All I can say is that A-Net has lost me …

Then why are you still here posting? Do you go to restaurants that disappoint you and tell people going in how you disliked their food and/or service so that’s why you don’t come here anymore except to hassle warn customers?

If you don’t like the game and left, then please, for those who do enjoy the game, leave the game’s forums as well. The things you are complaining about is so fundamental to the game’s design that it’ll never be changed to a system where doing content A rewards B. Might as well as ask them to reformulate the professions into the classic MMO triad and turn it into yet another WoW clone.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

The loot system is not so fundamental that it can not be changed, it already has been changed. The game launched with no Account bound RNG skins, they added them latter. I’m tired of people that keep bringing up precursors, THIS IS NOT A ISSUE WITH PRECURSORS. You can farm gold and get a precursor, like how I got all 6 of my precursors. The account bound RNG skins are the issue, they can not be bought, you can only run into the time gated daily chests, and most of the time be disappointed. And then you do the same content day after day, but your chance of getting the drop does not increase. There is good probability that you will never get the drop, like how I never gotten a fractal dagger, even after running hundreds of fractal and having 15/19 weapons, I never got the one skin i wanted.
Simply these items need a non RNG token system, just like how the game was launched with. Just like how Armbraces of Truth were in GW1. I don’t do fractal anymore because of the RNG BS of fractal skins, but I start doing them again if I had a non RNG alternative.

But the loot system is tied to the TP in terms of acquiring the gear you want. If it wasn’t for RNG loot then a major reason for using the TP goes bye-bye and it will revert to a crafting gear market like every other player market in every other MMO.

And thus we get to the heart of the problem. It reminds me of those twix commercials with the left and right factory.

Left: ‘we make it this way!’
Right: ‘we make it a different way!’

When we, as the audience, are suppose to see the irony that though ‘made’ different, its the same thing.

And reading these forum boards, its all the suggestions turn out to be about. ‘This mmo did something I like, so another mmo should do it too! This mmo had this feature, I demand it be the new mmo too!’ And if the revs follow, we have just a carbon copy of said previous mmo. We finally seem to be starting to move away from this stale ideal, and devs trying new things, but players want to go back to the old ways.

But the old stuff is still there! You want raids? You got WoW, Rift, Star Wars, everquest I and II, which include your standard get quest from object or NPC A, kill B, go back to A. They also have mounts! Some have macros, addons, DPs meters, gear gind, everything people say gw2 MUST have or it will fail!

But let’s just stop and take a step back. What’s the point in going to a new mmo if it is basically the same as the old one? Do I really want to start all over just because a race or class looks cool, or because I am bored with my current mmo story? Why bother when I have everything already in this game and preparing for next patch/expansion?

If gw2 ends up failing, then let that rest on anet. Honestly, after buying the game, playing, you get your moneys worth (more so if you got it on sale). And after that, the only money you possibly put into the game was of your own will since no subscription fees. You literally have NOTHING to lose.

Did gw2 break the tradional mold? I would say cracked it by not following some traditional things, but sticking to others. And in all honesty, that’s what mmo players are looking for, the next mmo that breaks the mold and captures us by being truly different and a new experience.

So rather than trying to drag gw2 back into the mold, try to suggest new ideas for them to think about, or give good criticism when something doesn’t work and ideas to fix it. Not just complain.
