Why no 2h axes?
You can’t just add weapons because they’d be “cool”…
So for your argument to be anything valuable, you need to:
- Establish a niche for it
- Give the same treatment to every other weapon
Afraid that I have to disagree. The only thing that a customer “needs” to do to be of value to the merchant that wants him to continue to be a happy service user (and payer) is express a desire. Of course the merchant might decide that the cost outweighs the benefit in any given situation but the value is still there in the customer’s interaction. If enough people are interested in the same thing, or a variant of it, the merchant may very well decide to attempt to meet that demand even if they already have a similar product on the market. This is an established and successful market strategy that some of the world’s most successful corporations use to this day. After all do we really need half a dozen reduced calorie colas from Pepsi ?
As to adding something because it would be, “cool…”
Of course you can. In a game about pursuing cosmetics, buying that cool thing that makes your character more enjoyable (and worth spending money on), and so on there really isnt a better reason to add something than because a large number of players might be willing to pay for some cool factor.
Get in the que! :P
We’ve waited for Pole-arm/Spear/Halbeards etc, for a lot longer. Seen so many games with great spear/Lance animations, and it makes me wonder wtf is keeping Anet from doing that in GW2. :/Cant say i remember many games with them in hunter had spear it in dark ages of camelot, armsman had polearm.
What other game then tera have a lancer class in them?Wow have the weapon skins but are treated the same as other 2h weapons
FFXIV has it.

I know FF14 has them. I played some random MMO once before joining GW2, the game was free to play but didn’t hook me too far (story-wise), other than the amazing detail they put to their weapons and skill animation. Never have I seen the likes of such detail and effects on weapon animations/effects, even in GW2. Wish I could remember the name.
Other than that you’d have to go to old or lesser known MMO’s for Lances and spears. Shaiya, Aion etc.
I just want to see how good they’d be in GW2. It just feels like they really should be in the game.
I am not saying i don’t like the idea, but can you imagine the skin different between 1H Axe and 2HAxe? Why not suggest to make ingame Axe a bit bigger ?
The Shortbow and Longbow already pushing its limit.
Note: I hate Anet make Shortbow is just a short version of Longbow
I wouldn’t mind a short bow getting an optional crossbow skin, but the animations would have to be re-done for certain skins. So that’s never gonna happen, and most people wouldn’t see the point.
The didgeridoo was a joke.
Because in all seriousness I’d love to see battle axes and land spears/lances/javelins just like everyone else. If they came out I’d do a dance and throw a party (and money, at my computer) but that’s really about all we can say regarding the matter. “It would be cool” and, in the spear’s case, “the skins already exist.”
What I’d really like to see are more creative skins for different weapons. We already have things such as the anchor skin for a hammer, the scythe for a staff, and the slingshot for a shortbow. It would be tricky with some animations, but they could totally give us a whole plethora of new weapons just by applying unique skins to a pre-existing type:
Nunchucks (dagger)
Crossbow (rifle, pistol)
Flail (mace, hammer)
Oh, and I know this is talking skins instead of weapons, but we already have a katana, so where’s the wakizashi? Any Japanese history buff knows that all samurai carried both a katana and a wakizashi. That’s a good short sword or dagger skin right there.

Apart from a few new animations: what would 2H axe add to the game that isn’t already there? I mean, do you see a missing mechanic due to 2H axes not being implemented?
It would add a 2h melee condi weapon to the warrior, thats what they are missing atm considering their only other melee one is 1h sword x2
So halvorn now when I have answered your question do you see a reason for why 2h axe would be missing from the game?

I’d use a 2h axe if it were available just cause they look cool. No other reason, purely cosmetic. Don’t really think devs should waste any time implementing them though.
Don’t forget that weapons get skills along with them. So it’s not just for look.
2 hander axe would function differently from a hammer or great sword.
Alright here’s a solution to the two handed axe problem. Make it a skin that goes over the hammers. As it stands the hammers in the game are held like one would hold a battle axe. A two handed sword with an axe skin might work but doesn’t feel the same. It’s the only way we’re going to get two handed axes in the game. It might seem funny at first hammering down a foe with an axe but who’s going to complain? They will be dead and squishy.

This
2-handed axes would be too close to hammers anyways, just make them the same weapon.
We need polearms more than we need axes

-nunchucks i really don’t see working out too well for the same reason flail would work great for a mace skin.
-crossbow skin would need several animation changes to be viable. the slingshot is just the much better alternative.
-and the flail would be such an easy yet interesting skin to pull off for the mace. just look at the silly sword and its wild animation, all of the chain based weapons like Spirit Links. The flail would be such an easy skin to pull off – just put the ball on the end as having weight and apply physics to it and the chain. with how the mace animations work they wouldn’t need to change any attack animations either.
They are adding new weapon for warrior anyways why not just make 2-Hand Axe cant be that hard

Yea new exsisting weapon as in main/off hand hand pistol off hand torch main/off hand dagger, not as your implying a entierly new weapon.
Methinks the OP has an axe to grind……..
I’m a bit baffled that they didn’t even introduce a greatsword (or hammer, really) with the model of an axe. Or a rifle with the model of a crossbow, changing the sounds for that one should be easily doable. shrugs
Your character holds the greatsword with his/her hands about 2 inches apart. With an axe? That looks utterly stupid.

No, shortbows (short self bows, at least) and longbows/recurve bows were used somewhat differently and had very different characteristics, based on draw weights and lengths (you can’t draw a self shortbow all of the way to your face, and their draw force was typically much lower).
Would LOVE that!
