Two options for weapon skills?

I was wondering what the GW2 community thought about this idea. So we use weapons, each weapons has a static skill to use based on which number that skill is: 1 2 3 etc. Always the sames effect. I think there should be two options per numbered skill. For example: I play Condi ranger, shortbow, as my main. I feel it would enhance the game if I could have a swap option on that skill slot as utility skills do. Maybe I don’t want to focus bleeds as a condi ranger and focus poison, based on the poison trait. (This is a loose example). I feel it would be beneficial to have two option for my auto attack. Bleeds or poisons, still staying on condi side. Another example #5 Stun from behind or beside. The skill could slow from the front and immobilize or root from behind. My point is I think we should have two options per weapon skills just as utilities do. This itself would create build diversity even if you ran the same general traits.

Wow these are surely constructive comments.

He’s suggesting to have 10 skills on each weapon instead of 5 (which are set) and let the players decide which one of them they want to use.

Similar things have been suggested quite often, in gw1 you could even choose how many weapon-bound skills you want to have in your build.

However the answers have been always the same: Balance issues, too much effort, resources and so on.

Yeah I completely agree this idea would take tons of manpower, I also agree that if done right would give the player base a lot of freedom and come a little closer to the GW1 style of builds. This is an idea I would like to see at least voted on with the GW community. I believe more people than expected would be on board. Lots of work and balance but I think the outcome would be more than worth it.

To be fair, it’d be a nice addition rather than having Anet come up with a completely different Weapon Type to add to the game with the next expansion. If i could use my Shield on my Warrior more aggressively, stunning with it and knocking people prone; i’d be happy! Or if i could use a Hammer more aggressively. :s

I agree. Seems like a lot of work. I think it would be less work to enhance the current weapons rather than introducing new weapons, changing previous classes to work with the new skills. Maybe instead of scepter #1 on mes you could swap to the other version of the skill and hit the target with a 300 area of effect with a chance to 5% chance to deal +50% damage to an area of 800 radius. So you get a chance every few hits to get a decently sized aoe. Power and condi builds would be used on every weapon.

I like this suggestion. As Tekey says it may be hard to balance, effort and recourse… But it is not for us to decide, I support this suggestion.

I also agree there should be options for weapon skills and also evolutions for weapon skills.

For example take one weapon skill – there could be two or three branching evolutions with different effects giving more choice and refinement.
