What was the hype about?
A lot of people really like the camera changes. Its been a big asked for change.
Yes there have been an inordinate number of bugs. It certainly wasn’t hyped though. Not by Anet anyway. This was mostly about the camera and stability changes plus the streaming client.
You are only seeing the long requested camera changes, and if the previous camera did not bother you or you have no interest in the first person camera, then you obviously don’t like the change.
The other changes (listed here)
Include changes to stability which many embrace on wvw level, and spvp people have shown it did not nerf them noticeably, and stability continues to work as before for the most part. On large scale though, it prevents zergs from being “invulnerable” to CC, now that we can burn through stacks and finally use area control to some extent. PvE, you probably won’t notice anything at all.
Blink/port changes to clean up code and prevent “null” teleports from wasting cooldowns while (maybe intentionally) allowing more blinks and ports to work if there is a valid calculated walking path (wont work if you need to jump to reach it, but some old ledges are now reachable, while others are not. Most see this as a buff to vertical mobility now.)
A couple of quality of life and bug fixes (with bug introductions unfortunately, but they are actively addressing them. Argue on if it should have happened in the first place another post)
Streamed patching to try to make updates more seamless to the clients, most won’t notice or care, but it is there to help reduce server load and mass download times and increase play time.
And then some expansion pre-groundwork to help setup for the new data inbound.
A lot of work, a few client side things, mostly them just tidying up their game and changing a few rules.
I’m aware of change logg provided by devs…
If they manage to fix all bad stuff this could be called decent patch.
But as long as some (too many atm) guys are having 50-60% lower fps no changes can help them enjoy the game.
Example how you can ruin great stuff by delivering it wrong is ArcheAge. Awesome game delivered on completely wrong way. Same happened with this patch.
Good ideas implemented badly.
Again you are focusing on the camera changes and graphics, there were other mechanical changes made.
Lessons for life, you see what you want to see, no one can tell you different.
Not sure where you got the idea that there was some sort of hype. The patch introduced things that many players asked for.
I made it into the game with zero errors, zero bugs, and 12 minutes of downloading. My other 4-6 friends had similar experiences to mine, except that their download took a bit longer.. though they admittedly stated that they were probably downloading at the same time as everyone else trying to get into the game.
I love the new changes they introduced, great patch and friends agree. Thank you for strengthening our confidence in future patches and the expansion Anet! Can’t wait!
I had to give extra lap dances to fund the expansion cost but I’m sure it will be worth it!
I had a small issue with queasiness while playing in first person for a bit as well. The thing that really bugs me though, is the fact that when I’m running in first person I can still see the string of my shortbow on my screen. It’s not even the full string either, maybe half.
@Tomerant.2701:
I didn’t expect the camera change to have such an impact on my gameplay.
I just love it.
I’ve been playing with the FOV settings. After 5mins, I can’t go back to default and I previously had no interest in the camera changes.
The effect for me is breathtaking. Really opens up the world.
I agree the bugs have diluted this patch, but the good stuff is still good regardless. and the camera changes have taken me by surprise in a good way.
I haven’t had any issues with the camera itself, nor any queasiness. The biggest issue I have is that after I go into first-person mode and zoom back out, my character is invisible until I map or relog.
So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
What the patch gave is great QoL things but the bugs..this is the most bugs I’ve ever encountered in a patch by them. Its ludicrous
my best friend can’t play the game on his i7 with 16gb RAM and 2gb gpu cuz he has 20ish fps while before patch he had 70-80.
I usually play @25fps, and it’s all very playable XD
Wat r u, casul?
You should like up hype in the dictionary. I don’t think it means what you think it does. All that was hyped, if you can even call it that, where camera changes, and they showed us exactly what they were.
The camera changes were one of the most requested features for a very long time. It may not mean anything to you, but either way, it wasn’t hyped.
