I consider the hour pretty generous (even if it is annoying) …. better than a message that the system is restarting in 5 minutes. It would be nice to be able to rearrange things but I do not have a good suggestion of how to do that with all the moving pieces.

Last patch note say fix a server crash. Should Anet not fix crash and wait for next day?

They should test their patches themselves, instead of testing them on us.

The live server environment would be different than the test server environment. So when the patch goes live, sometimes things will happen that don’t happen on a test server. This happens in every single game with test servers, btw, not just Guild Wars 2.

We have a mega server system. Even if they have hundreds of people testing the game (I have no idea how many do test), that means there will only be a certain number of servers spawning.

When it goes live and there are 10,000 players or more playing at one time, you’ll get more servers spawning and if the bug happens only then, only then can they fix it.

That excuse only works for some of the issues. Most of them are ones they should be able to catch themselves. There was even one time killing someone in PvP caused everyone to crash.

And you really think that happened on the test server and they shipped it anyway? I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that that sort of era categorically didn’t happen on the test server, because that kind of game breaking bug would have had to have been quashed before shipping.

Yes, bugs do get through, but the worst of them get sorted out early on. There are other things that are obviously missed, because A) testers are human andthey’re probably on a pretty short review schedule.

You know, X hours to test something and then test the next thing is my guess.

Absolutely nothing in the game should take more than 1 hour to complete. Sorted.

We’re sorry about any inconvenience that you experienced with the bug fixes and related restarts. We had some significant issues that we needed to address. Better to have a forced restart — as irritating as it may be — than have players unable to join the game, or locked on an endless loading screen, or having their refrigerator start spewing ice cubes whenever they enter Rata Sum.

Ok, I joke about the latter.

But seriously, we are sorry, it’s just a necessary thing to make the experience better for everyone.

Are you seriously ignoring the feedback?

It is simple. It was 3h before restart for like 3 year ,now it is 1h after HoT. Just increase restart timer 2h+ and everybody is happy.

Gaile isn’t ignoring feedback. She’s not a programmer. She’s a community liaison. Her job would be to bring this to the attention of devs, which presumably she did. She can’t make decisions to do or not do something. I’m sure there are hundreds of suggestions that the devs have to go through and schedule in time to fix.

How is her reply ignoring feedback?

My client must be broken, as I have only been offered 1 hour before restart in the Open World pre-HoT. The only time I was ever offered more time was in an instance.

Perhaps, as Colin remarked on, the length of the Metas in HoT will be adjusted. That would probably make most happier.

I would only hope that the invisible wall that breaks the devourer run guild rush in Diessa Plateau would be something they would notice in their private test server. Thing has to be useful for something right?

Those ppl knocking gaile – she has done a marvelous job in both gw1 and gw2 and is a highly respected member of the anet team by the community. Where others have failed she has stepped in and helped the players far more beyond the call of duty demands – which i assume many of the gw1 and gw2 community vets will agree .
As others have said – many mmo`s take servers down for a few hrs for updates and in my whole experiance of gw1 and gw2 theres only been 3 or 4 times we have had any downtime for an hr or more.
Yes being forced to restart can be a pain but think of the players who without the update are unable to join or play , and i bet the same players would be crying if at the end of their map it crashed and anet said – sorry we cant fix the map problem yet as players complain about updates . Ok you lose a few rewards but is it the end of the world ? What about the players who due to bugs constantly lose progress – is it fair to them to wait a few hrs so others can get rewards ?
Gaile regardless of what others think or say – keep up the gd work and you kno you have the support of your army of fans
