here is a little idea could that “staff” for the thief be a Tetsubo he is running with? I’m sorry if that’s not the wright way of typing it in english. the “staff” seems to be getting larger the farther from the thief. too see picture go to: Ronpierce.2760 he has picture linked

The fact that 2 of them have both gotten the same utility skill type tells me that repeats of weapons aren’t impossible either.
Yeah, this.
I was very surprised to see ele also get shouts, so now anything is possible with regard to duplication of either elite weapons or skills.
There’s also the fact that, there’s little good reasons why ANet should do extra efforts to keep the new weapons unique.
I mean, what would it accomplish except make their job of finding and designing 9 elite specs harder?

Yes but the differance is They have stated that druid will get staff never did they state that elementalist would get sword or that thief would get staff/rifle.
Its just what we the community have dreamed up our selfs from watching 1 video and some data mined stuff.
You cant say that he aint shifting the goal post when in his first post he say that it aint a good idea to state what weapon the druid has since anet havent said what it is, he get refuted with a video link to a statmen from Collin the man.
Turns around and say oh well they changed stuff before can we be sure?
Edit
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/specializations-part-two-reward-tracks-and-elite-specializations/
In this link they state that every class will get a new weapon never say that it wont be duplicates true.
But on skills they say atleast one class will get 6 shouts opening it up for more then one class to get the same skill types.

Can anyone link where exactly an Anet dev said no two professions will get the same elite spec weapon?
Anyways, I’m pumped for melee staff thief. I hope it’s flashy and acrobatic, being that thieves are supposed to be the most nimble and agile class around.
Also, they’ve been revealing elite specs at such a slow pace! The wait is killing me! I hope we get more elite specs shown to us soon.

What I mean is, Palador asked if there was any proof that Druids were getting staff outside of the HoT preview video. Linken showed that yes, yes there is.
Instead of accepting that there is indeed proof beyond that preview video of Druids getting staves, Palador shifted the goalposts so as to not invalidate the point he was trying to make.
I’m not saying that Anet shifted the goalposts, I’m saying that Palador did.

I did read it. Are you suggesting that because they didn’t use the magic words “at least” that all of the sudden all of the evidence supporting staff thieves (datamined trait background and weapon to match, following the same pattern that lead to ele warhorn confirmation) are null and void? Because that’s… really reaching at this point.
I’ll admit, for a while, I thought thieves were getting a rifle, but I’m really excited about the idea of a stylish melee staff thief. And there’s far more evidence supporting staff thief than anything else (I don’t even know where the torch thief theories came from).

Condescending much? Anyways, he’s basically saying what he’s supposed to say in that position. “It’s not official until it’s officially announced.” Duh. We know. It’s just that there’s really strong evidence that points to thieves getting the staff as a weapon. Of course it’s not 100% confirmed until they officially announce it, but you can’t deny that there’s a really good chance that it’s happening based on the recent evidence presented to us.
And it was really strong evidence that elementalist should get sword aswell we got to see weapon skills for it, we all know what happen to that.
And we thought some class would get land spears aswell we saw that in a video moving picture alot stronger evidence then a still picture aint it.
What is it thiefs lack a 1200 range weapon and 2h melee one so both are up for grabs.
Edit
In the article I linked they said on prof would get hammer, how funny would it be if thats the thief and he get flying turrets as his skills
(edited by Linken.6345)
Really strong evidence? A few skills datamined that kind of looked like copies of the dagger skills?
And how strong that evidence is compared to datamining an actual weapon complete with art assets done like the ele warhorn or that supposedly thief staff?

I get what you’re saying, but there’s just so much going for melee staff that it’s hard to argue against it. It’s very true that we won’t know for sure until Anet decides to unveil the thief’s elite spec (this is also why the wait is killing me). I could be wrong in all this, and if so then oh well, but more than anything I just want to know what the elite spec is for thief and what it will entail.
I’m still on the side of melee staff. It just sounds way much more fun in my humble opinion.

2) Teef maybe getting rifle seems more themed with an infiltration type class.
The
Thief is also very ninjaesque and a melee staff with martial arts would fit much better than a sniper rifle.

1) True to an extent. Yes, datamined into is not gospel, but your wording suggests that they were working on sword ele until the last minute and decided to swerve us all by scrapping it and creating the tempest with warhorn. They likely planned on warhorn tempest early on and we just predicted wrong. If they’ve been working on a staff thief, then that’s what they’re going to roll out with. They won’t change it all the sudden at a sudden whim just to troll the whole player base. We could be wrong about that too, I won’t lie, but there’s also much stronger evidence supporting staff thief, that’s all I’m saying here.
2) Entirely your opinion. I think melee staff will work better. Entirely my opinion. I also absolutely abhor the term “teef” to describe the thief. Also my opinion. :P

What seems to more thief themed is entirely your opinion and not gospel.
All most people in the pro-staff crowd are saying is that there is more concrete (data-mined) evidence that supports thief getting staff while there is zero actual evidence that shows thief will get rifle. All the pro-rifle crowd can conjure up is their opinions on what they feel anet is thinking and the perpetuation of the one unique weapon per an elite spec myth.

