One more blast from the past: a GW assassin and some mix and match previews from back when we could still do that in GW2.

And I don’t mind the odd use of overcoat since its cold in them thar Shiverpeaks but there are just so many of them.

I love the overcoat on my Norn ranger, Aurora Wildborn. Hate it on my Charr engineer, Pyanfar Cherryh (she’s only 71 or 72 and wearing whatever armor that’s best, no skins, waiting until she’s 80 to get a look I want). I don’t really like it on my level 80 Sylvari thief, Dyvid Fernleaf, but tell myself he’s using it to hide all the stuff he’s managed to steal. Truth is I have several other level 80’s I’m working on getting their looks the way I want that I like better. Still if there were some jackets and not just skimpy vests all of my medium armor characters would probably be wearing them, or at least the Charr and the Sylvari.

Haven’t read it all .. so not sure if somebody already said it .. but the problem with medium armor are not the legs .. its the chest that always has the trenchcoat attached. Else there are a lot of nice leg pieces .. only chest there is not much than Krytan, T3 and Duellist.

Very, very happy to see a thread discussing this. Thanks all.

Sylvari T2 Cultural has a tailcoat that works reasonably well. It still flaps around a bit, but the two ‘tails’ taper in-line with the legs (making the effect look almost like no coat).

For a few silver its not bad. I’ve combined it with T2 leggings and TA boots (T2 and T1 boots weren’t matching well on the color schemes for some reason). But due to that I’ll probably keep any further Medium classes to Sylvari (I already have Engi, can’t play Thief due to my wrists, so just Ranger to try again).

Yes, I’ve been using the T2 Sylvari Nightshade Coat in conjunction with the Viper’s Leggings mini skirt as my “Town Clothes” replacement ever since the last Feature Patch. Still a leafy butt-cape that clips with the leg occasionally, but it looks casual and cultural at the same time. So for me it’s an acceptable workaround to trenchcoats. (Now if only I can find some footwear that doesn’t look like old army boots.)

As long as we’re showing some old GW1 favorites, here’s some female Ranger armor pieces I’d love to see make a comeback. The Luxon Top with the Elite Druid’s skirt were a great combo. Gives her a sorta “jungle girl” appearance, which still definitely qualifies as being a Ranger-type look.

Hmmm Luxon and Druid (elite). I’m sort of ‘meh’ on Luxon myself, but I’d like to see Druid again.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Yeah, I like that. Saw someone with that top back in the day and always meant to get one, but never got around to it. The other pic below shows a ranger with another ‘no crazy skull on one shoulder’ top. But those gloves… O_o

Don’t have the pointy hat. (Or sword and shield). Breanna Banana is a “traditional” bow Ranger for the most part.

Your problem here is that traditionally, rangers don’t really use bows. Nice try though!

Your outfit does look nice though.

Not even before guns were in common use? What did they use for ranged attacks then? Surely they didn’t melee everything.

Looks like we’ve picked almost the exact same look for our Sylvari thieves. Here’s mine, Skink Longleaf. I like this look for him though. He’s just a travelling Sylvari who enjoys seeing whats what and helping people out. The thing I like most about the coat is that the shirt underneath it looks like it could be a plain old cotton one.

sidenote: The coat skin is the exact same skin since I bought it from Tor. I just kept using it every time he picked up a new coat. He’s over a year old so it was “exoticised” well before the wardrobe.

Yes I like that coat but today I did some research and found where I could get the duelist’s chest piece (may go back to his coat though).

The game needs way more armor skins that doesn’t involve burning your wallet.

More leather pieces that are not kitten trenchcoats, more heavy leggings that are not tassets, more light pants that are not kilts.

Like, seriously. You can’t just do that. Add more skins, armor and weapon customization is probably one of the biggest things players care about, put your artists and modelers to work, and scatter new skins all over lower level zones, not just the kittening gemstore.

Seriously, the low level newcomers will love it.

It does kind of bug me how 90% of light legs are insanely billowy and 90% of medium legs are barely varied long pants. I wish they woulda mixed and matched a bit there. :/

Or words to that effect.

I have full Sneakthief for my Norn Thief at the moment, mainly because I haven’t bought/earned the Krytan set yet (was hoping it would go down in price during the sale, but no dice) Human Engi is magitech, which I think is the best set for an enginner, though I’m thinking of replacing a couple pieces (namely shoulder and gloves) with the HoTW set to make her look a little less bulky. Sylvari Ranger is currently in Mist Walkers, and while I’m probably going to change it to something else, I’m thinking of keeping her in a coat, despite it not being very ranger-ish; I usually go Sword/Axe for melee, and I just love how the coattail flares out during the sword’s autoattack.

Also, IIRC the new sPvP armor set is suppose to be coat-less for mediums, so more options are coming soon!

Female medium isn’t all that hard to avoid getting a trench coat, since it’s the chest piece and not the leggings that give the trench coat appearance. Moreso with sylvari, since you have cultural tiers 1 and 2 (for both genders) – though you’ll still end up with butt leafs. Mind you, you still have less than 15 options out of the ~60, but you still have a decent amount of them.

It’s male medium where there’s only less than 5 options.

I kind of wish that Anet would just remove the weight classes on armors. So that my norn warrior can have something that isn’t belonging in Spartacus/300 or a literal human tank.

embrace the trenchcoat

Welp, Dante’s here. Too bad there’s no proper demons in GW2.

He better be a ranger with Naegling.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I know this is kinda an anti-trenchcoat thread, but I’ve been wearing this on my Charr Thief, and everytime I try something new it just doesn’t look as good to me. I think it’s the trenchcoat look that I like on him.

O_O
I ended up choosing the same weapon skins (Ebonhawk) and even the shoulder piece for my thief, yet it was in going toward a different look. Most of it was driven by the Midnight dyes I used, and ther were few medium armor choices that didn’t have clipping issues on charr that made the colors live up to their name.
*Duelist Coat
*Bucaneer Leggings
*Privateer Boots
*Whisper’s Secret Shoulderguard
Legging choices are about as bad, so I settled on Buccaneer’s because of the grenade badoliers. Shoulder pieces tended to look bulky, so it was a small compromise to go with Whisper’s for the daggers; dying it to match the Ebonhawk weapons sold it for me. (White, Gunmetal, and Lemon Ice dyes; Lemon Ice is the closest match I could find, but there may be better.)

Overall, I think it comes off as a retro-Hollywood swashbuckler style.

Yeah I’m not sure why medium armor is so disproportionately long coats. The concept behind Rangers and Thieves is that they are supposed to be light and nimble, not encumbered by really bulky outfits. And it’s lame that they usually cover the pants. They often look like skirts which is a little annoying on male toons.

More short leather vests and maybe some light metallic materials are in order.

That said, there are more decent options out there than a lot of people realize.

Thanks for the link. Looking forward to seeing the male version, and hoping it doesnt include the ubiquitous butt-cape or trenchcoat (since we already have a few pieces that don’t have them on female, but still do on male).

Still curious if someone knows what chest piece is on the Charr posted above. That was my main reason for resurrecting this thread, not so much to restart another trench-coat complaint.

Asymmetrical outfits are a style, and it’s one that I’ve grown to love just as much as (if not more than) symmetrical clothing. The reason being that symmetrical gear tends to come across as standardized or military, whereas asymmetry stands out.

The degree is important, of course. WoW-style shoulders are just ugly.
