^ If you are an Ele or a ranger, firing AoE at a zerg with just one guardian able to mass-spam retaliation is suicide. That skill suggestion would kill you faster than you can heal.

I was thinking more along the lines of a weapon, like siege that can scatter a zerg. I really don’t have a good answer, just thinking out loud.

I don’t want to spend my own money. It’s hard enough to get money in this game, why make us spend more on things that could just be obliterated overnight?

Why not have you earn a WvW form of currency from participating, and use that for building/upgrading? That way you put in the time, you get rewarded by able to build more stuff?

Actually this weekend was the first time I ever played for any length of time. Sure, a lot of its kinda zergy. But that doesn’t mean its not fun.

Its even more fun if you are with your guild group on a voice server of some sort. We laughed and played it most of the day Saturday.

Prior to Saturday though, I’ve been just too busy exploring the all the professions and various maps.

Warrior sort of has the increased effectiveness while hitting multiple enemies if you use procs on crits and a crit g/s build because you get might for each crit and thus go up to 25 stacks quickly while also stacking a ton of bleeding, vulnerability, possibly either proc healing or aoe flame.. You should have plenty of power and crit damage and % to essentially curbstomp anything in a few seconds. the longer the battle lasts and fewer opponents you have, the worse it gets though.

Hope that helps. Also theres the spin 2 win attack and hundred blades and the other pvp combos. You end up giggling like a maniac if people have the unfortunate idea of standing next to each other.

Other than that, most builds don’t scale with how many things you are hitting at the moment but I haven’t played every class and every build yet. All I know is it takes me less time to kill 6 orrians standing next to each other than 1 orrian.

when i was on Henge of Denravi, i tried to access it, and it said the areas were full. so i gave up trying right then and there. i swapped servers to Stormbluff, but never felt like trying to go in there, again.

i prefer the somewhat consistency of AI enemies to REAL ones. makes me feel better about myself, and gaming session more enjoyable. also glad i could give other players the change to enter by not filling up the queues. Your welcome.

Because it has no factions and I can’t associate a fantasy video game to some hyped novelty like eSport.

Red team vs Blue team? Really? What’s the point?

If I go there at all I simply want to finish off as many players as possible, I don’t care for the game objectives, it’s to “esporty” for my taste.

If there would be enemies for a reason, then I could identify with the game’s objectives. I need a story to go along.
Video games are not for sports, they are for the fun and imagination and some memorable moments.

Guild wars should be war between orders, because orders are guilds too.

I prefer sPvp, only because similar to GW1 it’s all about refining your build.

WvWvW is where your class rarely matters unless your one of those few with good ranged AOE and even the, they have cool downs. Everyone is a peon with supply running around dying or building siege equipment. It’s rare there is a battle where your class skills matter and most outcomes are determined by who has siege and supply.

I don’t MIND that, I like the open sandbox map they have created, just wish my character could actually use skills on his bar from time to time. Look at how keeps are designed, people on walls can attack those below, but it’s limited to skills with 1200+ range. People on the ground can’t attack back, which is lame. Why can’t a squad of eles and archers hit those on walls? I know there is barrage, but that is only one skill, and with a long cool down.

If our regular attacks could hit those on walls, and those on walls had more options to attack from walls sieging might be more fun. As it stands now you have two dozen people spam attacking a gate doing nil damage, while 2 rams take it down. I usually just stand off on a hill waiting for the gate to fall, it’s not fun.

The culling is the other reason I don’t play, I have a great computer, and I get 50+ fps even in the thickest of battles, but those invisable army pop ins kill it. I can climb a tower and look out in the distance and see nothing, then BAM army at the gate. Makes watchtower or scouting duty completly useless.

As for rewards, the server rewards aren’t really noticable, maybe an in game annoucement to the entire server what bonuses they are getting because of wvwv might create more interest. Otherwise the only reward is bragging rights, but you can’t do that on the forums, because anet cc mods are over clicky happy :p

As it stands now, I only play for the monthly, and I hate doing it. Maybe if supply rate was increased or if players could carry more supply it would give people more siege toys to play with, might make it better.

