Why the ecto salvage nerf?

Myself and everyone in the our guild noticed that some time ago ecto salvage drops have been nerfed to the ground. Any reason for this? It was unlisted as well in patch updates, and I am doubting it’s just a coincidence that 100+ people are seeing less ectoes for mass salvaging lv80 rares after dungeon/farming/fractal runs.
Cause now rares are becoming what greens were.
And noooo, it’s nooooot gear treadmill….

ProofWell, I don’t have any proof, but I use BL salvage kits exclusively on all my lvl 80 rares and out of the last 17 rares I’ve salvaged, I’ve gotten zero ectos.
Worst RNG run ever. Sometimes I used to get none, but that was rarely. Now, I get none every time.
If this keeps up, I’ll stop buying BL kits and just sell the rare for 25-30s and buy an ecto. At least I’ll be guaranteed one each time.
17 rares and 0 ectos, you must be doing something wrong.. And I rarely ever say that.. But there’s statistically almost no way that’s possible. Please see “BL salvage VS Master Salvage” thread.
If you seriously did 17 with 0 ecto and make it to 20 rares with no ecto, I would send a bug report..
Well, we’ll see today. I have 2 rares in my alt’s backpack, and I’m waiting on the Maw event to start. I’ll put these rares in the bank and have my main you has the BL salvage kits in her bags salvage them.
But yes, I seriously salvaged 17 rares with no ecto using nothing but BL kits. I’m a gem buyer. I don’t see the point in salvaging unless I’m using a BL kit.
If I salvage these next 3, and no ecto(s), then I’ll take your advice and put in a bug report.

I’ve had some bad ecto days and some really good ecto days. Today I got almost 2 ectos for each thing I salvaged. Made up for the lousy run I had for the last three days.
As others have said, RNG is RNG. There’s no evidence I can see of a nerf.

Are you absolutely sure that those rares were lvl68+?
Did you actually begin counting from the first time you got no ecto’s, or is 17 an estimate based on your feelings that it was a large amount?

I haven’t seen any nerf in ecto drops, just had 3 drop 3 times in a row.

I agree there has to have been some small ecto nerf, maybe 1+ month ago? I was getting at least 1 ecto per rare, and more often than not 2+. Now, i go a few salvages without even one.
Arenanet can tell us until they are blue in the face that there has been no ecto nerf, just like there was no problem with loot drops until they actually looked into it.

Hahaha yeah you guys don’t know how RNG works. I made 3g in 2 hours last night just by salvaging like 6 rares. With Mystic kits not BL.
Don’t buy BL kits.
Last 12 salvages yielded me 18 ectos, so I’m thinking things are OK.
I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

17 though just doesn’t seem right. I had to sit and watch each and every salvage and input into excel every single one. And not once did I see a string of 0’s from BL kit larger than 3, “maybe” 4. Granted there’s always range, but in 800 rares…
Also I don’t buy mine directly, I get Keys and most times end up with a few stacks of them. If you figure the price (300gems) and your 450/5 Keys got you even 1 salvage kit (25) your already ahead in terms of price. Not saying they are guaranteed, but just so you know so you aren’t spending too much ^^ On average though I would say 300 gems (maybe.. is 3-4g? haven’t logged in) should get you usually 20+ ectos, at 30s each is 6g? Correct me if I’m wrong, I seriously just woke up minutes ago lmao. So even buying outright should net you some gold PLUS the runes/sigils are garaunteed and some mats. If you are a fan of Mystic Forge you can toss them in, at 4s each sometimes even 1 good rune/sigil exotic gets you 1g+.
So you spent 300 gems for 25 salvages for 68+ rares, and you should get more than your moneys worth so long as your not in some sort of rut, or there’s a serious problem with your account for some reason, you should do well either way (BL chest chance-Outright buying).

I’m still averaging 5e/3r using the mystic kits. Granted that’s only across 50’ish rares.

What I am interested in is the pool ratio between the different ammount of ecto that one can get per salvage. I’m sure it is not all equally divided, AND, I’m sure ANet will not disclose this information – which makes me think something may be suss.

yeah, no change as far as I’ve seen. 50 BL charges got about 70 ectos this month, pretty normal.
