Will there be a second LS season?
Personally I like the living story. It’s not perfect and I think it could still use some work, but still like it. I find it amusing, and it makes for some interesting fan fiction. (What, you people think the devs are the only ones that can write a story? Hmph)
With the end of season one, several options are opened to the devs. They could end season one by leading into the next personal story sequence, and it’s associated dragon. Season two could then run concurrently with the new dragon story, and eventually lead into the third dragon. Or, they could wait until season 2 is in progress before even hinting at the next dragon, having the 2nd season entail the actual reconnaissance for determining which is the next biggest threat and determining how to go about the offensive.
Factoring in the effects of Scarlet, I could probably go into 2 or 3 more options, but we’ll wait an see I guess. Please note I said ‘effects.’ Everything has cause and effect, some of her ‘effects’ may still be rippling out into the world as yet, even if she may no longer be an active antagonist after the end of season 1. TV series do it all the time… ie, an event in season 1 takes ‘x’ additional season to see all the ripple effects.
Anywho, I do hope they continue with living story. It will be interesting to see where they go with it.
I like the Living Story, and can’t wait for ‘Season 2’. =)
I strong believe that there will have a LS season 2, season 1 was the Scarlet arc, the devs/writers learned what they can do, how the players react and so on, so I’m very optimist about the season 2.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Considering the Living Story seems to be their name for any and all PvE updates I think it’s inevitable that there will be more of it. The alternative is to stop doing updates for anything except bug fixes and balance issues. But I don’t think we should assume that ‘season 2’ is going to be just like what we’ve seen so far.
Remember when the first couple of Flame & Frost updates came out and people were asking if that meant the Living Story would be all open-world achievements and Anet had to reassure us that wasn’t the case?
Then that chapter came to an end and people were saying all Living Story releases would be a series of open-world achievements leading to a dungeon. And again Anet had to say no, that was just what they did the first time and the others would be different.
Same idea here. Just because season 1 was a lead villain instigating a series of seemingly unrelated attacks around Tyria doesn’t mean season 2 will follow the same pattern. It could be similar, it could be something totally different.
All we know at this point is that the Scarlet/random alliances storyline is coming to an end and something else will replace it later.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The Living Story concept isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, like it or not.
And really, it cant go anywhere but up after Season 1. And the Tower updates have improved by leaps and bounds over the previous ones.
2013 and the LS’s first season were a year of learning for ANet. I remember them saying they wanted 2013 to be a year of quality of life improvements(which they id) and not just new content. 2014 is here for that. I’m really optimistic for Season 2 By the end of 2013 I saw two things that they implemented and made the world a bit more alive:
1- The foreshadowing stuff in Kessex Hills, deforestation etc.
2- The change in Kessex Hills, the Hearts being updated to reflect the ToN aftermath, along with 2 waypoints being removed and the quaggan village to the north gone with Quaggan refugees around Kessex.
I’m sure they’ll start expanding on that and improving everything. GW1 had ANet’s “magic” for the atmosphere, the lore, the story, the immersion and I do not believe, and have NEVER believed that it was suddenly gone. Sure GW2 aims to be more “universal” and casual etc, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to put everything GW1 is known for aside. I gave them a year to learn, I’ll even give them a bit more if needed, but I’m sure Season 2 will be much better, and from their, it can only improve.
They had a new/heavily modified game engine, a new concept, a whole new world, and I see people whining about it(not directed at OP) just after 1 year of experimentation. I’m sure GW2 will live up to its manifesto.
Yes, I want to see a Second Season. I love the LS and the story so far. It’s kept me very interested in this game for nearly a year now. I still recall fixing sign posts nearly around this time last year.
