Seriously? I am FORCED to transfer servers if I want to play with my friend because the server I play on is literally full 24 hours a day, even at 4:00 in the morning on a week night. Why oh why is there no que system or something?

It’s absolutely ridiculous that you can’t enter or transfer to a server unless it’s not full.

Just throwing this out there: if your server is full and his isn’t, you can form a group and then right click his portrait and hit “Join in ____”

Guesting is the ability to pop on over to another server full time. The ability to hop into someone else’s server that you’re grouped with already has been in.

Has this not been working for people reliably? I run dungeons with friends on other servers frequently.

If you have already made up your mind to NOT play the game anymore what is it that you plan to gain from this thread?

The transfer system works fine for me as I play with people in my guild on my world as it is suppose to be. Because you personally want to hop servers frequently does not make it a flaw in the game design. It makes it a flaw in your play style.

Just go join your friends on a less full server, if your friends are not willing to wait until the server presents itself as less than full (happens occasionally) then you have to choose between transfering off your server to play with them or just not playing with them (although you can do dungeons with them no matter how spread you are across servers, and sometimes explore with them in overflow servers).

ArenaNet can’t win with this community lol. People are complaining about dead/empty servers while others are complaining that their servers are too full to get new people in. lol.

My homeworld is Blackgate.
I am a GW2 player in New Zealand.
Check me out on the GW2 wiki.

It is full but it didn’t work for me even when it wasn’t though. Like you said, you run -dungeons- frequently with friends. I don’t want to only run dungeons with them.

You obviously entirely missed the point of my post. I’m saying that it’ll be so long before server guesting is actually implemented that I likely won’t even be playing anymore, nor will anybody I know. There’s “apparently” going to be server guesting, but they also said that they would introduce that immediately after they stopped allowing free transfers. Which was supposed to be a week after launch. It’s now December, ladies and gentlemen, and that was back in August.

Also where did you pick up that I want to hop servers frequently? I made my point simple: I want to be able to play with all my friends, on the same server, which currently is impossible due to the system being flawed. I can’t play with my friends currently buying the game. It’s impossible. They have to roll a different server, and the only way I can play in game with them is if I personally transfer over to their server as well, leaving everyone I know on my current server. So in turn, if I go to that server, I won’t be able to play with my friends on my current server, which breaks up my social experience dramatically.

This is not an issue with any other MMO due to queuing systems. This should not be an issue with this game, there is no exception to that.

We have both been checking for almost two weeks, every single day, every single night. The server never drops down from Full. You’re telling me my friends have to wait WEEKS to play a $60 game with their friends? Sure I can transfer off, but I shouldn’t have to. This shouldn’t be an issue whatsoever.

@kildorn Dungeons are server independent, so cross server groups work fine for those, but the Join feature only works on Overflow servers. Guesting is not going to another server full time, that’s a server transfer, Guesting is being able to party with a friend and use the Join feature to join them on their server temporarily. It’s a promised feature and why so many people didn’t bother making sure we were on the same server as our friends, we were told it wouldn’t matter, so we shouldn’t have to transfer servers to play with our friends.

They seriously should not have limited server transfers to once a week until Guesting was up and running (I don’t care that some people were abusing it), I have friends who are starting to drift away from the game because they can’t play with friends, and no one wants to permanently transfer servers because we’re all invested in guilds on our respective servers. And to be stuck on another server, and potentially lose our spot on our home server to play with a friend for a few hours makes it worse.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that you can’t enter or transfer to a server unless it’s not full.

Post launch it took me about 10+ days to get transfered to server my guild set up on because I had an issue downloading the client that took me a couple days to solve. Ultimately I was able to transfer by signing in and going to the server selection list IMMEDIATELY after a patch. It’s a complete guess on my part of course (because I don’t know how I could possibly verify it as fact without direct comment from an A-Net Rep.) but it’s my belief that if they are going to change the server cap it will be when they institute a patch. Several other members who had to roll on another server first and then transfer found this true as well.

Obviously we’re 3 months post launch so I don’t know how helpful this advice may be now (if it’s even in any way accurate) but if I were you I’d be racing to get in and attempt to transfer as quickly after a new patch is rolled out as I could. Sorry I don’t have any advice more helpful than that but it’s the tactic that worked for me and other guild members in the same situation. Won’t hurt anything to give it a shot at least.

Best of luck with it in any case friend.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that you can’t enter or transfer to a server unless it’s not full.

The server status does not show the actual number of people on it at that moment, at a guess the status is down to how many people have logged in over a designated time span, which is why it shows “full” at 4am.

It is also a perfectly sensible thing to do they, cannot allow an infinite number of people transfer to a server, there has to be some limit, people do not want to spend all their time in overflow.

Just all transfer to a non-full server, really how did you people cope in other MMOs?

I was under the impression that “Full” was in reference to how many players that server was the home server for. So that, hypothetically, if everyone who used that server as their home world were to be logged in at the same time, the server could physically handle that level of traffic. I figured that to be why some servers show their status as “Full” 24/7 and that their status seemed to only change immediately after some patches because they tech guys had reasoned they could safely raise the cap. If that is in fact the case though, 3+ months in now, I wouldn’t expect them to raise those caps again anytime soon because they’ve probably pretty well identified just exactly how much traffic each server can tolerate by this point. This may become a problem in the future though as some people who did play but have since quit still have their characters occupying a space on those “Full” servers. Again, this is all 100% guess work though.

I’m by no means insuating that to be a “fact” though. It’s just my logical best guess at what exactly “Full” means relevant to each server’s status. Your guess is as good as mine though unless you know something I don’t.
