Ok so what scroll(s) are there that can be falsified? Or thought of as fake?
Lemark is carrying a cylindrical case, to protect whatever he was trying to steal. And this paticular item is something that was copied and faked, but now he has the original. I am thinking scroll of some sort, but the only other scroll item aside from scrolls of knowledge is the Ancient Scroll focus….
Or the first item might be the Eldtrich Scroll.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eldritch_Scroll
It’s used to make pretty…‘spiritual’ weapons, I guess? It costs 50 skillpoints so it’s not that cheap.
Yeah, that seems to be the consenses. But for some reason it doesn’t seem to fit. But I could just be over tinfoiling it…
So that would mean we are with Eldritch Scroll(s) and Mystic coins. “Two blocks to go” could actually mean, as John said, that only 2 items have been hinted at/acquired and that he only has 2 more to get.

My bet is still on Elonian Wine though! It’s Zommoros’s favourite. It’s from Elona(heritage), it’s powerfull in high quantities…too many clues that fit imo.
What if the Ghostly and sinister refer to one of the Ascalon Catacombs reward weapons?
Think about it…. Ascalonians are very proud of their heritage.
He said he only hinted at 2 components.
Right.
So we know 1 hint is a Item from merchants
Ghostly
Zommorors likes it
Reflection
Important to historySo 1 item is either merchant item that is ghostly and shiny or just ghostly and important while the other is coin/crystal/wine
You can buy this —

— from a grawl merchant after the event that requires magical blocks of ice.

That fits too…
so Eldritch Scroll and Mystic coins/Elonian Wine.
Whats getting me though, is that the item is “a bit too everyday” and “inspired rage” due to their sensitivity to their heritage. So I rule out Ascolonians, and Elonians, as both peoples tend to be very proud of their heritage, while being sensitive about it strongly implies something they are ashamed of, and don’t like to be reminded of it.
3.5-4 Story continues:
(2 days later)
Lemark sprinted down the alleyway, an endeavor likely to leave one examining refuse closer than generally preferable, but this wasn’t his first time. He slowed for a moment to glance behind him, merchants still chasing with guards closely behind them. He was surprised they hadn’t given up, they must be very sensitive about their heritage here, the item itself was a bit too everyday to inspire this kind of rage. “Two more blocks”, he thought to himself, double-checking the sealed, cylindrical case he carried. His attempted thievery had failed, for today, but he wasn’t going to lose what he had to the muddy waters of the bay.edit 5:
Lemark was in high spirits, it had been a productive week. After a series of failures his luck had turned. He stared at his own reflection in the item, such a trivial thing by itself, but with many, there was power. Zomorros knew it as well, Lemark had seen the desire in his eyes before, this was one of his favorites.
Based on the shape, I would think maybe elonian wine or eldritch scroll but because it says “with many, there was power” I think that rules out the scroll since the recipes we know of only require 1 scroll. I can’t imagine the scroll is very reflective either. The wine fits since it has elonian heritage and is also an every day item and some known recipes do require multiples. It’s also shiny.
Another thing it might be is a mystic coin, though I’m not sure what heritage they have. Coins can be stacked to form a cylindrical shape, so perhaps the case for was the coins?
Something I realized though is that while some of these items may have heritage, their heritage is not that of Lion’s Arch so it doesn’t make sense why everyone would be as angry as they were.
(edited by Aguri.2896)
So… I dont think the hint is for the 2 items of Coins/Wine/Crystal and Scroll…. 90% all recipes uses them anyways…. why would he give us a hint with things almost every recipe already uses…..
edit 6:
Lemark sat back against the rocky wall, brackish water rained down from one geyser or another. “What am I even doing here?” he thought for the thousandth time. He was exhausted, bloody and sore. “One of these alien curs is going to kill me before I’m done with this”, he grumbled to himself as he stood up and stretched. He needed a drink, but the day hadn’t grown cold yet, he still had time. His resolve hardened, one more attempt, he stared at yet another dulled blade, one more chance for results…this wasn’t going to be fun.