WVW is the biggest thing in this game. Its why people are doing server hopping and why PVE is nothing in this game now. Sure Shore’s will add something new but in a month it will be back to WVW and server hopping. If you bought the game for PVE and DE. forget about it now. The game is all about PVP.

But for me it’s mostly because my priority is PvE > WvW, so it gets secondary attention only.

I mostly play gw2 for WvWvW. With that being said, I absolutely agree with the complaints in this thread. Repair costs for PvP is the bi-polar opposite of “casual friendly” and pushes a large demographic away. Rewards are lackluster for a lvl 80 zone with lvl80 repair costs. Travel time is tedious and boring without mounts, temporary speed buffs, or at least a one-way portal from your home base to the bottom of its cliffs, just to get back on a main road. I love the basic premise, but all the little negatives are beginning to add up…Out of 26 friends that started playing Gw2 just for WvWvW, only 5 of us are still playing.

I like WvWvW in theory but in practice it falls short. I feel like I spend more time running from place to place then actually helping in any way (running to different places that need help, running back from the portal after I die, running back from the portal again after I accidentally come across a zerg) that it can become boring and/or frustrating quickly. Combined with lag and rendering issues it is often more bothersome to play than it is entertaining. The chaotic nature of it is also confusing- the first time I joined a game I had no idea what was going on and left quickly. I also feel like the time and effort I put in to playing is not well rewarded- nor do I have a clear idea of what goals we are trying to attain. I just feel like I am ping-ponging from point to point, capturing and recapturing to no concrete end.

There are many reasons why i don’t like WvWvW:
First or all is social part: i have no idea who i’m playing with and who i’m playng against.
I mean in any other MMO projects people are applying to join any guild and in case they are slackers or just plain kitten they could be kicked but you can’t kick people from server, you know. And fighting vs some random sprites without even names on them and being just random sprite for them is no fun either. I’d rather enjoy fights like 3 50-60 ppl guld ally vs another 3 50-60 ppl guild ally for some resources or just ladder position.

Second thing is 24/7 WvWvW format. What do i suppose to do if i’m going to play to win? Playing 18 hours/day straight starting form late night to early evening? WTF is that? Is it super hardcore?I highly doubt it, since it’s casual game, looks like just flawed by design. Not to mention i’ll fight against undefended keep doors in that case most of time. How fun is that? How fun is to know that whatever good you are the result is mostly going from night capers and you are just unimportant? I’d rather play 2-3 hours mass pvp events 2-3 times a week, at least that makes some sense.

Third thing is flawed game mechanics. I don’t see any class interaction whatsoever. Buffs in this game that work like group of people sticking together once a while and starting to spam skills under they feet altogether seems just wrong, stupid and glitchy. I want to get real big fat buffs for my class from other classes and be able to give big fat buffs for other classes. That is what pvp is about in successful pvp games. And kitten that targeting system, seriously.

The forth thing is performance. This game has minimal settings. My PC is way above those settings but i still suffer fps drop and sprite loading delays. Its kinda unplayable quite often. IDK, i think there should be some minimal settings to make this game playable even for WvWvW zerg fights, i don’t really care if it would look like minecraft, but it should be playable kitten

Yeah, i’ve found that this game is not for me quite a long ago and now i only lurks on forums once a while hoping for any good updates to come. I just like this topic somehow so i decided to place my QQ here. Peace.

I rarely participate in WvW mostly because every time you die, there is a repair bill and I can’t seem to save up enough gold to a point where repair bills stop hurting. One or two times is fine but in WvW they tend to accumulate and the drops don’t offset the penalty.

I don’t WvW much because:
(a) Takes forever to run from the spawn point to the action. Too much downtime before I get to have fun.
(b) Things are rarely balanced at the macro level. Too often we either control the entire map or we control none of the map and are penned up at our spawn point. Either way, not fun.
© Things are rarely balanced at the micro level. Either I’m part of a huge zerg and everything’s already dead before I get to it, or I’m on my own and I get hunted and killed by the first enemy to spot me.
(d) I’ve done it already. Same reason I don’t go back and replay the zones I’ve finished much – I’ve seen the content and moved on.
(e) No recognition of personal effort. I pull out my big AoEs and things die – but everyone else was doing the same thing. Was my AoE helpful? Or did I miss entirely? Am I just sitting here being useless? How would I know?
(f) Costs of being relevant are too high. I don’t want to spend my silver buffing outposts or buying siege plans when we’re just going to lose all the terrain again overnight. I have better things to do with that silver that I’ll see the benefit of personally.
(g) The map’s confusing. The shortest path from a spawn point to the action is rarely a straight line – there are cliffs and bridges and water and falling damage and gates and it’s just a pain trying to actually find the battles and take part in them.
(h) PvP players are the worst. They’re exactly the people I’d least choose to hang out with of my own accord.

