Just because someone has time(or not) doesn’t mean they love or hate the fractal dungeons.
I play content that’s enjoyable and easily accessible in the time that I have, and I’m mature enough not to get jealous or upset that other people have the time/luck/patience/money/friends to play other parts of the game that I won’t touch.
type Z here!
I only PvE, am level 80 but only have an exotic sword, rest of my gear is yellow or green .. and I dont really care if I get anything better soon. If I get something to drop thats better I wil use it, but I dont farm for things.
I’m not driven to max out my stats or pick the perfect traits or skills, or use the ultimate weapon Sigil combinations… I just want to have fun playing.
Only do dungeons for fun with guildies.. and we laugh more at how spectacularly each other dies than worry about the stats on that BP that dropped.
Really it’s the way I always played mmo’s .. I have played EQ for the last 12 years and had over 500 Days played on some of my Everquest characters and never had the best or top gear on any of them… not worth the fret.
I’m with Tanish, count me among the Group Z “laid back explorers”.
Exploration, DEs, occasional WvW. Love finding vistas, figuring ’em out can be frustrating but very rewarding.
The game world is awesome to explore, at times a real treat to just run through and appreciate the beauty of some areas.
I like tinkering with different builds/play styles and min-maxing, but also enjoy just running around bashing enemies to a pulp.
I enjoy occasional WvW. Haven’t touched sPvP, doubt I will; looks too much like arena-style PvP which doesn’t appeal to me.
Haven’t stepped foot in a dungeon yet. Was planning to eventually, but given the direction the devs are going lately I doubt I’ll ever bother starting down that path. Had more than enough of the grindy treadmill that is WoW, never going back to that sort of hamster-wheel play style again.
Once I get 100% World Completion will probably play through an alt or two before shelving the game and moving on. Originally planned on playing for much longer than that, but now I don’t think the game will continue to appeal to me beyond what I’m already doing. Still, at ~400hrs of fun I’ve already gotten far more than my money’s worth out of the game.
None of the possibilities.
I am almost pure PvE. Although I enjoy joining in events and helping others out.
Dungeons, Jumping Puzzles and all PvP is nothing for me.
7th category X:
I like both Pve and Pvp (althought i play a lot more WvW than Pve or sPvP) and have a lot of time to play (three 80s, one 60,…), but hate grind and hate the new instance with gear inflaction.
If they become necesary or have any impact in WvW i would left the game.
Other: I enjoy PvE the most and have a lot of time to play.
But i don’t love Fractals of the Mist (the one dungeon i tried aside from doing Arah story).
I generally hate GW2 dungeons, being put off by Arah story mode.
I find DE’s much more fun, main problem there is that it’s often hard to find a group.
So far we’ve uncovered these additional player types:
Player type G(or Z): The Laid-back Explorer: laid back when it comes to “perfect gear”, explores a lot, and enjoying a lot of content non-related to dungeons or WvW. This type of player is pretty happy with the game so far.
Player type H: PvE’ers who play a lot of PvE, but still don’t fancy the new dungeon.

