Q:
hello guildwars community,
as a player of gw2 from launch, i am contemplating how far we have come in two years.. and where tyria intends to lead us.. we’ve had all manner of patches, we’ve played a myriad of content.. i am not here to question it, i am not here to demand.. i simply mean to offer a humble game suggestion regarding average content/average players..
daily content delivery revamp
taking from the games daily interface, instead of filling out 5 achievements, could you arena net possibly consider kicking that up a notch and implementing some sort of daily quest exposure for your average players.. the delivery system would take some resources, but once implemented, you could include any content you see fit.. players can choose how many of the available quests to do and be rewarded accordingly..
i do not know who this would appeal to Exactly.. some people claim to have already done everything in game.. arena net would need to develop this alongside whatever they’re already doing.. let me know what you think
edit : walk-through summary of idea
thank you for your time

I know quite a few people in game who are constantly complaining these days how much work it is to get their daily achievements done (preferably all of them to not miss out on a single ap), pick up the daliy boss event bonus chests, do the daily crafting, harvest the daily nodes in their home instances, pick up the daily jp chests from jps where they parked a ton of alts, and maybe do some daily dungeon paths or fractal brackets to round out the grind. These people literally spend hours each night grinding out their daily bonus rewards that they feel forced to pick up and throw a fit if they happen to miss out on one of the rewards or another (due to lack of time or simply forgetting one step or the other).
Of course, it is their personal problem that they feel the need to pick up any daily bonus this game offers to them instead of just playing whatever they enjoy. But adding yet another daily bonus for whatever activity that possibly makes more people feel they miss out on if they don’t do whatever quest it is than it makes people feel additionally rewarded seems counter-productive to me.
The core of this game is not quest-driven but free exploration. You go out and do whatever you feel like, and are (in theory) comparatively rewarded no matter what you choose to do. There already are a lot of extra carrots around for people who prefer to be motivated by the rewards to do stuff. I honestly prefer to just go out and do whatever I want and to feel that I spend my time just as “productive” as people doing other things, instead of the game dangling (too many) daily carrots in my face all the time.
Extra daily quests for the sake of questing (like small scavenger hunts or solo bounties) would be right up my alley, but please no extra rewards. If the rewards are in the same league as regular dynamic events and possibly jp chests I’m all for it, but if it’s a reward system that adds to the “daily grind” for people then I don’t want anything like it.
I would love daily ‘quests’ of some kind. Something like the Zaishen quests. Or some kind of scavenger hunt…or something like Nick used to want.
A chest at the end would be rewarding to me…or even just another AP. /shrug
I dont guess i understand how people feel “obligated” to do the daily content. I lost all need for that when they added a cap of 10K AP in the april update. I like the idea of having a daily quest everyday though.
i suppose some people would see such things as a chore to do.. there have been a few carrots on a stick in this game.. i found it unsettling that liadri was released without varied difficulties, or at least various levels of reward based on performance.. we’ve actually seen “gold, silver, bronze” implemented in the game and it showcases arena net’s attention to detail and fairness.. i was quite unnerved when collections arrived.. it seemed precedence was in pumping up older content, at the expense of rng grind and trading post squabbling.. how they could ever conclude that a tradable, low drop rate arah item would be a reasonable ingredient for home instance loot is beyond me.. it is a horrible thing, to see the carrot yanked away from a bunny, but i feel the suggestions i made offer attainable goals for gamers willing to invest a small amount of play when they can
so, i was kicking this idea around in my head a bit more.. and i realized it might relate to players more if the quests were handed out from a representative of their racial city.. the less generic the npc, the more production work though..