SSC?
Rereading all the clues, made me throw the idea of ghostly doubloon out of the script and rethink. So, now that we know it’s an alley? I’m wondering if it’s:
Junker’s Apex, Black Citadel - Junker’s Scrapyard
East Lurk Alley, Divinity’s Reach - Eastern Commons
JoAnna is a little girl found in a dark alley just to the west of Defender’s Field, within the Stronghold of Ebonhawke.
I wonder if this gives people any ideas or clues.
Oh no! I hate Karkaq.q
3rd item: Karka shells?
Sounds like a karka blade
Ok lets try something different….
One of the items can a) be bought from a merchant, b) is expensive, c) is “sinister…ghostly” d) “a bit too everyday” e) is “wierd to hold” f) fits into a cylindrical case g) “inspires rage” due to is connection to a people that are sensitive about their heritage. h) is something that Zommoros loves, i) Is something that can be “lost” or taken away.
Maybe these clues are not sequential, but the clues are tied in to each other.
So what is expensive, that we hold on to, but don’t like to as it just takes up inventory space, but don’t want to get rid of, zommoros loves, and is in a cylinder shape?
Mystic coins fit into that catagory, and I think we all can agree on that. Elonian Wine does seem to fit, but then it’s not something that is “everyday” and we really only get it when we need to. Eldritch Scrolls also fit, but don’t work in the same way. I would think minis….but he said that it doesn’t invlove minis. I am so perplexed….I love it!!!
edit: posted before I saw latest clue

His resolve hardened, one more attempt, he starred [sic] at yet another dulled blade, one more chance for results…this wasn’t going to be fun.
This could mean that whatever the recipe ends up being, it will only have a chance to drop the item.

This sounds like harvesting tools, going after something with a low drop rate: passion flowers.

I’m pretty sure that the ghostly/sinister/weird to hold item is not the same item as the cylindrical item since it was implied the first item had already been obtained, while Lemark was only beginning to try and obtain the second item 2 days later.
Elonian Wine does seem to fit, but then it’s not something that is “everyday”
From a story telling viewpoint it is though. A lot of people drink wine, some drink it every day.
I’m thinking #3 is a material, so like Passiflora or something.
Hm…
Eldritch Scroll
Mystic Forge Coin
Orichalcum Dagger Blade
And…?
Item one I don’t really know, other than the above suggestions of wine or scrolls (item one isn’t reflective, item two is). Item two sounds very much like the coins.
Item three … is there anything special the karka queen drops?
So yeah, I gave up on this a long time ago, but the suspense is still killing me. Keep it up guys I gotta know what this is asap :p
I think the people who mentioned the passion flowers were right, there are a lot of details that point to it.

Proof of Southsun.

Since he stood up to stretch I would assume he wasn’t standing up prior, so it makes sense that he might be gathering something. The mention of a dull blade with one more “chance” for results also sounds like gathering (like when you only have 1 gathering tool left). Passion flowers have a chance to drop when gathering in Southsun cove, so it all fits.
The question is, how many do we need? I’m guessing 1 since there is no mention of Lemark possessing multiple flowers.
(edited by Aguri.2896)
I just checked and Karka Shells, Passion Flowers and Passion Fruit all combine with Mystic Coins in the forge (existing recipes use them.) However, none of them combine with Eldritch Scrolls. So if any of those are an item, scrolls are out.
Ancient Karka Shells don’t even show up in the forge.
(edited by Kalarchis.8635)
Does the day ‘grow cold’ in Karkaland?
^the reason he wasn’t standing is cos he was sitting down. text says so. He was resting, not gathering. Blades dull when you hit things like hard shells of alien creatures a lot.
Oh… how did I miss that? Oops.
Hmm… then karka shells also make sense. I really hope it’s not like 250 karka shells or something.
(edited by Aguri.2896)
Type in eldritch into google and it defines it as:
‘weird and sinister or ghostly’
Lemark says it feels weird to hold something so sinister..ghostly. Unless this is deliberately misleading, I think it’s pretty obvious the first item is the eldritch scroll.
The mystic coins literally say “one of zommoros’ favorites”. The crystals say loved. The elonian wines say nothing. Coins seem to be the best guess for the moment.
As for the dull blades clue, not sure yet.
There is no doubt in my mind that it is a passion flower.
But I can’t seem to find anything to throw in the MF with it, other than the ingredients for Infusions.
Who says it has to be Karka? For all we know are the ‘aliens’ not karka but wind riders or something? Also being in southsun doesn’t mean he search for something unique in there, he could just be looking for something “mundaine” like orichalcum, orbs, … . After all Southsun is the easiest lvl 80 area in the game, the others are further and more dangerous.

