This idea stems from the need to have things added to the crafting material section. The most common objection is that this would negate the need to buy bank tabs (which is usually countered by someone with all 12 bank tabs). Here is my solution that will bring in more gem store purchases and still alleviate this need:
Custom Material Slots
Custom Material Slots will allow you to place whatever stackable item you want into a new spot in the Crafting Material tab in the bank. This slot can be assigned (maybe right click the empty slot and select an “Assign Slot” option or something) to anything (barring stuff that Anet decides not to allow) that can stack. This would then add the item to the list of things to be deposited when the player hits “deposit all crafting materials.”
Here are several things that i could see going into these slots if they existed:
- Trophy/Token items (not the junk but stuff like foxfire clusters, Mystic Forge Stones, Geodes, Baubles etc)
- Crafting components (balls of dough, pie filling, weapon components etc)
- Champ/loot bags (this might be a stretch, but it could still work)
- Consumable items (piles of sand, tonics etc)
- extra crafting material slots for stuff that already exists in the crafting material tab (excess leather for example)
- Upgrade Components (Doubloons, Crests, Runes etc)
Custom Material Slots could be sold in the gemstore (maybe 10 for 400 gems or something like that). These slots should also work with the crafting material expander that currently adds a stack to the limit allowed in the crafting material tab.
Maybe an Anet employee could run a report every so often to see what people are keeping in their Custom Slots and if 95% of people with the slots have the same item in one of their spots, maybe there could be a new spot added to the regular crafting materials section, wallet, or even a new tab for something-tonic tab anyone? 
This would be a great improvement to the already awesome crafting material tab!
