[ TL;DR Colour rotation good; alternative pure PvE version of maps better. ]

The colour rotation (not randomization) suggestion does seem like it would provide pretty much what the completionists (myself included) want without materially changing the current state of WvWvW play.

However, given the stories of long WvWvW queues on some servers, it really does seem commercially foolish to encourage PvE players to use up slots: that’s just going to annoy everyone. I really quite liked the idea someone else here (or was it one of the myriad other threads?) came up with to have pure PvE versions of the maps, populated by PvE mobs.

Anet could add DEs, perhaps related to the battlefield flavour of the maps. The JPs would yield the achievement but only PvE loot — no blueprints, badges, etc. That would get non-contributors out of WvWvW, would not provide any underserved WvWvW benefits, and would not materially change acquiring a Legendary (since badges would still be needed).

(For the record, I suck at PvP: I’m underlevelled, undergeared, and – most importantly – underskilled. But I nevertheless gamely try my best to contribute while ever so slowly racking up my Map Completion. But frankly, I’m still just a liability to my team since I’m using up a slot a better, more committed WvWvW player could be using.)

I’m actually quite stunned at the lack of understanding from the PvP people commenting on this issue. Personally I dislike PvP because I have no need or desire to prove myself better than others. I like having established goals that “I” can achieve on my own. The more difficult, the better. I’m fine with groups doing meta events. Groups can be lots of fun. That doesn’t mean I object to PvP. If that’s your thing, I’m glad it’s in the game.
What doesn’t seem to be getting through though is this is forced PvP. After Treherns Personal Story fiasco it’s pretty clear the advertising for this game could have been clearer. Many people will never complete the world map just like Treherns personal story. That’s fine. If your going to try to force PvP though, remember… It would be a rather simple thing to organize people from PvE to join in the fun of mass suicides in WvW, effectively destroying the WvW game. This is everyones game. Why not treat it that way.

I mainly play WvW, but can enjoy some pve content once or twice. The biggest problem for me is how incredibly easy it is to get the pve achievements, compared to the WvW ones. Those will not be achieved in a lifetime, or eight for that matter. This leaves the general WvWer kinda hardened and immune to “I don’t wanna” or “I have waited for weeks!” arguments.
You can have the map completion for completing the intro movie for all I care. It doesn’t affect me in any way, unlike, say, ascended gear. But we whine about that the same way PvErs do about this.
If they excluded www from map completion and allowed www to get ascended gear without having to PvE to death, I doubt anyone playing WvW would argue.

So yeah, split WvW from PvE for all I care, just be fair about it.

Even though I’ll never understand the pairing of the PvE World Map and the WvW maps and calling that Map Completion (and not including PvP), it would be an acceptable compromise to just place the POI’s all outside the castle’s so you’re not forcing someone to pray that they find a group large enough to take over a castle/keep you need just so you can pick up a POI.

Still not a great solution, but if we’re going to be forced into WvW (which is not playing the way some of us want to play) to get Map Completion, at least make it possible to solo so it’s not a group dependent thing.

I agree with WvW maps being included in map completion, I also have no problems with the 500 badges, hell it could be 1000… What really bugs me is that the bloody poi’s are inside Garrisons and keeps… This wouldn’t be to bad if matchups rotated more frequently, but we’ve been fighting Vizunah since january, and they’ve been green like 90% of the time… there was a brief spell where Seafarers took their place, even though I’m still convinced VIZ took a break. How the hell are you going to take a garrison in EB from 1000000 angry french dudes.

I agree that WvW shouldn’t be part of world completion. That being said, if I had to list what I thought were the top five most commonly repeated thread topics, I’d say this would be somewhere in that list. This topic comes up very often. Does anyone know if there has ever been a red response on any of them? When a topic comes up as often as this one does, and often has a broad (and passionate) base of support, I’d guess the development team would want to weigh in with a response?

I would love to hear a rational response from either Anet or anyone for that matter on how it makes any sense whatsoever to include WvW maps into the PvE map completion achievement.

Ok, this is an easy one. In fact, it’s so obvious that i’ve got to assume you’re just trolling. But well: Your servers performance in WvWvW gives you buffs on your PvE endeavours. Wether those are useful or not, WvWvW & PvE are OBVIOUSLY linked. Same character, equipment and COMBINED PvE dailies are further hints. sPvP on the other side, is completely separated (new char, equip, dailies, …). This was mentioned (more or less) already in this thread, so i assume you still won’t get it.

But seriously, stop whining, it won’t change a thing. You can’t expect to get something for “free”, while others “had” to do it. Though maybe ANet should decide to let the World Completion Achievement expire, this would also solve the problem. Won’t be unfair either, i’m sure there are lots of people who don’t have that silly halloween clocktower achievement. Also there was plenty of time to explore the WHOLE world.
