I being a role player and now with megaserver find it very hard to group up or find friends to rp with. I know we can party up and taxi /use whisper to find each other but on bigger maps its hard to find each other even still.
We also have the nifty /ip command that brings up the numerical IP of every server and shard you are in on GW 2 so you and your friend(s) can easily cross check their server locations.
The problem I have is if I want to mass rp with say more than 5 people. I can’t get taxied because the party I want to join is full and party allows us to rp without interruptions from trolls, etc. Other than making a new increase in party size, (not going to happen) or using a squad, (needs a commander, which I have commander status now and can use), there is no way to keep organized or find people quickly.
I propose a new look up feature in the form of /whois and /where commands.
/whois is used in many older MMOs and should have existed in an open world game like GW 2 from the start. What it does is finds a player you don’t know the name of exactly like if you know their main, but not their alts and don’t have them on contacts.
Since all player names are unique and account names are not, (unless you add the 4 digit after like, JoeShmoe.4567), you can find that person now matter who they are playing as.
/where is for someone you know of by name 100% and is on contacts but when you can’t party with them (already 5/5) and can only locate indirectly by /ip and whispers. This is a case of being unable to be taxied to them.
I had issues where I can’t even get a response by whisper cause they are either: afk, in a fight and can’t talk, or busy and can’t be bothered right away.
What /where will do is list their /ip and map and if you are in same map, put a temporary orange dot on the mini map to follow (much like the sentry item in EOTM/WVW but for pve).
Also has the option to move you to the shard if its not full by auto-taxing you. If that is not possible add in move to their shard option by right click menu.
If its not possible because of way point cost cheating/avoidance, deduct the cost of nearest way point to that player you wish to find (if contested, next nearest and so on) then highlight them as usual as if you did a /where command on them.
This will help us role players get together faster and also help anyone else for whatever they may need this for.
Of course disable this in pvp and wvw. I don’t want you to be able to get to your allies or your enemies easier if they are a friend on other side.