This. And many of the addendums people have added over the course of this thread. The walk, though. The walk. I’ve often said it in dungeons with some of the more, ah, distant WPs, but it applies to some extent in WvWvW, too: It’s not the dying that bothers me so much. It’s the long walk back that rubs it in my face. No bueno.

I liked RvR in DAoC and played pvp in a few other games since. They had their goods and bads. I was hoping GW2 would play like DAoC’s RvR. It doesn’t. So that was a disappointment. I can get over that though.

There doesn’t seem to be much strategy. Zerg v zerg, and you have to because if you are alone or small group, you get mowed over, usually by a bunch of people you can’t see ’til you are already dead.

There isn’t really a goal besides a scoreboard that resets once a week. You are matched against random opponents. You may as well be pve’ing because they are just like mobs but instead of Grub or Minotaur they are Invader or Defender. They don’t have names, no distinguishable features because they are all in red or green or blue.

Many times there is little to no communication. When you enter wvw your best bet is to try and make it to wherever the commander icon is to join the zerg. If it weren’t for the commander icon, you would never know where the zerg was. The little crossed swords are not always the best indicator and besides, it is usually over by the time you get there and you either run into invisible enemies, or nobody is around at all.

I like to go to wvw still. But, I usually leave out of frustration over not being able to see the enemy. Also, why is it I can see everyone just fine when I am DEAD?

Imbalance alone makes it not worth while on some servers. Some match ups are steam rolls with one server wiping the others the entire time it’s simply pointless logging in. Once the snowball starts rolling it only gets worse. Add to that the ability to reach a point of no return in score and people quickly find little incentive to continue taking it seriously for the week. Most WvW match ups are determined early in the week and this has an impact on participation.

Aside from that WvW is a very niche play style, unless you are in small groups and settling for small ops, the format players very little like the rest of the game. Fighting in zergs eliminates the viability of most play styles and strategies. Add to that the inability to gear up in WvW in similair ways to PvE or sPvP and it can be unrewarding outside of the experience.

Finally, what I believe will be the ultimate downfall of WvW. Culling. Around 80% of the time I am unable to see my opponents. That’s a deal breaker for most people, and for those that stick around, patience is wearing thin.

At it’s best, it’s annoying. At it’s worse, it’s frustrating (thanks to culling, bugs and exploits, ttk, repair costs and time to travel).

The size difference in maps between borderlands and EB is not big enough, pop caps are too high and I cant be useful there because my computer and internet connection cant handle the massive, soul crushing lag. If there were more smaller battlegrounds, say, 3 keeps, 6 camps, and 3 spawn points with much smaller player limits then not only could I participate but guild organization could play a much larger role too. Basically, GvG but updated to fit with the WvW stylings.

Redesign it so there are small maps an average computer and internet connection can handle and so that everyone zerging together is not a viable strategy, then I will play it more than I have to. I really, really want it to work and be fun but I just cant particiapte now with the lag and the zergs and the lag.

There is only one reason to go to WvWvW to get 100% map completion.
It is terrible that Anet forces it upon us gooing to there, i can not honestly imagine that there are reasonable persons who like it.

1. the biggest numbers win. no tactics or skill can change that fact maybe a 2% gain by using structures/buildings/siege&defend weapons but that’s about it.

2. money drain for repairing you armor, so i now run naked through it to avoid the cost.

3. once i have 100% map completion you’ll never see me there again.

4. it should not influence the real world

5. only childeren like to kill not active players because yo just can becuase he’s not active or totally outnumbered.

6. game crashes, and if it doen’t it has the fog horn bug.

Been matched up against the same 2 servers the past 3 weeks and its getting boring.

