Has happened to me since launch on two different types of mouse. The dragons are the worst. They take up the entire screen and I waste well more than half the battle trying to target the thing. You can only target their hands or head, and keeping them on camera is ridiculously hard. Not being able to zoom far enough out is a related problem. The second biggest issue I have is camera jam. Tight spaces making it impossible to see what your trying to attack because you can’t zoom into a first person shooter view. Surprised they haven’t thrown a bunch of trees and foliage around the dragons to further troll us.

Seriously, I’d take the trade off, first-person cam but stuck with crappy targeting = cool beans!

btw, there are dragons in this game? Ohhh maybe you mean those feet creatures.. sort of like the eye creatures back in eq1, but feet! I sometimes try to look up to get a better look at the foot creature, but all I see is butt. Then I get really confused… a feet creature that morphs into a butt. Very creative, Anet!

In my opinion the problems with targeting in this game are one of the top 3 most critical problems that need to be resolved in regard to game function. It is plagued with problems like what has been discussed in this thread, and it heavily takes away from the “fun” factor in combat.
Some of what I have had issues with:

1.) Targets just dropping
2.) Targets switching upon applying an AoE target area because an NPC/MOB/Player was underneath my mouse when I clicked (this makes large battles a targeting disaster)
3.) “Target Nearest” is the most effective tool I’ve seen in any MMO for targeting the farthest possible mob. To paraphrase what one player said “Target Nearest targets a mob in Azeroth”

There are a lot of problems with GW2, and most of what I hammer on is crafting/loot related, but this is one of those areas that is extremely irritating because even when I want to just run around and expand my map on a character this problem gets in the way. Especially on my staff Necro.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

Surely you must’ve also had the one where you have almost killed one enemy in a group and you get downed – cue change target for no reason to one with full health mode. Meanwhile the one with one hit left flees the scene before you can change back
