Q:
Ancient Mursatt Relic?
A:
You don’t have to fully complete Episode 1 (I haven’t), but it is true that you don’t have the ability to collect Unbound Magic right at the beginning. I seem to remember getting the ability after talking to General Bennett in the ground camp. Or somewhere around that time. If you have gone through the whole episode and can’t collect Unbound Magic I would quit the game and restart it. If that doesn’t work I would contact Support.
There’s a certain boss in the world who has a magical amulet. Once you get that, you can collect unbound magic in Bloodstone Fen. I’m sort of curious if there are any people who have chapter 2 unlocked but not 1 (or at least not played 1 yet) who could test it out to see if they get this mysterious locket.
I’m pretty sure that happens as part of your story intro to Bloodstone Fen, when you first unlock the Ancient Magic mastery. Certainly I was able to collect floating magic in Ember Bay the moment I got there, having already learned how in Bloodstone Fen.
I don’t remember exactly what unlocked it in the first place, as it happened during input-overload thanks to the new content It’s all a blur.
Is that from Chapter 2 or the start of Chapter 3 out of Rata Sum?
As you can see there is no Info on this as yet?

I did look at the wiki and agree that there should be info.
The part I’m talking about is the very start of LS3, Chapter 1, where you gate from Rata Sum to Rata Novus, have some dialogues, and get on an airship to go to Bloodstone Fen. Then you do story bits in the open world in the Fen, and somewhere in there you get the new mastery of Ancient Magic to bind to your Special Action key.
Like I said it’s a blur to me. I did it all immediately on the day of release, under my usual Tuesday time pressure to see the story before I shut my computer down for the evening and have to worry about spoilers in the forums showing up before I can resume.
But I do vaguely recall getting some sort of pop up when gliding through a ball of magic “train such and such to be able to harvest this.” If you can’t harvest it yet, try looking for that when gliding through one, preferably in the Fen in case the Bay assumes you have that mastery already.
Heck, check to see if you have that mastery ready to train and just haven’t clicked the accept button. It only costs one Mastery point. Assuming, of course, that harvesting the bubbles is tied to the mastery; I’m guessing on that.
One unlocks the Ancient Magic Mastery Track as soon as one enters Bloodstone Fen. I don’t think the Mastery Track is connected to Unbound Magic.
I don’t believe one must do anything special in order to gather ‘purple orbs’, those in the air or on the ground. Just touch them.
As far as the Ancient Mursaat Relic goes, it’s a trophy, so perhaps just something one salvages (though doubtful from the description). I don’t remember seeing one, and there are none on the TP. Might have been datamined?
You weren’t able to gather Unbound Magic from “Purple orbs” until you finished LS3 Episode 1 → ‘Reaper of Magic’.
Are you sure? Not confusing that with Counter Magic?
It could be, I don’t really remember, as it’s been awhile since I did Episode One.
Besides, I’m not sure the OP is concerned with collecting Unbound Magic so much as acquiring the Ancient Mursaat Relic trophy.

I don’t confuse it, when flying through the orbs gave me the message “Unlocked by finishing reaper of magic” or similar.
And the wiki page says so, too: “Only after doing this mission will your character be able to get Unbound Magic from harvesting Bloodstone Crystals and to catch them floating in the sky.”
I’m wondering if this Ancient Musaat Relic is a method for players who don’t have LS3 ep1 to gain the ability to harvest unbound magic? If it is, it doesn’t look like its been implemented yet. The others are right, you currently gain the ability to obtain unbound magic by doing the LS3 ep1 story.

Well, cool. As stated, I didn’t really remember that far back. Such is old age. Thanks for the clarification. =)
I have the Mastery for unbound Magic and its completed , but still it wants a Ancient Mursaat Relic before I can collect the Magic orbs etc.

The mastery shouldn’t be needed to collect unbound magic. It’s the LS3 ep1 story that you need to do.
On this wiki page: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ancient_Mursaat_Relic
It says:
“Accounts with Out of the Shadows completion will not see this item in the vendor listing.
The Mursaat Relic acts as an alternative way of collection Unbound Magic for players that haven’t completed Out of the Shadows.”
Which explains why I’ve never seen this item…
