I have all 8 80’s and Warrior by far was my most challenging…to not make boring. I finally came up with a totally non-meta build that was actually fun & interesting to play.

I think it’s wise to remember a game without fun is work, and work with no pay at that.

To be blunt: That’s a stupid question. Same as asking “Why don’t people like things that I like”.

Every class has their play style.

Heavy
Warrior for high survivability and dps mixed together, very effective in melee combat. Can die quick when their defenses drop.

Guardian for better support play style with alot of boons. Low health and limited condition removal options makes them vulnerable against attrition combat.

Medium
Ranger for variety of combat styles, and even highly mobile support. Jack of all trades and part dps reliant on pet, most skills also more selfish.

Engineer for jack of all trades, alot of options, also possess a good condition burst. Doesn’t possess strong skills, some skills are also unpredictable.

Thief for fast, stealth and high single target DPS. Low health and medium defenses limits them to hit and run style gameplay only.

Light
Elementalist for jack of all trades and alot of AoE potential. Low health and defense leaves them mostly glass cannons.

Necromancer for attrition style combat, conditions and boon/condition manipulation skills. Doesn’t possess good spike options, only attrition style most viable.

Mesmer for deception, manipulation and with support options. Should their illusions fail to deceive foes, left vulnerable that way.

So many wrong things in this one post.
The data seems to be from 2013.

“Can die very quickly when the defense dropped”
What does that even mean? Warrior has high regen, HP and armor, when do their defense drop? It’s all passive!

Guardian limited condition removal…. Are you kidding me?
One trait that removes every 10 sec, signet that removes every 10 sec, shout that remove conditions, utility that remove conditions, light field that ckittened to clear condition through whirl… etc etc…

Engineer “some skills are also unpredictable”?
That’s the data from 2013 yknow.
Now stealth and stability are completely reliable.
If you’re talking about 6 skill healing, few people use that anyway…

Necromancer power build is completely viable and dish out lots of raw damage.
The only problem nec has is it is one of the most selfish class in terms of support.

Just because you typed alot doesn’t make them right…

When I compare gameplay of my warr, and gameplay of my thief, mesmer, or engi, I can tell you – if there is a class for noobs, it is Warrior… It was even stated before launch, that warrior is for people who like straight forward easy class.

The meta is berserker DPS and when it comes to that formula warriors do it best. Anything else and you’re sub par and gimping yourself. This isn’t a troll post, I’ve played every profession (excluding engi) up to level 40 and played a necro/ele/warrior at 80 in full exotics. Warriors are pure faceroll. Walk up, smash a button or two and you walk away with a mob kill and 90% health. Other classes need to bounce around, worry about placing skills or their health bar. In fact, I never even use my healing skill because the regeneration on it does the work for me.

If the game welcomed builds other than berserkers then the other professions would be worth playing, but ATM everyone should just play a warrior.

The meta FOR PLAYERS IS DPS, it doesn’t mean it is the meta for the game. If you did just DPS, in WvW or EotM, you would not survive long at all.

A.Net said, there are other builds for the game (many, many builds). It is just that players have come here from other games, where DPS is king (like games with the Trinity). There are all sorts of viable builds, just not DPS.

Andddd this is why you can’t take most balance threads around here seriously.

— Assumes people only play one game mode
— Info is outdated meta
— Implicit confusion between meta and viable, assuming people want to even speedrun content. To what end is speedrunning? It means the faster acquiral of gold and other materials, which is a valid goal if you’re trying to get something, but not necessarily a goal for all players. It is not like the vertical progression in this game is particularly steep and doing it faster doesn’t really open up any new content excluding fractals. Heck, some would argue for this, the “tp meta” is better, and why bother rolling any class then? Or maybe even the “credit card” meta.

Basically “attempted” elitism passing off as fact.

The whole idea of “meta” in PvE is utterly irrelevant for 99% of players. Sure, if you are in some quote-unquote “hardcore” speedrun group, trying to repeatedly blaze through dungeons as efficiently as possible, all day long — and everyone in the group is at the top of their game — playing the “meta” might save you a couple of minutes each run. But unless you are in that top echelon of ultra-efficient speedrun players (and don’t kid yourself, you probably aren’t), any noticeable impact the “meta” will have on your performance is mostly in your own imagination.

This is not true. It’s fairly easy to tell the difference between Ascended Celestial gear with Traveler’s runes and Exotic Berserker gear with Scholar’s runes when solo’ing camps in WvW — it works with both, but the latter is much faster. (Both were with basically the meta for my class — which I can also assure you is much more efficient than what I was running previously.)
……

Did you miss the “in PvE” part of his statement….you consider WvW to BE PvE?(maybe EotM is somewhat close…..?). Taking a Camp might be similar to PvE, but it is NOT indicative of the situations you encounter in an Open PvE zone (which is were the concept of “meta” is a non-issue). In most PvE situations (sans instanced Dungeons), how FAST you kill something is irrelevant except in the mind of those that need some sort of cyber-validation in their “life”.

When was the last time you saw an all-warrior roaming group in WvW?

Oh, that’s right: never.

when my guild was on DB, we once had a warrior killshot squad raid night on our joke night (the other joke night was an MM necro army!)

Basically we had one thief and mesmer (me) apply stealth to all of the killshot warriors so they could snipe out the drivers of enemy groups and general scrubs! It was really fun but not at all serious.

Anyway as for the topic of this thread, I honestly don’t play warrior because I don’t like warrior type classes thematically in EVERY game I’ve ever played, and sometimes in GW2 I feel like I’m being punished for that preference. I like more magical themes, particularly with dark magic or mental magic, making necro and mesmer appealing choices for me, but their tendancy to recieve nerfs and not the buffs they need make it feel like I’m being punished for playing a class I like the theme and concept of in many different, but not all game modes.

Both of my Norn warriors almost exclusively use the bear form elite skill, it might not be “optimal meta omg” but it’s surely awesome! I’d gladly sacrifice those precious extra seconds/minutes/years it takes me to kill stuff, to play builds that I enjoy thematically.
