In the end it went F2P and is now doing well…

…is it? From what i heard, the income is still dropping, and the population managed to hit really low levels (in the low 5 digits range).

Actions, not words.

Wildstar’s F2P doesn’t have a release date yet, so I’m pretty sure they’re just making stuff up to support their point.

I was as happy as the next guy to hear about the addition of hard raids.

The way the community seems to quote ArenaNet again is kind of silly, though.
Reminds me a lot of we used to quote things like “Every class can take every role in GW2” and “Dungeons are skill based, you can play any build you like and do well…”.

It might even have been truthful at the time. Just think about dungeons during the BWE and right after the release:
Many agreed that GW2 dungeons were of the hardest they ever played. People complained that their gear was fully broken by the time they finished the story mode of AC.

There is no way the designers could have predicted exactly how things will turn out, though. The devs have said many times that their own level of skill isn’t even close to that of the actual top players in PvE or PvP.

Just like in any other game it came down to earning rewards quickly, in the end. The only difference between GW2 and other MMOs is that you go for 100% dps instead of 80% dps teams.

Raids might be hard, yet much easier than they look at the first glance.
There will be a meta, the need for certain classes and the idea that the only proper way to do them is the quickest way possible. There will probably be a lot more zerker going on in raids than people think.

Sigh, I’m going to need three different armor sets for raids aren’t I? Ah well, at least the fights should be more interesting than your typical dungeon boss^^

They recently started their F2P beta, and from what i’ve heard the game is much improved since launch and people are enjoying it.

I don’t think they’ve announced an official release for the full F2P yet though.

Either way, the point was that GW2 raids have literally nothing in common with Wildstar. It’s not even an apples to oranges discussion. It’s like apples to lawn gnomes.

The good thing is there WILL NOT be a LFG tool for Raids. Personally, I’m building up my friends list with good fractal 50 players because those are the people that I expect to be able to learn and adapt quickly to raids.

There will be a LFG Raid channel, there will not be a Raid Finder. The difference being you click a button and it auto joins people into your group. But the LFG tool already exists and will be used by people to fill for the raid.

“Role Check!” sounds boring… I’d rather personally have “Gear Check!”.

That already exists!
[Ping Zerk Greatsword] [Ping Zerk Helm] [Ping Zerk Armor] etc.
It’s not exactly pick-up group material anyway, so there’s no need for gear checks. The guild should already have done that ahead of time.

Many alts; handle it!

Well, good to see that Arenanet stopped pretending to be innovative about MMOs and openly admits to make just another run-of-the-mill game.

I’ll do raids of course, but too bad that they gave up on their vaunted pushing the limits attitude.

“Push the limits” or “play how you want”

Pick one because you don’t get both in a cooperative game.

Nah, you totally can. Remember, it was the devs that were to push the limits of the game, so that players would be able to play how they want. Both those statements were to be true, just applying to different groups of people.
Now they seem to give up on both.

You can’t keep creating new innovative content that is also so generic that people never feel pigeonholed. They’ve tried it for 3 years and it’s worked so astoundingly well they had to combine all servers into one system, release a paid expansion, and go semi-f2p.

Creating content that requires people to specialize more is the only way for them to move forward and “push the game’s limits”.

Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…

I’d rather anyone who wants to check gear go back to WoW.