I don’t do things for incentives (like special gear) – if it takes a second more to kill a mob: so be it. So that’s ’type G (or Z) for me.
Dungeons can be fun though – if one happen to get a good group.
Fail categories. Sorry. No real information can be gleaned from them.
Your method is a fallacy. You can’t assume that people for example have plenty of time, likes the new dungeon and is happy with the game.
I’m halfway A. I have plenty of time, I LOVE the new dungeon. I hate the reason i should do it, but I’m doing it because I like the dungeon itself. And I am not happy with the current state of the game.
Nice try to do some interesting footwork though
Your categories are far to distinct and exact. They aren’t encompassing enough.
You appear to be trying to establish: How much time people spend playing + What aspects of the game they enjoy vs. What they think of the new gear.
But your pigeon holing people into categories that don’t truly describe them.
Very much a false diagram. I love the new dungeon (just needs a better system to make parties at your tier). I like the new added map. I liked the event, though I would’ve liked it much better had it been properly tested. I hate the gear addition having higher stats because it
1) doesn’t serve the purpose of bridging a gap – I wasn’t aware of legendary rings and backpacks with superior stats
2) is utterly unnecessary, because at least GW veterans never needed a stats incentive to work hard for new gear
3) currently forces grind in one specific area
4) is a step back to the outdated MMO system of vertical progression
5) is a dangerous precedent, even if it’s currently minor, we can expect more pieces… perhaps more tiers >.<
6) by breaking one GW core idea, also sets a precedent for breaking others
7) seems ill-fitting with ANet, and thus, at least gives the feeling that someone else (likely the publisher) is pushing it… by the idea of “in case of doubt, copy wow” . Thus giving the feeling that once again, a publisher is ruining one of my favourite game series.
I play quite a bit, almost only PvE, but since I like to use alts, explore, and prefer to solo, this affects me as much as a casual player. I don’t mind being weaker in WvW, I’d lose anyway. I mind being forced to grind to have the top gear set. I mind that the very well worked out exotic set, may simply be rendered obsolete, for no apparent purpose. That goes against the core of GW.
I’m the type that doesn’t like to be arbitrarily categorized by others.
i dont think i am any of the types the OP offers…
i like making alt after alt and PVEing only to unlock all skills and weapons,
then dressing them up with specific armour and weapon skins.
not done any dungeon, pvp (if you dont count 1 keg brawl) or wvw, not interested.
call me Type M.
I’m the type that doesn’t like to be arbitrarily categorized by others.
Places you into Category: Y
I like open world pve that I can play at my own pace (ie: DE’s and exploring) and spvp where the playing field is equal anyway. I can’t find me on the chart.
Add me to the None of the Above. I also found your descriptions pretty condescending…not everyone playing this game worries about kitten like that. I could care less about most of this stuff beyond having a good time with family and friends.
Player type G (or Z) here. Laid back explorer. My highest is level 25 though. Maybe things will change once I get to 80.
Cheers.
None of the above. I fall into the category of the most common mmo player, the pve only player that’s not worried about gear every second that plays games for the people I meet, the lore, the open world events, the exploration, the secrets, the gathering. I do this for relaxation.
I don’t pvp I hate pvp, I don’t generally dungeon run unless it’s to see something i’ve not seen before, I don’t worry about gear unless I can’t even get the tier 6 by the common means one could get them like buying the runes or crafting a set. which is the case right now, one can’t get the exotic sets due to some serious problems with the loot system.

This. I have time to play, but I hate the new dungeon and Ascended gear. Why can’t I just have the game I bought? You know the one with no gear chase?
Can somebody explain something to me? How will this new gear affect WvW if you can gear up with any gear that you want for it? Did they state that this new gear will not be available at the WvW vendors?
I guess I’m sort of Zish but feel some of the others apply to me a bit as well.
I’m not obsessed with finding the “best” gear or with having the “best” build. I tend to have many alts and never a true “main” because I like to experience all the game has to offer. I don’t let the perceptions of other players determine how much fun I have.
I enjoy pretty much all PvE content. Overland PvE, DEs, vistas, exploring is all fun. I love dungeons, but I wish it was possible to solo or duo/trio them. I dislike the hassle of trying to find a full group. I dislike that when you do you often get people that want to rush to the end rather than enjoy the content.
I also enjoy WvW but feel like most people take it way too seriously. I enjoyed the days of DAoC where you could go PvE with the threat of PvP always looming over you, or hunting down others that were there to PvE. In GW2 there’s some PvE in the WvW but you’re shunned by your server if you’re not throwing yourself against the walls of a tower.
sPvP isn’t my bag of tea really. If I’m with a group of friends that enjoy it I’ll still have a great time doing it with them, but it’s definitely not my favorite thing to do.

Totally agree with this player. I’m very casual and don’t get much time to play. The time I do play is split between spvp and pve. I do not feel left behind, I have been enjoying the fractals dungeon, and look forward to eventually acquiring some ascended armor.
Edit: grammar

I’m with this player, I get about 10 hours Monday – Friday if I dedicate all of my time after work to the game. Obviously i have other obligations and relationships to support, so knock that 10 down to 2 hours. I still don’t feel like I’m being “left behind” in some imaginary race for gear.
I think the feeling of being “left behind” makes no sense. What exactly are you being left behind of? What are you competing for by getting ascended gear? Bragging rights?
WvW is the only place I can see this being an issue and even then; 2 rings and a backpack are not going to make the difference. The people comparing the Ascended stat increase to orbs are forgetting that orbs (all three) gave 15% effectiveness in general, while an 8%-15% increase in stats on 2 rings and a back slot are not even close to the effect of even 1 orb of power.
This whole “left behind” phenomenon is the residual mentality from previous MMO’s and has no parity with how the game actually feels and plays.
Oh no, I’m not on the chart!
I enjoy both PvE and WvW and I do not have a lot of time to play but I to enjoy the new dungeon and the new gear and I like that there are new goals I can aim for with the game and I like that I get rewarded in WvW for what I do in PvE… and I do understand why everyone is complaining but I don’t think they have valid reasons and I think the issues they are bringing up will go away with time.
B with some F. Do like my alts though, just can’t be kittened to play them atm.
