Where is your Shangri-La?

Tyria is full of gorgeous vistas and tranquil spots. Do you have a favorite place you like to go to relax? To just take in the scenery? To have a Zen moment or two away from the crowds?

Why do you like it? Is it safe from wandering monsters? Is it easy to get to? Is it hard to get to?

If you aren’t afraid that crowds will begin to invade your hidden sanctum and set up condominiums, please share your favorite place of tranquility and include pictures if you have them!

It may not be a vista or some beautiful area, but my favorite place in the whole game is the norn home near Taigan Waypoint. All of the children’s dialogue there literally makes me laugh out loud, and what with the father ready to pull out his hair… and who doesn’t love to pummel some kid in the face with a snowball??

I’m a very established 80 with ascended gear and a legendary, been here since launch, blah blah blah… but whenever I need to do a few little things to finish my daily, or just to “get away” like you said, that is the place for me!

There are so many, both hard to get to and easy to find. But the earliest spot I found is also the one I return to most often; the treehouse outside Divinity’s Reach. Great pastoral view. Waterfall sounds in the distance. A nice cool breeze makes the shadows of the leaves play across your face. The reflection of the sun/moon sparkling on the water below. The sound of young children playing. Rarely any combat noises in the vicinity. GW1 Pre-Searing music in the background. And very easy and quick to get to. Not too close to civilization, but not too far either.

I kittening love the top floor of the windmill in Queensdale. I go lay down in the bed and play with the cat up there. It’s my home away from home.

As far as most beautiful goes, one of my favorite areas is the secret strawberry patch near the Town of Nolan.

I personally love how the underwater areas were done especially in Ascalon. Kelp with underwater beams of light shining down from the surface simply beautiful.

If I’m feeling in a meditative mood and want get away from the madding crowds, I head over to Scavenger’s Chasm in Malchor’s Leap. It’s one of the more difficult jumping puzzles so there’s rarely anyone there.

So beautiful in such an eerie way, the ancient runes carved into the stone, the sound of the waterfalls, trickles and streams carving out the oubliettes, distant sounds of bombing and bird cries.

No place can best the Hall of Monuments, maybe one day a Guild Hall…

Ahh…. the HoM… best place to relax away from the crowds, try armor mixes, dyes and stuff, completely lagg-less, accessible only by you, at any time, provided you have the portal stone in your inventory (only available to GW1 players), a place where you can relax without weird noises in the nearbies (probably caused by other players), randomly speaking NPCs or vile monsters spawning from previously-event-free spots…

A place that reminds you the old times…

In the smuggler’s cave NW Lion’s Arch. Completely free from a karma vendor there. Great for cheap travel to northern zones.

I was about to curl up in your bed the other day when I almost got knocked to my knees. It seems someone put up a Holo-Projector nearby and people keep triggering it. Must be one of those contractors for the condominium complex getting ready to start construction next door. It doesn’t seem to bother Fluffy, though.

The Hidden Garden jumping puzzle has so many beautiful spots. And you can easily hide yourself away from the handful of agressive mobs. I also like how its kind of mysterious to get to. Of course my favorite spot is probably near the Sun spot. (Don’t really have an screenshots of the area, but I do have a stupid video I made of my diving hijinks there. http://youtu.be/_VHcLyGjKHA)

Also the bamboo forest in the Grove is another favorite spot of mine. You have to like swim through a pond to get to the area, its quite hidden as well. Great for screenshots.

From what I know you need to own GW1 and have Eye of the north campaign finished. If I’m wrong then please tell me how to get a portal stone there :P

I never played GW1 yet I can go to Hall of Monuments. It’s empty of course except for Kimmes who has nothing for me.

I use it for discounted travel to northern zones.

Caledon Forest – pretty much all of it. Best zone in the game and the only one I can never get bored of.

The Grove – bottom level. Really chills you out.

I’m not fond of everything East of Snowden Drifts – all either white snow or brown desert. Only nice parts are the branded areas with crystals!
Doing map exploration of Fields of Ruin, Blazeridge Steppes, Iron Marches, etc – I nearly went mad with the monotony! Had a pretty negative affect on my mood in RL, it’s so boring/dull/dry. No greenery!

Two places:

1. Rata Sum at night with that full display of the cosmos.
2. Any lush green area that has active/dark storms in the background. I think I’ve seen some in Kessex before.