Daily quests could be interesting. Maybe add one to the daily achievements so that people still have a choice?
Great idea, tbh.
I played Gw1 for 11 years and alot of it was spent on Z missions and the like, the current daily’s are too easily achievable without ever wanting to achieve them in PvP or WvW situations.
Would like too see this implemented at some point.
ditto on rasimir. i would like to see more encouragement for the players when t comes to exploring the open world. perhaps a daily event completion on certain low population pve maps?
They have Orrian killer. How about 5 events in a certain level range map?
orrian killer is good, it’s a daily that takes us out of our comfort zone.. it’s not kill 10 rats, it’s kill 10 orrian rats.. but that’s as far as it takes us.. i think the players deserve another daily system that keeps us a bit more engaged with the lore, the game’s playability, and things seasoned players may have overlooked..
that’s very interesting
The idea of having some sort of quest alongside dailies seems different, but doable. Right now dailies are pretty monotonous as it is. Change would be nice.
Highly agree, daily achievements at the moment are too vanilla
I’d definitely agree, a revamp to the dailies would be very appreciated :>
Agreed. I feel as if the dailies should be revamped.
I agree. Dailies have a bit of a grind mindset as you do them; an addition of variety to the whole daily quest system would do wonders, especially if the rewards were on par with or better than the current daily.
I like your idea, I think the daily that we have right now is Arena Net’s philosophy of “you can do whatever you want wherever you want, and still making progress”, but then again, if players want a more “epic” and “questy” feeling for their daily, have a more specific objective, the game should also provide the opportunity. I would like to see a parallel system, with the “quest daily” as a complementary system to have its own set of rewards, maybe progression to unlock skinset, receiving a scrap of the lore, both can be related to the quest objective.
I like the idea. Variety would do some good.
keep posting they might catch on
I also think that having the variety of doing a random daily quest whether it is challenging strength wise or jumping wise would be really fun and interesting.
I could see this being and interesting alternative to normal daily content. As long as it provides the same net rewards I see this as only an improvement.
There’s a decent amount of daily stuff to be done, but any sort of variety is nice, especially if it’s something fresh.
I agree with the majority of the topic posters here, variety in these tasks (especially with the rewards involved) would be much appreciated I believe. Let’s hope there’s at least some consideration given from the attention being given to the idea.
I personally don’t care for a daily achievement quest per say, but i think this can become interesting if implemented in the right way. I wouldn’t go and do a daily quest if will take an hour or so. Now, if the ‘Quest’ was something like a Heart Quest, that takes 5-10 minutes, and be fun to do, yet challenging, it might be awesome! Maybe include longer or larger quests for a Monthly Achievement under a separate category. Also, have the rewards be consistent with the time and challenge put into it. Maybe have the daily drop a Rare item, or a few Masterwork items. The Monthly, or larger/longer ones drop a Rare and a few others with a small chance of an exotic. There have been talks of scavenger hunts, this would be interesting as well implemented into it. Just something different then the find a person to kill, or some escort.
Just my two cents for what that’s worth on this idea.
PS: Nice post, well though out and nice to see that the comments are constructive as well.
fun fact: there hasn’t been a substantial change to the daily system in 20 months
also, could you imagine a tyria where the open world lfg isn’t cluttered with the same flavor of the month content? just a thought ^^
I like the quest idea and I think that a lot of people enjoy quest type ideas. However, the rewards would need to be thought out…and as some has mentioned, cannot be more grindy than doing the dailies as is. And, some are already reaching their daily achievement max.
I do like the idea of a longer monthly quest. Harder the quest, better the reward.
Intriguing, but Rasimir said it best…

I wouldn’t want another reason when I log in to groan and think to myself, “Oh lord, I have to finish this or else I won’t get the reward I want/need…” which, to me, would just add to the repetitiveness.
Also, adding to what Dragon Aine said…

