Why there's no LFG 7m after launch
Didn’t you hear? It would ruin the community!
Actually I don’t know of a single game that had a lfg system at launch… They mostly add them later.
And there is no need, your blind rage and hatred for the efficient, effective, simple, and convenient lfg tool available doesn’t make it any less of those things.
I think it would be awesome if we had a dungeon finder or even a fractal finder where it matched you with people of even level for fractals.
They’d rather Lions Arch and FoTM ruin the community and other region population.
And there is no need, your blind rage and hatred for the efficient, effective, simple, and convenient lfg tool available doesn’t make it any less of those things.
blind rage and hatred? learn to read, I’m simply saying that there’s no reason for a game that’s 7 months old, released by a company that MAKES MMO GAMES to not have a party system.
I’m not even asking for a LFG system like WoW, kitten no, I’m asking for the old “P” screen from Guild Wars 1.
You know, the MMO
That this company made
Seven Years ago.
INB4 “find a guild”
Actually I don’t know of a single game that had a lfg system at launch… They mostly add them later.
Took WoW 5 years from launch to implement one, I remember when they did.
I can see it not being top priority in this game, it’s really easy to get a group.
gw2lfg.com is a good site
INB4 “find a guild”
I’m in a guild, that doesn’t mean that if they’re all busy I should be left out of the equation XD
A game designed to be social needs a decent LFG tool, note that LFG tool and “random group insertion and teleport” are very different things.
Why has it taken so long is a lot easier to work out though, look at the cross server guesting – how long ago did they roll that out and would you consider it finished enough? There is a soft pre-requisite for that to be sorted for a good LFG to actually work…
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.

If you played GW1, you’d realise that it’s not that hard. transferring servers could be done within the world, party search was an actual thing, not (only) a spam in LA.
To jump in on this conversation, does anyone else successfully use /lfg?
Every time that I’ve popped up /lfg I have a 5 man within minutes. Now, I will say that I get it! If you want to run a specific dungeon over and over again, /lfg is not the best way to go about it. The way I use /lfg is to get a full group and then see what people are up for. We might farm, chain champs, run dungeons, or hop into someone’s story.

Just because other games took a long time to get them doesn’t mean it should be like that for newer games. Not only is that an invalid argument but it also says terrible things about the game developers you are trying to defend. The goal for them should be to learn from other games to make their game as successful as possible but if they have to relearn all of the lessons that other mmos had to learn then they are incredibly ineffective and inefficient.
Why must there be an site to replace something where the game failed about?
The site itself shows how something external like it is soo needed to find suitable groups for do our things.
A LFG System would ruin the community? You must be CRAZY, spending hours sometimes to find suitable groups for some dungeons / story modes, etc… Is still a reality, with that site or not.
Fractals itself shows how the game Failed in don’t have one, before the update it was a NIGHTMARE to get a party to do our level.
Soo in some people words “Let’s not have a LFG System! Let’s all use external websites that adds functions that the game itself doesn’t have!!!”
Asura thing.

Since this game turned out to be a supreme disappointment after Guild Wars 1, I take that a step further and play other games. They add the function of “fun to play” which this fails at.

Did they remove the option of pressing Y then selecting your status as looking for group, which then gives you a small icon above your head? That was there at launch, has it gone now?

Still there, still provides no indication of what you want the group for, still entirely useless in Lion’s Arch.
But I know that they are working in remake the LFG System.
I only Hope they really remake it… And not just add some “shiny” things to make it pretty.
Some systems made in the actual game in last updates look like things that were done “without enough time” that seem to be a bit…. scratched.
Asura thing.

Don’t make assumptions – for all you know I may have been a key dev on GW1, or that GW2 is an entirely new software package…
I had Clippy in office before and as such Clippy should be trivial to include in every office like package forever – because software!
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.

Looks like this is going to be a trending topic for the next week or so … so instead of repeating myself, I’m just going to point at my sig that I had for the past month or so.

For general pve you dont really need one

Indeed. Many players dont even know wth that icon is for, nor where the current failed LFG tool is in the interface because its been buried by the bad UI layout. The game badly needs a working cross server LFG tool as standard. Those saying “but we dont need one, we have Gw2lfg.com” are missing an essential point; You dont NEED legendary weapons, you dont NEED full ascended gear, you dont NEED a TP. But the game has them because these are staples and standard features of an MMO title. By the logic of that statement we would have no advancement of anything since we dont “need” it.
Its absolutely required to be in the game itself. No iff’s, but’s, and’s or maybe’s.

I know there is a third party option… can you just fill me in on the privacy and security implications of visiting some third party site rather than repeating yourself all week?
I can see why it is delayed, agree it is needed, but do not accept that site as a solution (work around with unknown risk at best).

How many times I need to beg help arround to do a story mode… —’
REALLY.

gw2lfg exists, therefore it’s not a huge rush. get groups in no time – and anet are working on implementing a similar upgrade to the existing lfg system.

Sure there are some disclaimers to keep note and I’m not sure if I want to repeat myself on that as well.
As such the use of 3rd party websites to get 1st world problems done is not officially supported by ArenaNet. If you have an issue with a 3rd party website, you need to take up your issues with the webmaster of such website.
The other option, which I also mention occasionally is to join a guild with people who also like to run dungeons.
Likewise, I do agree that there needs to be some improvements in the LFG department. There are days when I can’t always rely on my guild to do content that I’d like to complete.

