Which path...? Zamon's house OR a Party?
The rewards are the same, just from a storyline perspective it varies. The only time during the PS that the choice matters much is when you have to choose a Order to join. Even that choice however is mostly just storyline effects and cosmetic.
Yeah, the rewards are the same. Some choices actually (and somewhat surprisingly) lead to objectively better outcomes, story-wise. But that’s it.
If you want to know what the outcome will be you can look each story chapter up on the wiki (sometimes you’ll also need to look up the next chapter) to find out what the outcome is. Obviously there will be spoilers, but if you want to make an informed decision that’s the best way.
Alternatively you can take the approach that this isn’t a Bioware game, you can’t make a horrible choice and screw things up completely, so you can just pick whichever seems best at the time.

I’ve done both, I prefer the investigation path. Logan is dumb, and even if we break in the house, there’s no guarantee that there will be any evidence inside.

Thanks for all the great great feedback! HaxTester, you prefer the party then?
Yup, and you get to know how “sneaky” Countess Anise really is, which you will see more in LS2.
The party lets you talk to more NPCs and get more involved with the intrigue, the house is just a standard “kill everything” story.
I always go with Zamon’s House, only because I know it like the back of my hand after 3 years and it’s more time saving compared to the party.
Only because, I want my dang key and I don’t wanna spent valuable time on my way to that key mingling with party-goers and getting neck-deep into broken Divinity Reach Politics.

Tell that to Tonn and his wife, or Apatia.

It’s been a long time since I did any personal story stuff, so pardon me if my knowledge is rusty, but I think there are certain achievements from doing certain story branches?
I don’t recall how granular it was, I’d check the wiki.
But those are the only reason I can think of to take one over the other.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
I think there are achievements for all of them so you eventually want to do all the paths if you can.
I usually pick the party, and then invite up to 4 friends to come use the instance as a chance to RP in a fancy party setting. Now that we have the always-available LS2 chapter with a huge party in the Pavilion, though, that’s less of a factor. Still, the party is a nice change of pace from the combat-oriented PS steps we usually get, and does give a lot of insight into the personalities and politics of DR. It also gives you more context for your choices of partner in the next story step (in fact, I think it gives you one extra option, someone you meet at the party that you wouldn’t if you had done the B&E choice).