…let’s say that the daily quest takes place in your home instance? How about, once a day (since many head to their home instance to gather the nodes daily anyway?) there’s a random event in your home instance (say, defend this, escort that, etc.) that takes roughly 5-10 minutes to complete that gives a scaled money/karma reward with an item called a “Daily Grab Bag” that, when opened, gives a SINGLE item from a list of possible normal daily rewards, but lesser versions (tiny karma jugs, +10-50 luck, etc)? Or, perhaps, maybe no “Grab Bag” at all and maybe a simple T1-4 crafting bag, scaled? Not only would it give more incentive to do that simple daily, but it would also give players a reason to visit their home instance after the PS.
Of course I think that the daily “quest” not be required to complete the normal dailies, and it should be more of an extra side people can do for that small, extra boost? It would also give newer players a different alternative to get crafting materials…?
As for the monthly “quest”, how about it taking place in the player’s home city/starting area? Maybe a decent-sized meta with a scaled (but lesser) monthly reward that involves fighting a few elites/veterans, possibly a defense segment? Or, better yet, development for Destiny’s Edge 1.0, as the races already have representatives of each in the form of that race’s particular mentor giving a random task each month to be completed in the form of furthering their agenda?
I would definitely be in favor of a daily quest. In my opinion the best scenario would be if these quests were handed out in the player home instances. It would give more reason to visit them for one. It would also be neat if the quests handed out were localized to your race’s homeland. This would give more variety for people who play different race alts, thus making the daily quest more interesting.
I am also in favor of there being some kind of reward for going out and doing these quests.
Also, perhaps adding some kind of extra reward for doing multiple dailies in a row, or how fast you can complete them? Something to add a little more reward for people to look forward to.
i thought it would clarify a few things to post a walk through based on how i would implement a daily content exposure delivery system
Oracle of the Mists
each day, players can enter the Hall of Monuments.. there they will meet a specter.. this unnamed entity will commission Tyrian heroes to complete 3 optional tasks.. these tasks will consist of any quest/event/encounter already existing in game.. each mission is presented with significant lore bits.. here is a quick example: Prevent the Tamini from retaking Holdland Camp.. holdland is a makeshift facility on a battlefront near tunwatch redoubt waypoint.. it is usually contested between the seraph and the tamini.. arena net can go as far as to make a dialogue out of this.. who are the seraph, they are the largest military organization in the human kingdom of kryta.. who are the tamini, they are the smallest portion of a three tribe centaur alliance against kryta.. why is there conflict, “i am too tired to explain it today”..
now, upon completion of the initial task, players will receive a reward paired with tokens.. possible rewards could be champ loot containers of various type.. 3 for the first task, 2 for the second, and 1 for the last.. although you are progressively rewarded less, you will gain a token per task.. this eliminates gating.. it will be on arenanet’s shoulders to organize a system that affords players fresh missions with varied difficulties.. possible token usage could be 50 tokens for a warbeast mini, 100 tokens for a ‘timeless mercenary’ title, 150 tokens for ?etc..

I don’t have a hall of monuments. What do you do for the players who didn’t come from GW1? Because in my opinion players who don’t play GW1 to earn the hall of monuments shouldn’t have access to the hall of monuments.
As long as it is not the actual daily for the day people would probably enjoy it. They complained when the number of.options got reduced so they were no longer getting the dailies by just playing how they wanted to play that day. There are players out there that expect the daily to be something that will always tailor to their gameplay. And I think there should be a daily out there that caters to the people who don’t like quests.

also, eye of the north is a location in the game anyone who has visited lion’s arch can get to ^^
I liked the Zaishen missions and bounties in GW. However, be careful what you ask for. GW2 is not the same game. Those missions and bounties were available on demand because they were instanced. They won’t be in GW2. A bounty to kill, say. Ulgoth, would require play during one of the windows when he appears. I guarantee some players would be locked out of that particular bounty.
Not to say that this suggestion couldn’t happen, but great care would have to be taken in design. Specific tasks were given to unlock traits back in April, and the system was not well-received. The same could very well happen with this suggestion.
i could see seeking out a particular task and then hitting a wall being frustrating.. but i would like them to make it that completed quests do not repeat and failed or skipped ones are rolled again, hopefully not too often.. failing all 3 optional quests in a day would be rather tragic..

