I converted 70g to gems and bought the infinite salvage kit last night. Have used it already. Great stuff. Thanks for the suggestions.

In my opinion everything that is part of the game should be in the game, not in some cash-shop. So when you get gems anyway I would only spend them on things that should not be in the game itself. Character slots or a name changer for example. I guess bank tabs are sort of oke. But it really depends on how you look towards it.

Anyway, that sort of things are really additions to the game and you don’t support taking elements that should be in the game out of the game and into the cash-shop.

Don’t call it a cash shop. You can get EVERYTHING in the gem store without spending a dime in real life.

And because of that it’s not a cash-shop? I many games with a cash-shop you can get the items also ingame. It just takes much longer or is very boring to get.. Just like in GW2 where to get it you need to grind a lot of gold. And then there are the temporary available items that you can only get at that moment so you also need to the gold at that moment.

But most important.. It;s very much an element outside of the game. It are mainly items you can not find in the game-world and items you can buy with cash. So it’s very much a cash-shop.

Anyway, all I suggested was to take also into account what the effect is of a purchase. If you don’t mind them taking elements out the game and putting them in a cash-shop then go ahead and buy your mini (for example). But I you prefer mini’s to be content of the game. Stuff you play for directly in the game then don’t buy mini’s with real money. It’s just something you should think about when spending money. He asked what to look for, I gave this as a tip.

The unlimited salvage tool.

You can thank me later.

OMG that and the gathering tools for me were the best purchases I ever made. Tho they could be updated to be bind on account rather than bind on character.

The salvaging tool and the gathering tools ARE account Bound. I regularly switch them between alts. These by far are the best things I’ve gotten from the gem store.

Bank tabs. Character slots – so you have one of each profession. Unlimited tools. increase mats space. – Quaggan hats/backs.-
But I would save them and buy each of those when its on sale- or a particular new fantastic quaggan oriented gear comes out- if so buy right away. you can’t go wrong with quaggan.

Don’t listen to most of the guys here…
Unlimited gathering tools are a complete waste of gems! You can easily survive holding 2 sickles, axes, picks in an invisible bag along with food, extra weaponry. Add another bag which you can fill with 8-10 crude kits and you’ll never run out of gathering materials, as it’ll take hours of farming to deplete all crude kits, and the unlimited salvager people suggest requires 1 copper a salvage, which means crudes only take twice the coin, consider you need 80 gold just to get the gems of the unlimited kit, means you need to salvage 800000 items for a break even point. You’ll never salvage that many items.

Bag slots are also a waste, getting 15 slot bags isn’t that expensive if you got a leatherworker (or a friend with it) as leather cheap is as hell. 4 15 slot bags plus starter bag is all you need to survive, especially if you hold 10 crude kits to empty your bags of greens and blues. Yellows and exotics can be sold or salvaged with mystic kits. Don’t buy the stones to make these kits, you’ll be getting stones every 500 AP (which comes rapidly early on).

For example my bags are based like this on all my chars:
3 15 slot bags, 1 invisible 15 slot bag.
In the invisible bag i spend 2 slots for crude kits, 6 for 2 sickle/axe/pick, 2-3 for backup weaponry, 1 for maintenance boost, 1 for food, 1 for a minipet, 1 for mystic salvage kit.
The last standard 15 slot bag contains 8 extra crude kits. Which leaves you 20+15+15+7 (57) slots for other things. Can’t believe you’ll be in trouble for bag space using this as you hold 150 salvage uses for greens/blues/whites and 250 for rare/exotic. All the use trash stacks in piles.

So what should you spend gems on:

1 bank expansion slot, even if you don’t gather stuff you’ll find the start space too cramped. if you’re a hamster 1 ain’t enough.

3 character slots, unless you don’t like altaholicism, although this game doesn’t penalize alts, as nearly everything is account bound.

Those 2 are the only true “necessaries”. After that the only valuable thing are skins for armor or outfits for armor/costume brawl.

@Grump.7069:The unlimited salvager is true convenience. I’ve been where you’re at, stacking up on crudes before doing a few hours of WvW, a Fractal run (RNG’d with trash filled maps), champion trains and most of the zerg LS events. Even with 10+ crude kits I used them all pretty fast and the only way to clear the inventory then was to find a vendor for new ones, taking time from whatever I was doing. Trust me, an unlimited salvager paired with a mystic salvage kit for rares is the best equip you can invest in IMO, if you play any of the mentioned game modes.

Character slots I didn’t bother buying until I already had five lv80s.

I don’t understand all the support for the unlimited gathering tools when you can sell one or two drops and purchase another stack of tools from vendors very, very easily. On top of the fact that the tools bind to a character and not account.

Character slots, bank slots, and trasmutation crystals were what I looked at, before I had gold to convert.
