Hi there,

I am actually very satisfied with how HoT is right now (How dare I!?). I’d just like to reach out to the people who enjoy it and don’t feel like posting something.

Do it! Make a post about how you like the game, how you actually enjoy HoT and don’t let the forum get filled with whinners.

I know, I know, you’d rather be playing than posting. Just take 5 minutes of your time. You don’t have to spend hours here like the crying keyboard warriors.

So thank you Anet, I am really enjoying HoT.

It might not be perfect but when I log in, I get that “man there’s still so much to do” feeling and for me that is great. The maps look awesome and a big praise for the new soundtracks.

I love what they did with fractals.

Get to lvl 2 fractal mastery and you get access to a vendor that made it so much easier to hit that 150AR requirement for lvl 100. Farm the lower end fractals and stock up on relics, grab the +5’s, then upgrade them to +7’s later. Get a cheaper progression on the +1’ infusions.

Masteries added some really cool bonuses like gliding, shroom jumping, auto-loot, etc. I haven’t played the story yet, as I really wanted to progress it on a revenant. I’m gonna go through tonight and get my hero points for the mastery while leveling up my gliding, shroom jumping and exalted history so I can run through the story without any hold ups. I spent the last weekend grinding out my Tyria mastery stuff (and I do mean grind since I did it all in CoF, but that was 100% my choice so no complaints ^^)

I’m way excited about all of this. I’m probably leaving work in a few minutes so I can rush home and get to work on masteries and heroes. My plan is to have the prep work done by Thursday night so I can spend all weekend getting through the story and working on achievements in the coming weeks. All in all, I’m loving the new expac and have been giddy like a little school girl to try it out!

Aw that is a lovely thought. I haven’t actually tried the new zones yet but I am enjoying levelling up my Revenant and playing around with her skills. She is a lot of fun.

I forgot how pretty and how much fun the lower zones are and it is interesting watching the new players or reading the chat as they discover what a great game this is.

I a totally enjoying the new content. I have help capture 4 or 5 guild halls for friends and people that need help. Hardly doing Mad King events. Enjoying the flying and fighting. Contents is so different and never know what you are going to find. Well worth the cost.

I like it, however I just came to a bit I can only call platformy (Jumping/flying/gliding/etc) now I don’t like it.

And I can only describe it as frustrating and could be a rage quit moment.

If I wanted this I would have bought a platform game.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

I feel like a kid on christmas day: so many new toys, I really don’t know what to play with first.

Since I got off work Friday afternoon, I’ve taken my first character through the new story all the way to the third map, played a couple of other characters into the first expansion map, did a bunch of fractals with different friends, registered our guild at the guild initiative and checked out what to do to claim our guildhall, unlocked 7 of 8 elite specs (18 hp missing for the last one) and their respective weapon collections, played a few rounds of Mad King’s labyrinth, unlocked some of the new collections, found a new pet for my ranger, and did a ton of other things.

I love navigating the new maps, and how they open up whenever you gain a new mastery. I love figuring out how to get to places, and what to do there. I love jumping and flying, even if it means having to try a bunch of times before I get the jumps right or hit the correct updrafts. I love the feeling that there’s sooo much yet to discover, and that there’s new stuff around every corner.

This was probably the first weekend in ages that I haven’t really checked forums or other games at all, because I was too busy trying to do everything at once . I even got up extra early this morning (horay for the end of daylight savings time) to get to work at 6:15 so that I may go home early this afternoon to keep on playing. Now if only time would pass as quickly at the office as it does when roaming the jungles …

10/10 for sure. If it’s too hard, I’m too weak. Worst Thing about the Xpac is logging in, and thinking about what I should do first for 15 minutes.

The Maps are the most beautiful I’ve every witnessed in a MMO. Hands down. The story went from vanilla-kittening-boring-I-just-have-to-do-because-it’s-my-story to what-the-kittening-did-this-just-really-happen-oh-my-god and I, as a lore fan, can’t say it loud enough how much I enjoy this story so far.

Enemys are fun, glidding is awesome and feels smooth, events are actually just a solid 7-8/10 for me, but hey, do I really even care about some events, when I’m able to glide?!
Tempest may not be the best new Elite-Spec but i actually find it fun to play my Tempest! Didn’t expect that!

Anet, if you are able to make an LS3, that is just 75% of the quality this Addon has, do it. Take you time. It will be awesome.

I really like the new maps, although they were a bit confusing at first, especially the third map. I was a bit annoyed that I can’t do the new content with the elite spec unlocked, but it’s not that bad and the progression is pretty smooth, IMO. Makes finding a hero point so much more rewarding too.
Being an open world PvP junkie, I spend pretty much all of my time in WvW. Think I’ve only done one chapter of the living story. But since HoT I’ve been doing almost nothing but PvE. Although I don’t really need any more HPs on my Chrono and I could easily get them in WvW, the kitten hero points have become like an obsession to me. I just have to find them!

I think people who are complaining about grind don’t enjoy the journey. If everything was handed to you the instant you hop into the new map, after a week the forums would be filled with “There’s nothing to do in HoT! I’m bored!” -threads. Comparing to other themepark MMOs, there’s no grind in HoT.

I was just thinking on my way from work whether or not I should dare to post. And then I found this.

Yes, I like the expansion. I am having fun trying to decipher the story. I am not grinding to get the masteries and the elites will come in their own sweet time. The environment is gorgeous and I am starting to learn my way around the first map. There is so much to see. I also love seeing old, familiar faces from the past and enjoy watching the NPCs bantering.