There’s also the persistent pet peeves that seem inescapable even 2 months after launch: a mindless wall of new players going in circles around the map, people who abandon/ignore defenses, people who “use” siege who don’t know how to use them, people who take supply from keeps/towers, the list goes on. I’m just tired of going into WvW and doing my best to support my server and communicate across the battlefield when people ignore orange swords on the map and don’t listen to commanders.

I was really excited about WvW. Then I tried it. The concept is fun but there needs to be some changes made.

Here is a list of the items that bug me the most about WvW:

Repair costs – This is a Pvp mode. It is a given that you are going to die at some point. Why do I have to pay for repairs?

Sidekicking – Raising a level 2 player up to level 80 but not giving them the armor and traits to go with it is just mean. Why can’t it be like sPvP? That would even things out a little bit.

Running – Why is there only 1 way point in the whole map? Why? It takes so long to get back to the battle that it’s over. My group has moved on and now I am all alone and have to find them FAST or die.

Useless Siege weapons – They cost way to much to purchase and take a lot to built but they do very little damage. A siege weapon should be something the other side fears. They should want to stop you from building one. Instead they ignore it. It’s not worth the time or cost to build one. The players can just knock down the doors without siege weapons anyway in just a few minutes. The siege weapons the centaur use in PvE are more dangerous.

No siege weapon needed – The doors and walls of the keeps must be made of cardboard. It should take longer than 5 minutes for a small group to bust through a door using only their weapons but it doesn’t.

What is hitting me? – I can’t see what is hitting me till after I’m dead. Then they magically appear. All 10 of them. Really it took all of you to kill me? I must be so L33t.

I’m sure there is more but these are the main gripes. I don’t bother to WvW anymore. There’s no reason to. It costs to much and isn’t any fun unless you can run with a zerg. If your in a small group or alone you are meat. Tasty, tasty meat.

I use to WvW a lot but when you are in a guild and they want you to defend constatly, instead of earning Karma. Not that I do not mind defending. But if you get steamrolled from trying to defend you are basicly going into WvW to waste coin on repairs constantly, and siege equipment that gets destroyed. It is basicly a faster way to throw coin out the window. Not worth it anymore. Nor the coin wasting.

Defending- believe it or not… but SBI… #1 Sucks at Defense. Burns me up constantly. I’ve been on SBI since Launch. They excel on zerg tactics (who doesn’t) but after they own it and upgrade it… they leave it totally undefended. UGH!)&*((^Y&)(YP(*Y\

Defense sucks because Commanders don’t dole out the duty. One could say good Commanders don’t order their troops to do what they won’t normally do… but I say they are worthless. A Good Commander knows you have to hold what you have as you take on more… SBI sucks at this.

Today at 5pm… I watched SBI lose 2 fully upgraded keeps- one with only a single objection (me) as they broke through the inner gate. The second followed shortly after. SBI, #1, is first on attack, dead last on defense.

I can’t be the only one to see it… and I forsee them losing rank soon… if they don’t ‘wake up’ shortly.

Defense is important- just don’t let your realm walk all over you. Don’t buy upgrades, don’t stand sentry for hours at time. It’s like our economy almost. You have to let them lose, lose, lose for a while before the populace will finally wake up the fact that they are losing because THEY caused it. It’s not pug’s job to gaurd home base, but Commander’s… and the realm as a whole.

Your ignorance is showing hugely.. Wv3 needs some tweaking but your objections are trash. You have obviously not spent one iota of time on a competitive server in Wv3.

1. More waypoints can be built at E, W, Garrison keep in ‘regular’ borderlands… and in EB at Prime Keep and StoneMist… these are considered upgrades and much be purchased with coin and adequate supply.

2. Siege depends on placement and strategy. Seriously… Ballista can hit for 5500+, arrow carts hit 550+ AOE, Treb and Catapults… even more. Trebs hit walls for 10K… how long it takes depends on what upgrades have been done. If wall/door is not re-enfornced… a single ram can get through it quickly… otherwise it takes many rams… uncontested, etc.

3. Kinda agree on Repair costs… but if they didn’t charge something- folks would suicide constantly. There has to be some deterrent.