You didn’t even read the OP did you? The point is why Anet are relying on an external website to provide core game function for them.
Because it works. They didn’t even have official forums for ages because it was provided by the community, you don’t need to make redundant things.
The problem with relying on a completely barebones external website is that it makes the game look cheap.
I honestly love the LFG website and I don’t really feel that we are suffering from a lack of an in-game dungeon finder. Sure, you have to alt-tab out of the game to use it (maybe not if you have dual display), but it’s extremely efficient at forming groups when combined with GW2s self-invite features and cross server grouping. People who want to even have the luxury of being able to form specific kinds of groups. Take for example the typical CoF farming groups. Whether or not you are a fan of that style of dungeon play, it’s hard to argue that being able to recruit groups easily based on what you are looking for is a bad thing. That’s something you are not likely to get with an in-game system. At least not if it would be anything like what I’ve experienced in other games.

So you think it’s completely fine for a AAA game launch to be lacking core features that some other guy had to make a website for?
Yep, it’s fine.
Yep, it’s fine.
You are aware that such a site (out of game game services, not LFG specifically) has been used before, not by its creators but by a third party (gold sellers) to target groups of players for attack/exploit?
Again I can see some reasons why it might be taking a while, but that doesn’t mean I need to advocate some potentially dodge site.

Care to expand and apply to gw2lfg in particular? You said not LFG particularly, but why would this be applicable then to this case of LFG?
I fail to see how tried and true tested methods of targeted browser based exploitation cannot apply.
Do you have Java? Does gw2lfg have SSL? If you can find where people you want to target “group” you have an additional vector… not rocket surgery.

Devs (I think robert) said they’re working on it just a few weeks ago.

I’ll believe that when I see evidence of that in game.

The automobile windshield wiper was a needed feature on cars. Now it comes standard on all modern cars. I can’t remember the last time I saw an automobile manufacturer say “This new model doesn’t have windshield wipers, but take this rag and hold it out the window and wipe it off when it rains. We’ll design the wipers at some point in the future and install them then”.
If this seems ok to you as a consumer, I’d like to build and sell you your next house.

This leaves me speechless…..

Oh thank god, I thought it was only me who had that reaction.
This is just basics ANet.
It’s been half a year.

I wish people would stop referring to that site whenever it’s brought up that a decent in game LFG is needed. It’s become a flimsy shield some people hide behind and act as if it’s a perfectly adequate excuse. It’s not however, so I wish people would stop.
If you’re at a guest house and notice the toilet isn’t fully functional, then the owner replies, “why would you want to use a toilet when there’s a perfectly fine backyard just outside your room”.
Would that be acceptable as well?
Sure, a backyard might seem alright to get your business done, but it’s not the right way to go about your situation. I’m sorry, but I’m ANet’s guest in Tyria. And if I’m a guest at a place, I see nothing wrong with inquiring that everything is in maintained and in working order.

GW1 wasn’t really an MMO. More like just an online action RPG (and that’s it).
Nextly, we have a workaround for this: gw2lfg.com
As long as we have something we can work with, I’m not complaining. There does need to be a LFG system ingame however, asides from the useless, functionless one that’s in the friend panel.
Azjenco.9425:If you’re at a guest house and notice the toilet isn’t fully functional, then the owner replies, “why would you want to use a toilet when there’s a perfectly fine backyard just outside your room”.
Bad analogy.
A better analogy is if someone who doesn’t own the house makes their own toilet (or brings in a portapotty).
I just think that there’s a lot of other things on the table right now with higher priority.
Like culling, performance improvements to make culling a thing of the past, rekindling the sPvP scene with better infrastructure, fixing the problem of condition stack limits getting in the way of groups with high condition damage, among other things.
The combination of gw2lfg.com, spamming in Lion’s Arch, waypointing to dungeon entrances to look for group members and now guesting works well enough at the moment.
OP has no idea what he’s talking about. Facts:
1/ GW1 didn’t get a grouping tool until almost two year into the game.
2/ The GW1 grouping tool didn’t even function well for grouping … it was mostly a trading tool or for specific farms
3/ A.net wants to do this right, so either a good tool or none
4/ GW2lfg.com does the job just fine. Are you asking for an in-game spidy, dragon timer, gold farm maps, youtube … too?
The fact is, a game this big will be supported by the community, and that means a.net can
- focus on more important things, since for all intents and purposes the lfg problem is fixed
- work on making a really, really good lfg tool instead of a half baked one like in gw1
I see that as positive things. And while you can rage all you want about the lack of a grouping tool … the simple fact is that this grouping tool exists, it works and there’s no need for you to rage. Without mods, WoW is a broken game, yet I never saw anyone rage about the perceived need to use add-ons…
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
Couldn’t agree more with the OP.
Bad analogy.
A better analogy is if someone who doesn’t own the house makes their own toilet (or brings in a portapotty).
So, you think it’s fine for clients to pay for a service and then need to do their own work to make up for the problems? If you see no problem there when it comes to customer service then you have very low standards. And I’m sorry to say, you should stay away from such practices. The analogy works perfectly fine, as it refers to a lacking in the structure that needs to be filled.
Analogy aside though, for some inexplicable reason there are people who think it’s fine that there’s a gaping hole left within the game, but think it’s in bad taste when people ask ANet to fill it, soon.
GW1 had a perfectly functional LFG tool, light years ahead of the inexcusably piece of crap we have at the moment. Why they didn’t just replicate the same tool for the sequel is very odd.
Hey OP, can you list all the AAA MMOs that had an LFG at launch. Cause I’m having trouble thinking of any.