Do engineers where medium armor and wield rifles?
If yes… That could be an Engineer
If no… wait… that could be an Engineer
I think that could be an engineer and isn’t concrete evidence for anything.
Edit:
Also in that trailer we have three elite specs shown off
Druid, Engi Elite Spec, Chronomancer
Not a single of three now known elite specs (reaper, dragonhunter, tempest)
are seen in that trailer as a sneak-peak so why should anyone believe that the thief elite spec was dropped in there for a sneak-peak?

To be fair, all elite spec teasers were shown in their own right in action. Engi bashing wolves with his hammer and flying turrets, mesmer with her shield and wells, etc
The medium guy with rifle shows up amongst 2 other random npc’s, shows of nothing at all unlike the others. Honestly he looks more like a random npc (just like the other 2) as part of the trailer than a teaser of a spec to come. It’s not like he had a definitive thief vibe.
There is way too much hope put on what looks to be an npc. Compare that footage to all the actual elite spec teasers in that trailer.
oh that staff wielding picture you found could be a revenant, do revenant wield a staff oh yes they do
sebradle i guess next your going to say that the one sporting a hammer and drones can be a warrior

There is a clear difference between the two parts, one is a random dude amongst other guys, he isnt even the main focus, the sylvari dude is. The other guy has the screen all for himself and is showing off what he can do, just like all the other specs the trailer gave a look at.
That trailer is older than the datamined sword skills no? So it’s old enough that development changed mind for thief weapon if it was really expected to be a rifle.
oh that staff wielding picture you found could be a revenant, do revenant wield a staff oh yes they do

Sneak thief armor is medium armor, Revenant is heavy armor.
That Engineer with a hammer was clearly advertised as an elite spec in an Elite Spec portion of the trailer.
Also if this is the best you can come up with there is really no point in arguing with you any further cause this is some pretty weak kitten your coming up with. Its like you love to ignore context in order to to back up your claim.
Look up inductive reasoning, all this is just speculation. Thief staff is not a certainty neither is Thief rifle. The pro-staff guys just have more evidence to back our claims. But the way you talk thief rifle is a certainty.
Hate to break it to you if we get staff your gonna have to live with it. Like Christ if we get rifle I am not gonna throw a hissy fit. I am gonna play the elite spec whether we get rifle or staff cause I like the thief archetype no matter what.
You know I was just thinking the most damaging thing against this http://i.imgur.com/xA8qvVk.png picture is that the guy is in full sneak-thief. So there is no elite spec armor piece on him. The only thing that could be it is the gloves but they are too heavily stylized to really tell.

Except for that very weapon has a skin in the game. It’s an ascended bo staff. I won’t link the in-game code because I don’t know if it’s against the forum rules, but it’s not hard to find.
Sure that pic could be an artist’s elaborate troll, but here’s the thing: that pic was found BEFORE we found the in-game staff. Which means the artist knew of the staff skin before everyone else did. Finding the in-game staff skin to match that trait line background is just further evidence supporting staff thief.
And dude, we’ve been repeating ourselves in saying that it’s all speculation. No one is claiming this as fact. You’re just seeing it as though we’re heralding it as undeniable proof. Maybe some people are, but I’m just saying there’s a lot of stuff to back up our speculations. Again, we could be totally wrong, but we’re looking at what’s been presented to us and going with that.

And a rifle medium armor guy most likely thief.

A barrel of a long rifle? The barrel is so long that the body of the rifle isn’t even in frame? Really? Reallllly????
It’s obviously the bo staff that was data mined.
You folks are really starting to embarrass yourselves with these mental gymnastics.
You do know that muskets are pretty long right?
Take this one for example with a barrel lenght of 42 inches (110 cm) it could easily hide the bottom and top part of a rifle inspired from that in the picture linked above.

So it’s so kitten long that the forestock of the gun isn’t even in frame? Your picture shows the forestock extending almost the entire length of the barrel. Is the bare barrel alone is over 4 feet?
This new musket must have range that makes wvw trebs blush given that it’s shaping up to be so long it’s never not clipping into the ground plane.

Just give us the rifle already some people deserve to be fired…at.
At this point it seems most just worry about cosmetics I’m wondering how can a staff be better than d/p without copying what’s left of s/d the same for rifle and p/p. At least I hope they deliver a new playstyle a surprise would be that we actually get a torch.

Yes we do mate how quickly people forget.
check the 37:45 mark in that video link
And are we sure they’ve not changed it?
I’ll admit, it’s not likely they’ll make it something else. But, this is ANet. They change plans all the time.
This is some first-class goalpost-shifting.
It’s not goalpost shifting if its a direct quote from their livestream. The notes of which can be found here -> https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3eh7gd/tempest_elite_specialization_livestream_notes
Yeah, I guess I kind of did. Sorry.
I’m just feeling a bit paranoid right now, and doubting everything we think we know. Like worrying that the drones we see in the video are not new to the Engineer, but something added in an adventure and used there only. Just worrying that some of the cool stuff I’ve been looking forward to from day one simply won’t happen. (And I’ve tried to keep my expectations low.)
I’m a RPer, and I have characters that would have matched Elementalist Sword and Thief Rifle perfectly. And while the Elemenalist will actually work well with the reality of the Tempest, the Thief and staff are such a mismatch that I’m now worried about all of it.
And yes, by this time I’m pretty much resigned to Thief getting staff. None of the skins I have will even look good for a melee staff, and I don’t want to be stuck using the same skin as everyone else.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