My worst complaint is that there is just so much to do and so little time. How can I choose? (That reminds me of a popular song from my youth.) All the new materials and crafting are confusing currently, but I am sure their secrets will be revealed soon.

It does make me a bit sad that I will not get to play all the stories. I can only hope people will post videos of the raids that actually show that part too. I am also not at all into fractals, they scare me too. But I don’t have to have everything. I am getting enough to entertain me for hundreds of hours. I consider this a bargain.

The problem is the people who like it are too busy playing to come here. I’ve barely been on the forum since HoT launched because when I have time to get online at all I’ll playing HoT and Halloween instead of posting about it.

I’ve seen a lot of very happy, very excited people in-game, it’s only on the forum that people seem mostly negative, but that’s always the case.

Why is it that people like you start off a new topic in a neutral, positive way to make the thread not a pain in the kitten, but need to drift away shortly after with flamebait words like “crying keyboard warriors”? That’s more or less ruining your whole inital matter of the topic and/or your impression.

I was actually going to pretty much state the same opinion, was there any need to refer to those who have a differing opinion from your own as a whiner? What are those who share yours? I have really been enjoying the new zones; all the events feel alive. I like how the specializations are gated behind the hero points. It gives me something to work for. I don’t feel the grind people keep talking about, but I haven’t been farming masteries or the hero points. I am waiting for them to come organically. I haven’t been rushing things and it has just been amazing. The only big complaint I have is not with the game, but the community has been so negative as of late.

I like the challenges in the jungle and the excuse to get guild members playing as a team rather than solo is awesome.
Revenant is just amazing. I’m just starting to map complete on it and train the elite spec up.
My small casual guild captured our guild hall on saturday. Lots of fun and chat we had over teamspeak while doing so. So even the most casual of guilds can get their halls up and running if we can :P

I like the new elite specs, I like getting T6 mats as rewards in Orr, I like gliding. New spec collections are a nice addition, since I was able to loot items all over Tyria while completing my HP.
New maps are gorgeous but I’m still trying to figure how meta events really work. SW meta event was quite obvious after one or two VW in comparison.

I’m not found of HoT masteries, since it’s locked within the new maps but I like the Tyria ones. I can’t wait to start my new legendary.

I’ll agree that it seems many of the players that are enjoying the expansion are too busy playing and having fun to come to the forums. I know this was the case with me at least and I only bothered to pop in just now during a break at work because I’m not able to access the game here, naturally.

Although I am a very very big fan of the lore of the Guild Wars universe and have sunk hours upon hours outside of the game just reading about it . . . I felt as if the story presentation of GW2 was rather poor, honestly. While on paper the story sounded interesting, it suffered from never achieving any real drama and I never felt like the stakes were high, even at the culmination of the Claw Island chapter. Even the Living Story events were hit and miss, although Season 2 was certianly significantly better than the base game.

That being said, I’ve made it through several story chapters in HoT and have so far been blown away by the difference in storytelling. Not only is the gameplay for the story segments more varied and satisfying, but the writing itself is fantastic. I wouldn’t be exaggerating to say that I feel that the storytelling in HoT is significantly better than any other MMO I’ve tried (including the big ones).

In terms of gameplay, I do have one major complaint – I miss my glider every second of every minute of every hour spent outside of Maguuma haha. The Maguuma maps are so vast, intricate and beguiling that I sometimes feel as if I’ve really stepped into a different game, a feeling that is no doubt boosted by the wonderful Action Camera mode (seriously, it’s amazing). I cannot heap enough praise onto the developers right now. I even sit as an outlier in that I LOVE that I took the time to scale to the canopy in Verdant Brink to go after a hero challenge, only to be knocked back to the ground by an unexpected Champion. So far, I’ve managed to solo about 3 of the champion hero challenges between Verdant Brink and Auric Basin and each time it came down to using different skills, mechanics and builds that I would have before – this is exactly what they said to expect.

Honestly, again I know I’m an outlier here, but after almost years of doing map completion and not feeling challenged or fully engaged in the game anymore, HoT has fully brought me back. To me there isn’t even a particularly obnoxious grind, as I really don’t want to be reduced to not having anything to work toward in the coming weeks beyond Legendaries. I would have been concerned if I had been able to fly through my masteries too quickly this weekend.

As for the Elite Specs, I see absolutely no problem with requiring 400 hero points to unlock them because most players should reasonably have completed at least a sizable chunk of map completion in Tyria by now. Granted this doesn’t apply to people who have only picked up the game in the past few months, but I stand by the opinion that rushing to get to Maguuma isn’t the best idea in those situations, anyways.

Suffice it to say, I’m extremely pleased by this expansion so far. As much of a fan as I am of the ANet team and despite my experience with the betas, I never expected the quality of the content to be quite this high. Even certain elite specs I was iffy about are performing admirably on the field. Kudos to the developers and thank you all kindly.

It’s only now on a Monday that the positive reviews are seeping in, simply because we spent majority of our weekend enjoying the expansion and using every spare second we had playing the game. The fact that we have obligations to go to work ( have to pay the mortgage somehow ) finally focus our attention to the forums, and I am legitimately surprised by all the multiple negative threads. Usually if something is so awful it can be seen multiple times in the map chat before is surfaces on the forum.

I love the expansion well worth the money.
