Login Rewards were introduced December 16th. Notice anything about this? (Graph) (Select “All”)

Doesn’t take much deduction to figure out what the problem is…

Exactly, the problem was that people were getting too many coins prior to login rewards and now the market is adjusting. So problem solved.

No one’s flipping mystic coins, even when there was a 11s difference between buy/sell it was a loss. And that was about the largest gap there’s been for 3 months except for 2 or 3 days. No one’s flipping coins. Someone might be buying coins using them realizing the don’t need that many after making clovers or something then relisting leftovers but they’re still losing money.

Flipping doesn’t have to be immediate. There were undoubtably people who realized that prices would rise, way back when the daily rewards were changed (I saw some posts on the forums about it) and bought large numbers when they were cheap to sell later when prices went up.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Cmon anet.
Doesnt matter if people hoarding or flipping(abusing) the market anymore.
Can you super buff mystic coin and leather already?, cured leather section is 99.5s per piece, mystic coin is 97,7s per piece.
ITS INSANE, just super buff them, it was better when u just deleted them cause it was less than merchant value on tp, this kitten aint viable. mystic coin isnt even farmable in any real way you HAVE TO buy them if you need them, theres no chance in hell that you can farm +250 coins by yourself in a “acceptable” amount of time. and leather is just off the chart, fix it. dont just screw the conomy and say we are letting it take its course after we kittened the course up. it aint fair.

Mystic coins are only needed for skins. Stop pretending those are essential to players.

Leather scarce, on the other hand, is an actual problem.

Essential? Not really. But the majority of this game’s “endgame” is focused on cosmetics, AKA skins. Don’t pretend like they aren’t important just because you don’t care for them. Might I remind you that Mystic Coins are used for 90 non legendary skins, for armor boxes, for feasts of food recipes and for a few other recipes as well. Its not like they are some incredibly niche item in recipes, they are used all over the place, and in large quantities

Slowly unloading my mystic coins — don’t want to be kittened when the bubble pops.

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

I don’t see a bubble. Would you explain why you think it is a bubble?

Imho, the rising price is the market responding rationally. Mystic Coins are generated at a steady rate with little elasticity. Persistent players generate the bulk of supply and persistent players are the most likely players to find value in Mystic Coins.

I “mined” as an experiment Hardened Leather Sections for an hour or so on the TP and the end price was only 4 1/2s each from the TP. Pretty big savings.

In the case of the leather, at least, this is an issue that is easy enough to fix.
Lower the demand (in recipes), up the supply (in drops), or both.

By sabotaging supply and demand, Arenanet leaves you two choices.
One way is by devoting yourself to a mindless grind to get the gold to buy it.
The other way is by converting real money into in game gold.
And I’m guessing that’s exactly the reason why Arenanet hasn’t done a thing about it in the past months.

On the other hand, it’s kind of unfair for us to say that about hardened leather, because there’s not a good way to farm hardened leather. So we also want to give this early warning that we’ll introduce a way to farm leather in a future release.

At least ANet understands this as being true, despite so many people who seem to be in denial over this fact here on the forums. Farming gold and buying leather != farming leather, and it never will.

Wow. That is good to hear, but for the love of Tyria I wish MO would stop with the hoarding talk. How players decide to manage their items is up to them and using the term hoarding implies players have a responsibility to participate in the marketplace.
