You have to login to a character and open the chest, otherwise it’ll just sit there until you do.
It only appears once you log in. Also if you don’t claim it, and switch to another character, it will remain on the original character.
If you don’t claim it will one still show up the following day?
Yes. It won’t go away until you click on it or it gets auto-accepted due to excessive chests.
What happens if you log in to a level 1 character, chest pops up, then you delete that character?
It happened to me and I think I lost that chest.
If you log in and then delete the character you logged in on before accepting or opening the chest, you lose the reward.
You need to load a character for the chest to appear, and ONLY that character will be able to open the chest.

Must Log In to game. Press Play Button. Select Character. Go Inside Game Itself. In Other Words Log In with Character Into The World Of Tyria. The Reward Is 24 Hours Behind (To say Day 1 Gets You rewarD AFTER the first reset)
You’d thought just to log in to your account and all log in rewards would be waiting for you? no. You must go inside the world and ACCEPT the chest.
