Why is the damage dealt not the same each time? I have tested this with a warrior rifle, no runes and sigils, no boons, and no conditions on the target.

The damage dealt seems to be random and sometimes the damage decrease is up to -12.78%

There is a damage range on each weapon, indicating the range of damage it is capable of. Since there is a range of damage each weapon does, it makes sense that not every hit will do the same damage.

Did you look at the picture? it is the same skill and I was shooting at the same distance so your explanation is wrong.

The damage range on the rifle is 1035-1265. The explanation I gave you was correct, you just didn’t bother to look at the damage range of the weapon you are wielding, instead of just looking at the skill description.

Since you seemed to have trouble understanding me, I have given you a screenshot illustrating my point, and proving me correct.

range of dmg of the weapons he means x-y dmg and that will also make your skill dmg differ from use to use just like what fatalyz said

Range he was referring is not the distance from the foe. Every weapon has a weapon strenght range. Dumb example: sword lv 1, weapon strenght 1-10, every hit can deal a dmg to a foe of 1 or 2 or 3….. or 10 dmg. (It isn’t like this because there are a lot of others mechanics that elaborare the dmg dealt) but here is why the dmg change everytime.

For Direct Damage:

Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

In the case of Fierce Shot, using a L80 Exotic Rifle as in Fatalyz’ tooltip.

Weapon Strength (986-1205) * Power (a constant, if no buffs are used it’s just the base power from your gear plus 1000) + Fierce Shot Skill coefficient (also a constant — 0.605 — see the Wiki page) / Target’s Armor (in this case, a constant due to targeting a golem).

Due to the one variable, there are more than 200 possible outcomes depending on the random generation of weapon strength.

There is a random factor to the damage each time you hit. This is used to simulate slightly more or less damaging hits that would occur in combat.

It goes back to Pen and Paper RPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons. Once you confirm that you’ve hit a target, you roll a dice and add in any modifiers to see how much damage you did. If you’re lucky, you’ll roll high and do more damage. Unlucky, and you roll low, doing less. While it usually averages out, a run of good or bad luck can sway a battle, sometimes to the point of making an “impossible” fight winnable. (Or, of course, the opposite can happen.)

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

I can’t think of a single MMO, or RPG for that matter, I’ve ever played that didn’t have variable damage ranges. I can’t even really wrap my mind around how someone doesn’t understand after the multiple fully fleshed out explanations posted.

Flyff had static damage on normal hits but variable damage on crits and skills. Not super relevant to the discussion, though.

The OP has only replied once, which was in response to the first post. It’s a bit unfair to say he doesn’t understand after multiple explanations when he’s not said anything to indicate that (or anything at all). For all we know he hasn’t had time to come back on the forum since the first reply was posted and hasn’t seen any of the other responses.

Or the barrage of people saying the same thing (and claiming it’s obvious, every game works like that, how could you possibly not know etc.) made him feel like he was being criticised for being stupid and he’s now too embarrassed to post in this topic again for fear of further criticism.
