Updates are separating the community
They tried this with Scarlet’s invasions, people didn’t really end up doing them…
I don’t understand what the problem is with how they now have it. It’s only champions in starting maps the have been removed, which makes perfect sense – they shouldn’t really have been there in the first place. Everywhere else still has champions, nothing has changed.
Your first idea is exactly what world bosses are now. If you look up the schedule, you can follow the world boss train around for a sense of community.

That is not community. Before you argue it, know that I run one almost every night with my guild. We even include champs that aren’t on timer, like Fire Shaman, into the mix. I would call it a farming event – but not a “sense of community”. I suppose we just have different definitions on what community means.
To respond to the OP.
I share some of your viewpoints. The idea of 1 Chest per Champion/per day I’ve posted on two other threads and was completely ignored. I think it just got drowned out by all the people QQing over Queensdale. If you really stop to think about how many champions are out there in Tyria today, many of which sit safely ignored, it would be amazing if we could make it to where people actively hunt them down on a more regular basis. Though I would say that champ loot would need a small buff for this to be a good enough idea.
However I disagree with any system that announces champions to the “world”. The Great Boss Timer Schedule is already a megazerg festival, one which is sucking the life out of me at times. If you want to be out there killing champions, then get off your kitten and go hunt down champions.
My two cents.
The problem with champions are a similar problem with the low level world bosses, they’re simple, basic and extremely easy especially with a horde of players. Most champs and world bosses do nothing special and are essentially punching bags with loot drops. I think there is something Anet could do but I just don’t think they will unfortunately.
I think Anet should add in some sort of Arena, be it instanced or open world similar to the Queen’s gauntlet thing. It could be an event that requires 5 people in a party to activate and the event would start with 1 champ and as champs are killed it could start spawning 2 and more champs at a time, similar to the tier increasing during the battle.
This could continue until all 5 people are dead because once more and more champs spawned everyone would die eventually, it’d only be a matter of time. The trick to this would be the rewards could be tiered so if a group could perform well then they could essentially get even better rewards than from a boss like Tequatl. People might cry and complain that it’s too hard, not good for the casual etc but really Anet needs to cater to people that are on regularly also and not just to the overall broadest player base.
The way this could work also would be it requires a ticket from whatever events Anet would think should be done to obtain said ticket and the ticket would be only obtainable once per day thus restricting loot gain from this to once per day to prevent farming, spamming and excess rage.
By limiting this to once per day it could be set up like the queen’s gauntlet where everyone else can watch whoever is in the arena fighting which could be fun sometimes to see how well others do. So there’s your sense of community while providing people with fun, loot, rewards for time spent and a challenge.
Sure people could fight in it more than once per day but only get the loot once per day so if anyone fought more than once per day it would likely be to help others or just for fun. Champ trains and such will always be farmed endlessly but this type of arena idea could appeal to the most people. I think it’d also be fun to get to fight til death literally and not have an actual end otherwise.

It’s exactly the same level of community that was previously present in the Queensdale champ train, except everyone knows exactly when each boss spawns and none of them overlap.

Don’t forget WP costs. But even worse, waypointing between maps is a REAL big hassle these days. You’d need to buff champ loot dramatically.
Plus, if you make champs lootable only once a day, people won’t repeat them… so depending on when you play, you might not be able to find anyone to run the circuit.
Sind’s when killing mobs in a mmo is exploiting?
Sind’s when killing a mob over and over is exploiting? Killing something over and over is grinding/farming for loot .

The problem wasn’t that it was exploiting – because it wasn’t – the problem was that it was sort of a toxic part of the community that was being exposed to new players – most of whom choose to play as Humans. A new players experience shouldn’t be seeing hundreds of players run around in circles yelling at them for killing an enemy too soon.

That’s a joke, right? QD champ train was your poster child for GW2 community?

I have no trouble with waypoint costs. None. Back at launch it was a drain but these days its pocket change.
Also “people won’t repeat them” and “you might not be able to find anyone to run the circuit” was the point I was trying to make. No train. No repetition. No zerg. Just people out on all the maps killing champions if they so chose to do so. Would even see people doing long lost event chains just to get rarer champs to spawn.
Agree with champ loot needing a buff again, for this idea to work, but it need not be a “dramatic” increase.

No. That was my point. The original post in this thread touts Queensdale as the epitome of what community was, and the ideas were looking for ways to replace that sense of community. So when you said that the world boss zerg didn’t provide any sense of community, I was pointing out that neither did Queensdale.