As to the Hall of Monuments, a portal stone is available to every player. An NPC in Lion’s Arch will give you one for free. ANet though could simply put a waypoint in there, already known to all accounts if they wanted to do this.
And as to non Guild Wars 1 players having access, why not? For them it’s essentially an empty building except for some ghostly NPCs.

lore purposes.. you’re not going to see an asura gate or waypoint to Eye of the North until there is a campaign to reclaim the surrounding territory from the icebrood. . .

There’s already a one way Asuran portal from there to Lion’s arch. iirc it lands you in front of the WvW portals. Since there is one on that end, surely it wouldn’t be difficult for Asurans to make one that takes you to there from LA.

Its laurels all over again. A specific currency only available through specific, daily gated content (daily quests in this case), that you need to aquire to be able to be trade for exclusive rewards.
Don’t we have enough daily gated currency already?
Like I said, daily quests sounds good to me, that’s a kind of content that I could see myself enjoy, but please no exclusive rewards. At most I could see adding an extra daily “complete a daily quest”, or maybe two or three of them, so you could do daily quests instead of the dailies we have now to gain your daily laurel, but that’s as far as I’d go with this kind of thing. I like a variety of content, but I don’t like to see even more rewards tied to just one kind of content exclusively.
without monthly, i don’t recall ever having the opportunity to get 3 laurels in a given day
and how exactly is a token merchant bartering for a currency obtained through quests {which depending on how arena net handles this could be any available content in the game really} “exclusivity”? not any more exclusive than some of the pvp reward skins or the geode merchant in dry top that is for sure
I think it will be a great idea. saves time. and the old daily system is boring. so why not?
I think this idea could go either way, but a lot of questions would need to be answered. First of all, what would these ‘quests’ be like. Would they be a chain of events, or would they be a more story type quest where you enter an instance and do it by yourself. How many quests for the daily? Is it the same quest every day/how would they make a new quest for each daily? Wouldn’t it get boring doing the same quest over and over again essentially becoming the daily system we currently have? I do agree that the daily’s could/should be revamped though.

Because you can only get the token through doing the daily quests.
Geode acquisition isn’t restricted to X per day. The problem isn’t a new currency in and of itself. It would be a new currency and you could only earn X per day. And the rewards would take several days of playing to earn.
Just make the tokens laurels and add some new stuff to the laurel merchant. Or make it karma and have some stuff that people actually want to spend karma on added to a karma merchant in LA and/or the racial cities.
And have the daily quest be activated via the story journal.
I think it’s a pretty good idea that will benefit veterans and noobs alike.
First thing that came to mind as I was reading through this thread was “This kinda sounds like the Zaishen Challenge Quests from GW1”
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zaishen_Challenge_Quest
If ANet introduced a system for GW2 similar to that, I’d totally be on board
Being able to do about 10-20 daily quest that each give 1-3 gold would be a great addition to making gold. Currently the only reliable way to make gold is by farming dungeons endlessly and that gets tedious and boring. Adding dailies in this manner would greatly relieve that and make grinding more enjoyable.
As the OP mentioned, there are many players who have already completed all of the hearts in the game – some on multiple characters already. So I’m not sure about adding them to the dailies. Especially since a random selection of hearts would require travelling to different zones. But that said I don’t have any objection to the idea as long as the other options stay in the dailies so I have a good choice.
As for people feeling required to do all the dailies, I’ve never understood those people. This is a game, a game is played to have fun. If your game feels like a job, you are either doing it wrong or (if you feel there is no other way to play the game) you need to choose another game.
I NEVER have done all of the dailies or monthlies and I’m not concerned about it. You can’t “win” an MMO so I don’t see the point in worrying about it.
Personally I enjoy the daily/monthly system set up they have now.. I’d rather have them focus on other aspects of the game. Such as adding more world bosses or adding new zones and furthering the story of course!
Agree! I like the idea! Good post!
I’d rather they put in more effort in Living Story and expansions since we don’t see anything new from World Bosses, and where’s our promised Guild Hall and Dungeons? I still don’t see it :/
