If I understand this correctly everyone who started playing GW2 prior to January 23, will receive additional character slot upon the release of HoT. Am I right?

Unfortunately now. The fine print for HOT says you to have pre-purchase, which implies they’ll likely end that bonus slot offer before the expansion goes live.

No. You have to purchase the expansion to receive it.

I’ve been playing since the release and I just activated my expansion.
I know my question was poorly constructed. I see that now :P

If you have pre-purchased and tied it to an existing account, you should receive the extra character slot prior to release of HoT (i.e. sooner rather than later).

After release of HoT I personally think A-Net would be hard-pressed not to award the additional character slot to existing accounts if they continue to market HoT as they are currently doing since the same legal precedents in some regions would still be in play (at least AFAIK).

I already received my bonus slot. If you haven’t yet, check with Support and see if they’ve finished with all the accounts. It’s kind of a phased thing, since there are so many accounts to check.

The bonus character slots are added weekly (on a Friday I think) so you should get yours within a week of upgrading your account.

If you buy the Deluxe or Ultimate edition you will get an additional slot (for a total of 2 new slots) which will arrive at the same time as your other items (you might need to log out and back in for it to appear).

You’ll also get a beta character slot, which will have a little green ‘beta’ tag on it and will only be useable during beta test weekends.
