That’s an amazing idea. Especially if you can have a little “stable” of bird choices, a’la finishers, to select which one will be active as the mood strikes you.

I was thinking about how to make that work! I think that’s a great idea – that way you can replay the animation and make sure you like it. Also hope it is pr. character so you can have a different mail carrier for each
A vulture might be nice. A vampire bat for Halloween. A penguin on ice skates for Wintersday.
But I really want a grouchy old Asura dressed in a mailman’s costume who will pop in, disgustedly rip up my mail tossing pieces all over, and pop out again with an angry grumble under his breath.
Build a man a fire, and he’ll be warm all day.
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

This is such a sweet idea. Thanks for sharing, Drimi.
By the way, feel free to put [Suggestion] in the front of this or other ideas you’d like to suggest. It’s not necessary, but I think it’s nice to see that “flag.”
It has been suggested before on these forums, but that was 8 months ago and it didn’t get a lot of comments from forum members.
I would love to have different types of mail agents, such as:
Golem (like near the Rata Sum gate in Metrica Province where a golem delivers a message to an NPC about his cloak of invisibility…that ‘brrrrt’ as he runs away is hilarious)
Rabbit
Hawk (that screech as they pass over)
Owl/Baby owl griffon
As well as a different agent when selling or receiving mail while under water, like a dolphin. A pigeon flying under water is just plain weird.
One of the comments in that linked thread also suggested being able to designate one of our mini pets as the delivery agent. That’d be pretty nice too.
I wish they’d fix the Mad King runes to be ravens attacking, as advertised. I have a Raven Norn that I’d probably go back to using them for if they fixed that.
I’ve suggested once even much longer than 8 months ago a similar idea, but not specific about customizign the doves, but more about in general customizing more the the whole Mail System and adding new functions to is at a time, when the forum still had its Suggestions Sub Area….
The Mail System doesn’t make yet much usage of its potential this System has.
If you just brainstorm for a few minutes about it, you will see, that it could be so much more:
Personalized Mail Doves
Post Cards for various Topics, like Birthday, Holidays, Greetings, Fun ect.
Emote Implemention (Smilies and such.. why just plain text only in our Messages)
Internal Video Links (connected with Youtube to see them in the game) (if that possible ^^ naturally by clicking on the link to start the video in the game, that way we could see for example ingame guides, without having to go on sites like dulfy, wiki ect. on external internet sites)
When you could send over and view ingame Videos, then that should be also possible with Photos/Pictures (a Photo Mode in GW2 would be awesome for that together with a Photo Album Feature that lets us save them)
Improvements to Item Mail, to be able to have access from the Mail System also to your Account Chest to take out there somethign to send it to an other player, so that you don’t have to run to a Account Chest NPC first to get that Item into your Inventory to send it out via Mail.
Font Type/Size Customization (inclusive underline / italized and fat text)
Increase of Mail Memory Size from lousy 10 to at least 50
Automatic Notifications (when you have sold somethign in the TP, or when someone logs in, or at a certain time to remember you on something (Calendar Function)
Added Filter Functions
Sort Function for Mails after the Person (Alphabetically) who send them to make the Mail System clearer and easier to overview
A Log System for Deleted Mails (including showing the Account Name of the Sender showing like maximum the last 25 Mails you deleted, when it was that you got them and from who)
Mail System Splitting between General Mails/ Guild Mails/ Official Mails (From ANet Staff)* so that each area has space for maximum 50 Mails
Mail Sounds (add various Sound Effects to when you receive a Mail from someone specific, so you know based on the Sound Effect, from whom you received Mail)
Check Box Function (So that the otherside gets an Automatic Notification, that Your Mail has been read)
Delete All Check Box Function (Click it, and then delete Mails and you delete directly all Mails in your Box, instead of having to delete all 1 by 1)
Just some few points that I’d like to see the Mail System getting improved with.
Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside
Honestly, I don’t need such a gimmick. I never realized that something happens if I get a mail other than that the exclamation mark pops up. It is said that there is a dove bringing a mail. Really? I never saw it. Never in 2 years. In my opinion, there are other things that should be cared about. Functional enhancements with the mail system, for example.
But I really want a grouchy old Asura dressed in a mailman’s costume who will pop in, disgustedly rip up my mail tossing pieces all over, and pop out again with an angry grumble under his breath.
This… 100 times this.

I am actually opting for one idea out of Scarlet`s reportoir… shocking I know, but what about… just listen… think about it… Dolyak with Jetpackswooooshhhhh
I have been unsure why we even have a mail dove. It flashes for all of 2 seconds (maybe) on the screen. It would seem to be an animation we could do without actually. I do not see much usefulness in changing it whether it be for gold or gems.
However some of the suggestions put forth by Orpheal do have merit and should probably be examined first before we start looking at the frills of the system.
I can understand why people think this sounds “cool”. If it wouldn’t affect other sides of the game, I would be ok with the idea – but it does. It’s a feature that would take away attention from things I would definately consider more important.
Please don’t spend any resources on this.

I am very excited to see this live today! – Thank you Gaile/ArenaNet!
