited for several hours for that event to pop up), I was about to delete said character – the only reason I didn’t delete her was that my server killed the giant grub with me earlier so I could have that trait (that means a lot to me).
So, while it can be fun to aquire the traits, I’ve now done this five times and I will never do any personal story quest again ever! Which is a pity as my main will never be the hero of Tyria.

I don’t know if they are necessarily underestimating it, so much as being SUPER hopeful that HoT will somehow magically negate it.

Many of us have been very clear in this thread and its older/larger brother of a thread of the various negative impacts not addressing this sooner has and will have on the game. Sadly, its such a “slow drip” problem that they are not going to really see people explode about it until they make their first “new” toon since last April. I honestly can’t wait to see the people making their Revs for the first time and being told to get traits in this way should Anet not address this and put a very workable fix in before they drop HoT.

In short, any fix at this point will need to be VERY spot on and mesh perfectly with their new system with as few bumps in the road for all of those scroll levelers, or these boards will flood.

The trait system is horrible. I hit 80 with my first non-grandfathered character, and I now have no desire to level any newly created character under this system. It’s not fun at all. I’m a person who would happily buy character slots and level characters over and over, but not with this system. I have no plans to buy HoT or level a revenant without a good fix to the trait system, the personal story, and the equally bad NPE.

like i said, i sincerely doubt they want the current system in place for hot, which will have players making new charachters.

The real problem is while a new trait system is almost assured, it seems unlikely that it will actually be a good system.
best case scenario, its relatively painless. But that doesnt mean its actually good, or improves the leveling/progression experience
the first system was fairly uninspired, but it was also fairly painless.

I think my major issue is that paired with the leveling nonsense, even a relatively painless trait system isn’t going to cut it for me. And if they don’t ease up on some of the level gates overall (especially for traits, but also for skills), it’s absolutely not worth making a new character, let alone continuing to play.

As a temporary solution, lowering the cost of unlocks would’ve been nice a year ago, but it would barely even make a dent in the overall problems with the system at this point.

4 days until an entire year has gone by. I hope someone at ANET is embarrassed.

I’m scared of the way they will “fix” things, considering the way the “fixed” the personal story into a jacked up mess and “fixed” the previous trait system and leveling experience.

Well, they are fixing the personal story, again and returning it to its proper order, as well as giving characters new dialogue, Better Dialogue(Traehearne is getting an update!) And they are making the final instance soloable! so there may be hope yet.

I’ll believe it’s an improvement when it’s in game and available for commentary. Until then, we’ve just got more assurances.

True enough, but they did state a time and that time is almost here. If it passes then i will probably be joining those who are angry at ANET.

Actually that time has technically passed.

She said that she wasn’t looking at Q2, which implied Q1 would see the change. Q1 has passed. When asked for clarification leading up to the end of Q1 there was only more silence.

Sorry for the lack of clarity- that bit was about the fact that there’s hope because there are changes for the personal story incoming. That date hasn’t passed, but I’m still not hopeful.

Ah, okie, yeah the PS changes/fixes. This is one of those things that I would have been way more excited for had all of the other things not been so mishandled. :/

I haven’t been in game for a while now. At least a week I think.

Actions speak louder than words. If HoT doesn’t kick kitten with fixing broken stuff since beta, and all of the stuff they are saying with awesome and fun fixes, then they are in for some hurt.

We’ll see is my mantra. Eso b2p till then, and maybe well beyond!

I’m about to do the same but the last straw was when they changed something with the controls, so now I can’t mouse turn like I used to and my wrist starts to hurt because of that – so now this game hurts me physically.
But the traits and bugs and lags and silence are a big factor in this too.

Interestingly I never asked for anything new – I was fine with this game as it has been -I don’t need an expansion or anything, just a game that works properly, is fair and intelligent (trait aquisition isn’t).

I haven’t logged on for about 10-12 days, now. There are many reasons why, but SAB and the trait birthday are prominent. It’s allowing me to get caught up on my single-player games, but I’m really disappointed that we’re about to hit 1 year, and there’s still no news about what this “big change” is going to be. I’m just not feeling the slightest inclination to log in right now, not even for the Stronghold beta.

Been over 2 weeks now since I logged in. Went back to the 2 MMOs I was casually playing while I waited for GW2 to release. Main reason is the Traits revamp and NPE is a close second. These are 2 things never asked for and they are driving former and potential new players away from the game.

We are 2 days from the 1 year anniversary of the “Traits revamp” and still no information on how they are going to “fix” Traits this time. This may just keep me away for good, even with HoT on the horizon.

Yep, found a new (old) game I can chill with. It’s not as good as GW can be in some areas, but it’s very polished and I know what I am getting with it. Will check to see if there is any development on some of the main issues, but unless something changes, I’m done.

GW free for 5 days and counting.

Hard to believe Anet let this disaster remain in place for so long.

Exactly my thoughts. After the overwhelmingly negative feedback on the current trait system, it’s still in place and for almost an year.
It seems that the devs are very arrogant and do not care what the player base think. Very sad.

I think it boils down to money. See, anyone who had created a character before April 15, 2014 would only have to unlock the 5 new grandmaster traits. All of the other traits would be unlocked on that character. Any character created after the patch would have to do all 65 tasks or pay 43g and 360 skillpoints for what previously cost less than 3g. But, given that the game was nearly 2 years old, most veterans were done with creating a lot of new characters, so there wasn’t a massive outcry all at once. It didn’t impact most people playing the game.

With the announcement of the expansion and a new profession, though, this system will be front and center, and thus subject to more scrutiny. Therefore, they’ve announced that it will be changed, probably to convince people that they’re really listening this time, so please buy the expansion! Money.

I would buy the expansion, no problem. But before I do so, I want to see a blog post or something that explains the new system. I don’t want leveling a character to be pure frustration as it is now

Yup, been playing some other games and have even gotten some time in on some game time with friends. In general though I can’t bring myself to log into GW2 anymore until something is done regarding the traits. No more talking about it, or talking about something coming on the horizon. Actual implementation of the fixed system. Even then though, I’m not sure I’d necessarily come back into the game at this point.

Its kind of sad to me that for a game that has SO many things I genuinely love about it, from the lore to the actual gameplay and art could have one issue so thoroughly mishandled with others that seemed to scream out a disdain for players that I can’t see myself playing it even once the issue I most have a problem with is addressed.

I used to put so many hours in GW2 every night and even more on the weekends. This is what an under valued players looks and sounds like, and I don’t think I’m the only one. Nor will I be the last if things at Anet stay the same. So fine, traits will be reworked. Someday. Great. I really do hope the new system is snazzy and I do hope it makes leveling alts fun again for all of those new players. More importantly though, I hope Anet learns to start listening to those players more about communication. Its important.

Yes, the arrogance is very strong with anet. Someone at anet could have rolled back the system but does not want to admit that the old system was fine the way it was. So they will change it again to something else we never asked for, rather than just roll back to a system that was fine the way it was at launch. Someone at anet has a new vision for what they want GW2 to be and so they will change everything until the heart of the game is a completely different game. The only things unchanged will be superficial, the pretty graphics, the DEs, the LS, and the faster paced combat. But their obvious goal is to turn GW2 into a different game.

I just don’t understand why. GW2 was a very strong game at launch and for the first year. Why would you want to risk changing something that makes money. The arrogance just blows my mind.

I like how they(A-Net) are distracting everyone from the 1yr anniversary of this utter debacle. They open up Beta testing for the new PvP mode.
