Hey everyone!

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on GW2, college has kept me busy, but with the semester coming to an end, I wanted to get back into the game. Problem is….where is everyone?

Might be a stupid question, but I’ve been running around doing events and stuff and have yet to see a group of players around.

Idk, I see plenty of people all the time. What server are you on? And what area are you in? There are certain maps that are a bit empty (usually mid-level range maps).

It’s called CULLING we are not supposed to see anything/anyone until we are in the thick of things. Fixed in WvW but not PvE.

Crystal Desert. I guess that’s the problem, I’m level 50 at the moment, just a little bummed walking around…deserted areas.

Actually, the way culling works is that you’re supposed to see people unless there are too many, and then it starts now showing more than a certain number around you, and they appear/dissapear depending on you or other people moving around.

In my experience the mid level zones (I’d say about 40 to 60 or so) tend to be the less populated areas (except for where the shatterer spawns), while the low and high level areas are populated enough that it isn’t too rare to see them go into overflow (specially during the chest events), or at least that’s my experience so far on yak’s bend

If my WvW nights tells me anything, all of Crystal Desert is on their Borderlands and SBI’s

No matter what the fanbois tell you, it’s not nearly as populated as it was at launch.

The last character I levelled to 80 was my Mesmer. I had a blast in Queensdale and then found it more and more difficult to group up, let alone do any dynamic events. At around 40 I hit Hiranti Hinterlands {sp} and the meta event there was fairly well populated most of the time. Stayed there till around 60. After that it was business as usual, running around, doing hearts alone… until I got to Orr. CS was OK but not nearly as densely populated as in the Plinx or pre-Pent/Shelt nerf days, but at least you get to see some other people again.
(This was on SoS, btw…)

Good luck…

Again, based on what I was seeing in WvW, all of Sea of Sorrows was in the battleground/borderlands

(Yes, I’m joking slightly. However there was an alarming amount of you folks running around everywhere, at all times.)

How can you tell. At launch everyone was in the same five zones, moving through together. There were no fractals either. THere was no SAB.

So how do you know that it’s not as crowded at launch?

Of course in theory it shouldn’t be, but I just don’t think the difference is that dramatic.

Ease off the trigger…
We are still discussing the population of open world areas, right? If so, please have a look at your reply, then tell me how any of that is relevant to what I’ve posted before…
cause, I never said anything about where these people are supposed to be (or if they still play, at all). Just that open world is not nearly as populated as it was at launch.

A game comes out and looks overfull because everyone is in the same level range thus the same areas. There are 31 PVE areas including cities in each world, include WvWvW or sPVP zones 5 more plus FOTM and the new temp area in Rata Sum plus all of the dungeons. There are 51 worlds. How many people do you want in each zone?

what you said was “No matter what the fanbois tell you, it’s not nearly as populated as it was at launch.”

Since the OP asked where is everyone in GW2, the it you used would imply that you were talking about GW2 as a whole. If you wanted to specify “open world content only” then you should have said so. But instead you took the deliberately aggressive and insulting route of being vague while insulting fans of the game with an outright lie.

We have been told by the devs multiple times that the game is growing and gaining population. In fact they’ve announced that they had to raise the population caps on the servers twice since launch. Of course they haven’t made any announcement about the population in the last 3-4 weeks so I suppose some people could have left during that time.

OP to answer your question the zones between 40-60 are usually pretty empty. Many people choose to craft through those levels as they see them as the “slow” levels and many of the games more casual players have multiple low level alts but very few higher level players. This means you’ll find a TON of people in the low and high level zones but almost no one in the mid level zones.

While your xp will be slightly reduced, you can still level pretty well due to GW2’s scaling system if you go back to the low level zones where all the people are. Also I’d suggest joining a larger guild, many of them have leveling parties where you can group up with some guildies and hop from zone to zone completing them en mass.

I’ve been playing for just over 2 months and I noticed a different from when I first started.

I’ve got 6 characters at 80 with full exotics, but I’ve run out of steam on this game. 5 of those have world maps completed at 93/92 % leaving just the WvW parts.

I find that although I enjoyed on the whole getting those characters to 80 (hearts bit too repetitive) I’ve found my interest has slowly disappeared.

No reason in game to actually do anything now, world mobs seem to just spawn in the same places and don’t wander much. The world drops are so uninteresting that it’s not even any fun farming world mobs. The game just does not present any real end content other than chasing achievement points which is only interesting if you find that kind of thing interesting.

Last few days just logged in to do the dailies and to complete the pet collection on the ranger, which I’ve found can’t be completed anyway as four came from achievements in GW (1). Today logged in and just logged out again.

The reason I don’t bother much with WvW is this pc is not that quick so other players tend to appear out of thin air.

So I’ll be giving this game a rest.

Yep happened to me just the other day. No one in sight in an entire zone. Like no one. Dead as a doornail.

Then I ran into an event that was too hard for me to do alone. Not a soul in sight.

So I typed in map chat “Hey I could use some help over here” and linked a waypoint.

Within about a minute two other people shows up. There were six of them by the time the event closed.

Now, it’s entirely possible every single person in the zone dropped whatever they were doing and came to the event. But before I posted the event, there was no one around.

These zones are big, and not just big, but they’re convoluted. Caves, hills, multiple underground areas.

There are often more people in a zone than you’d expect.
