Some of you may have noticed that words are very important to me. And indeed, they are. Words are what I’m all about. But when communicating on a forum, words are all we have. There’s no inflection in text. No tone of voice. And some words, which are used quite frequently, I believe have no real place on this forum.

Words like fanboi, or white knight are used to discredit people who like something about the game. Words like hater or whiner are used to discredit people who don’t like something about the game. None of these words encourage open discussion.

If you have a point contrary to another person, address the point, not the person. I try not to use words like hater or whiner when I reply to people, and I’m pretty sure I haven’t. I try to argue an idea, without painting people into a corner.

I think the forums would be a lot better off if these terms were abandoned altogether. No one should belittle people for not liking a game. No one should belittle people for liking it.

Let’s discuss the issues…not each other.