For a non-combat orientated character? yes. You want to go swimming with icebrood? Or perhaps you want to walk into the firestorm swarmed with undead?
(edited by Tim.6450)
so far i think the recipe goes: 1.Crystal, 2.Elonian Wine and 3.Passion Flower. The last piece has to be something we the players can wield or use right?
Passion Flowers are not compatible with either Crystals or Elonian Wine in the forge. So far the only guessed item they’re compatible with is Mystic Coins.
My taking on the matter…
1st item
– Expensive and sold by a merchant NPC / “the merchant had taken almost every copper he owned” (the reference to copper is merely to currency and not coin – confirmed in a post by John)
– Ghostly / “sinister…ghostly, it felt weird to hold”
– End of clues here / " his journey was one quarter complete."
2nd item
– Clues of the second item forcely start here / “3.5-4 Story continues:(2 days later)”
– Tried to steal from merchants, but unsuccessful / “merchants still chasing with guards closely behind them”
– He wanst expeceting so much rage for the crime / “item itself was a bit too everyday to inspire this kind of rage” / “such a trivial thing by itself”
– The merchants were located fairly close to the Mystic Toilet where he could throw the item / " “Two more blocks”, he thought to himself" (while running away)
– The merchants are located in Lion’s Arch / “muddy waters of the bay”
– Is a shynning item and Zomorros likes it / “He stared at his own reflection in the item…bla bla bla …Zomorros knew it as well …bla…this was one of his favorites”
– It’s an old item or at least with some heritage to the locals / “they must be very sensitive about their heritage here”
– After some grind he got the item / “it had been a productive week…bla…his luck had turned. He stared at his own reflection in the item”
3rd item
– Clues of the third item MAY start here / (because of the referrence by John that the previous posts were about 2 items only)
– Lots of a crafting component, where he spent a lot of time crafting / “he thought for the thousandth time. He was exhausted, bloody and sore” (of crafting)
– Reference to a crafting station in LA / “Lemark sat back against the rocky wall, brackish water rained down from one geyser or another” (geysers might also be a referrence to a craft of a weapon)
– the component is a blade and needs to be crafted/refined / “he starred at yet another dulled blade”
– Rare component / ““One of these alien curs is going to kill me before I’m done with this””
I’m assuming:
– One of the items, is a seasonal component, in this case, Halloween
– Another item, is a well known item we usually use in the MF (my guess Mystic Coin)
– Yet another item, is a weapon crafting component such as orichalcum GS/S/D blade and 250 of them.
– One of the 4 items is surely sold by an NPC merchant
– The seasonal component and the item sold by the merchant, might be the same item, and might be a purchasable recipe which we need seasonal tokens. (Not feeling sure its a “Gift”)
What do you guys think?
…W…what? Easiest? Are you kidding? Please tell me, that you’re kidding.

The creatures on that island are the most deadly monsters in the game. They’re one of the few mobs that have unique attack patterns and pretty high damage. It’s definitely not the easiest, no matter how you look at it. Might not be as populated (at times), but I’ve never had problems exploring the maps you seem to find ‘harder’.
Now, if you mean that it’s easier to run from monsters – maybe, but it highly depends on your build.

