Anet still no word of Build saver
They already have a rudimentary system in place, for instance when you switch from PvE/WvW to sPvP or vice versa it remembers which equip/traits you had. The only reason I can think of why this hasn’t been implemented yet is they haven’t decided how to make money out of it yet.
It is such a useful feature that most games I play that require builds have had this already for quite some time. Because Anet has a BtP/transaction business model I suspect the reason why long asked for and easy-to-implement player features aren’t in game yet is either (1) It is something everyone would use but it may be hard to figure out how to monetise it, (2) Implementing a feature may possibly have a negative impact on a current revenue stream.
For instance, why would you make a fast action MMO that requires situational awareness and kiting and than have a camera that can’t zoom out enough so you can’t see where other people are, or environmental features like trees etc. can totally block your view? At a guess I would say point (2) above. Anet makes a lot of money from extensive character appearance customisations, so having a large camera zoom out (FoV) could detract from that and may impact sales. No matter how marginally.
I would imagine the main reason for it not being implemented yet is because they need to find a way to incorporate the new specializations into it as well.
Its not as simple a system as it was in GW1, where you only saved skills and attributes. In GW2 you need to save skills, gear, traits and now specializations. Plus they probably need to decide how frequently and easily builds can be changed in certain situations. In GW1 you could only change builds in outposts, so when out in the field you was stuck with one build. In GW2 build swapping could dramatically change the playing field in various parts of the game.
I am sure they will add something at some point, but I think they are more focused on HoT right now. Though who knows, maybe that will be a global feature added in HoT as a surprise extra. Or it may be something they add in a future feature update after HoT releases and once they work the specializations into it.
