i want to bump this because it’s still highly relevant and nothing has been done about it.

The fact that the temples have to fall to get anything done is just all around bad design.

Whatever can be gainedfrom those temples should be handed out for defending the temple, not attacking them.

I forget where this phrase is from but…On the Nose-y!

Attacking a temple: Gives you loot you may need for collections, xp, coin, karma and access to the vendor right away.

Defending: Gives you trash loot only, xp, coin, karma, and still access to a vendor….

So yes, anet needs to make defending event rewards = to capturing event rewards. Or, if anything, even make defending slightly harder and give better than attacking, and have more than one temple attacked simultaneously. Then the map has to work together to succeed and perhaps get an even better reward…

I would love to see this change, but look: a few of these items are not obtainable by “normal means” due to bugs that have persisted in the game since launch. (Yeah, there are tricks for working around these notorious obstacles—waiting for new build to get the Timberline Falls item, using lifesteal on the risen replicators in Straits of Devastation… but a collection shouldn’t be hard just because you have to find workarounds). New complaints about these bugs are posted on the forums weekly—perhaps daily. And each new patch completely ignores them.

Sam is only so expensive because you can almost never complete Ogre Wars. They know this is a problem, but they don’t do anything about it. They appear to be working on the expansion (and on fixing the NEW pervasive bugs, post-6/23). Maybe at the end of the day, they’re just slapping a big “PRODUCT SHIPS AS-IS” sticker on the old PvE content.

I guess what I’m saying is, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.

Edit: I’m aware that these issues occasionally get a fresh coat of paint—e.g., you can complete the Scholar Dobbs renown heart even though the event is totally broken (whereas before, you couldn’t). But clearly some sort of bug burden-shuffling is going on: they do a bipass so that some of the reported bug behavior stops, but whatever’s causing the behavior is still there. Months later, you get reports about a different bug in the same event, obstructing gameplay further down the pipeline.