There are literal geysers in southsun cove. Brackish waters also fit this zone. Additionally, Karka are deep-sea creatures that look quite alien to Tyrian natives (I think they’ve even been explicitly described in such a way before). Karka permeate the island and have incredibly tough shells, something blades would dull and break against. Even if he’s not directly seeking out the Karka, it’s highly likely he would be forced into encounters and fight with them while on the island

This is again a player orientated view. The guy has no combat experience (he has to run a way from a group of merchants). The only tools he has, are his sneaking skills and running speed. So a less populated place is easier for him.
Here are a list of suggested items that I have tried to put in the mystic forge with the Passion Flower, with no luck:
Elonian Wine
Crystals
Eldritch Scroll
Bloodstone Shard
Augur’s Stone
Lesser Vision Crystal
Vision Crystal
Can anyone try putting a passion flower in the mystic forge with some of the AC reward weapons?
(edited by TheBlackLeech.9360)
John, I thought you were the head economist in this game (but I may be mistaken). Out of curiosity, why were you chosen to be the poster for this thread?
is it some way to make ascended settler’s trinkets
Flowers don’t work with any of the other suggested items and neither do karka shells. So either the other suggested items are wrong or those two items are wrong.
For the record, I also tried both the recipe and the actual potion of http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Recipe:_Ascalon_Ghost_Potion. Neither is a legitimate item for the forge.
Worth noting is that southsun is one of the few places with an actual named Bay. Though nothing with alleys (hint 2).
His resolve hardened, one more attempt, he starred at yet another dulled blade, one more chance for results…this wasn’t going to be fun.
While I think the theory of Karka Shells or some such is on the right track, the above seems to imply that it’s a rare drop in the zone. Karka Shells drop easily, but Lemark is talking about one more attempt and one more chance for results.
Which implies he hasn’t even gotten one of the item he’s looking for (and he only needs one).
And, conveniently, hours before the launch that changed the gold to gems screen…
1. Gift of Souls
2. 100 Mystic Coins
3. 250 Karka Shells
4. Superior Sigil of the Night
Can someone confirm this?
too bad empyreal fragments or bloodstone dust doesn’t fit the bill. We all probably have a metric tone and the dust looks like a cylinder
1. Gift of Souls
2. 100 Mystic Coins
3. 250 Karka Shells
4. Superior Sigil of the NightCan someone confirm this?
KArka shells will not go into the forge with the sigil, so no.

I like the way you interpret… It gave me the thought of this combination…
1. Gift of Souls
2. 100 Mystic Coins
3. 250 Karka Shells
4. Superior Sigil of the Night
based on so many things… dont ask
1. Gift of Souls
2. 100 Mystic Coins
3. 250 Karka Shells
4. Superior Sigil of the NightCan someone confirm this?
KArka shells will not go into the forge with the sigil, so no.
but they go with the gift? cuz if so its more than half the recipe done
I hope after the clues are given we play a game of “hot and cold”
1. Gift of Souls
2. 100 Mystic Coins
3. 250 Karka Shells
4. Superior Sigil of the NightCan someone confirm this?
KArka shells will not go into the forge with the sigil, so no.

No…. I’m not buying the gift just to experiment …. the easiest way was to check the sigil with the shells
I think there is a too much reading into the storytelling going on. Synonyms for eldritch include sinister and ghostly (in fact, the definition pulled up by Google is precisely “sinister or ghostly”). Mystic Coins are an everyday item, literally! They are a reward for daily achievements. Finally, I can’t think of anyplace on Tyria that has geysers outside of Southsun. Possible materials that come from karka, reef riders, and gathering include blood vials, venom sacs, karka shells, and passion fruit and flowers (junk items do not appear in the Mystic Forge).
Granted, John could be yanking our chains on this giving misdirected details, but I’m with Occam on this. Simplest answers are the best answers.
And as an aside, my experience with Mystic Forge recipes are that the compatibility highlighting is not an exact science. I have had many instances where the highlighting does not highlight items for which a known recipe does exist. The below screenshot is an example. Eldritch Scroll and Mystic Coins go with the Ancient Focus Cores to make the Mystic Focus, but its not getting highlighted. So the fact that Eldritch Scrolls, Mystic Coins, and those crafting materials don’t all get highlighted does not necessarily mean that they don’t form a recipe. I don’t know if this is bug or intended function (maybe John can provide some enlightenment on that).