4. Small groups- I feel for you there. Suggest you do the Puzzle… can be done once a day.. resets EST late ~ 8pm. 4-5 badges and some free siege patterns. Otherwise you are right… you have to be either highly skilled or numerous to flip just about anything. This is intended. If you wanted something you could do alone or with a buddy- there is plenty of NPC in PVE available.

Wv3… is meant to be an extension of GW2.. GUILD wars 2… that is huge groups… zergs… fighting against each other. IF 1v1 is your thing… Wv3 is not the place for you.. Don’t complain… this is supposed to be a TEAM EFFORT. THERE IS NO ‘I’ in team… so move right along, don’t pass ‘GO’ just gtfu out. Thanks!

I’m actually just scared being killed by another player.

No one can see your name without putting forth way too much effort. There are no threads with names on the forums of the “worst” players and people talking about who they kill. The PVP players wouldn’t allow nonsense like that.
If another player sees you getting attacked in pvp, 90% of the time they will help you.
The other 10% didn’t see you but you saw them.
You are never chastised or told off because you died, we all die and we all kill.
It’s not as bad as you might think.
Yes, every player on the other side could kill you but you can also kill them.

PVP deaths are not a big deal. You have to experience it to see what it’s like out there and there is no personal shame in dying. Each time you die you learn a new thing to try to survive, you will improve the more you fight. There are huge zergs that form with lots of people in them following around commanders or sometimes just a random person with good ideas. You are not alone in pvp if you find those groups by just watching the chat talking about what they are going to do or run into them by accident. You can see other players as green dots on the map. Move toward other players if you see a large group for more protection.

There is nothing to fear in pvp here. Go for it. Go in expecting to die and knowing that you aren’t going to always die just like when you start a new character. Even level 5 players can participate in a zerg. You can do it. You might have a whole lot of fun too. There is some real accomplishment from random people just doing things together but not being forced to group.

Thank Almighty! I’d be #1 on that list. You can do a command /deaths to see how many times you have died. Not sure if it’s lifetime, toon specific. Me I’m at 500! (I have 5 toons from 17-80)

My server is either facerolling or is getting facerolled. I only participate when we losing, because I like a challenge and don’t enjoy spawn killing. I haven’t played this week, because my server owns everything all the time.

Whenever I see my server’s main zerg guild appear I switch maps. They force the other servers to zerg and they just run all over the map swapping towers and supply camps with each other. Nothing is more boring than zerging.

It would be more interesting if there were some reason to fight.

Like if we fight for our orders, for example all Vigil members against all Whisper members.
After all they fought once allready in the past. so why don’t we recreate that past of guild/order wars in WWW?

We would put on our order helmets or whole sets of order armor, those who have it, for some visual identification point and go fight for the glory of our order.

That would be more inspiring and in the line of the lore of GW2 than some anonymous esport match-making.

Guild wars should be war between orders, because orders are guilds too.

I do WvWvW

Only real problem I have is that there aren’t enough WP’s. I’m actually afraid to die because of the run back, to the point I might even avoid combat altogether in some situations.

I don’t do it because of the massive lag increase I get in WvW whenever I run into a moderately sized group. I’ll be jumping in as soon as I build my new computer.

I love WvW, but don’t play it as much as I would because of the invisible zergs bug, which is hopefully being addressed in the future.

Gameplay has gotten slightly stale, but we still normally have queues on most maps on Aurora Glade.

Try changing servers to one which is more focussed on WvW.

Actually I think the WPs are perfect. It’s good that you are afraid to die! I can’t think why you’d want to play a game where dying meant nothing and you could just keep respawning over and over with no consequence…

Avoiding combat is often the best tactical decision, it sound like you are learning strategy! Keep it up

I don’t play W3 because I don’t enjoy PvP in any form. It’s a shame that because of that I won’t ever see a monthly reward or earn a legendary but I realise that it’s my choice.

I rarely WvW because I like to play with players to achieve an objective and have a little bit of story and loot for my character. Not to repeatedly fight players over objectives that are lost by the next time you log on with little reward to show for it, it has no sense of accomplishment to for.

Never been a big PvP fan, but WvW is the best form of casual PvP I have played, add more activities (Not just killing a player) and a greater sense of accomplishment and I would probably play it more often.
