I am mainly a wvw player with a tiny bit of wpve on the side and will probably try raids if my guild is interested though i really dont care much for them.
My main is a mesmer and i am currently playing domi/duel/inspiration. Chrono if i took it only nerfs my build, it adds the gimmick of the conti split but i feel its not worth sacrificing one of my current specs for it.
Shield seems lame and id prefer the on demand stealth of torch any day.
I used to also play thief but do not like its current state of hope you gank some one or be killed by a light breeze.
Daredevil not only plays boring (evades while i was dd) the aesthetics of it simply don’t appeal to me… Infact its a huge turn off and my thief is currently benched.
Guardian bow sounds interesting yet the way its currently implemented i dont see why id ever play it long term.
That is all my 80 chars i have and the rest of the new specs dont appeal to me or make me think OMG I MUST LVL THAT! (sooo disappointed with warhorn ele)
Sooo atm i still haven’t bought Hot… my plan was to wait to get hyped by something new i could play.
Gs or Rifle thief… Dual pistol or lb mesmer, sword/dagger ele, halberd warrior.
None of that came and the hype never started for me.
I am just wondering if any others feel like i do and are still contemplating whether to upgrade hot?
If so ehat is your thoughts on that.
Tldr; specs are kinda lame for me personally and as a wvwer im not sure what the point of hot is.

I always wondered that too, from a tpvp perspective. I played these past few BWE on my engineer just fine, sure I had to learn about the new abilities of the elite specializations but after that I could properly fight them.
The thing about the engineer elite specialization is that it would probably be ran if you want to be a melee character and only then (just from hammer speculation) so if the meta is still ranged engineer, I assume they won’t be on the elite specialization.
The drawback is that the current meta does not include your elite specialization, and if one day it does? You do not have the option to run it. And I just like the flexibility

I don’t intend to on my mains. I don’t feel like they lack anything and I’m happy with the set ups they have. I’m not big on swapping around builds, esp with no build saving – an essential tool which must exist for that to happen.
My fringe toons though, will prob get some elites. Reaper for my necro for certain and chrono for mesmer.

As far as my old main Guardian no I have zero interest in playing ranged, how ever I’m leveling a Necro because Reaper feels like a an Unholy DK with out the Ghoul but more conditions, and where you cast Dark Transformation on your self.
I’m a pve player, so my opinion is a little different. My main is an ele and I think the new utilities and warhorn skills are a little too plain for an elite specialization, but the new profession mechanic is a really great feature, and I can go on with a little meddling of my build (not changing gears though). What I’m most hyped about HoT is the revenant, the new profession mechanics and the masteries.

On Guardian I won’t be using it because the elite is a joke. Its like no work went into it what so ever.
Ele is also lacking so I won’t be using it there either. Ranger and engi are TBD.

Probably my Necro. If only because I’ve been waiting forever and a day for the necro to get a greatsword (and because I have the Chiroptophobia greatsword skin). The others, I’ll have to try them out first somewhere less stressful than a new map and hard hitting new mobs.

Be interesting to see how the PvP community deal with it, they’re reliant on the new F2P influx of players, would be a bit of a kick in the teeth if specialisations were a cut above the standard builds. Could end up a bit more like P… 2…..

I will not be using the Necro spec, I truly cannot see where it has any place, the GS attack is to slow, you will be burst down before you can hit anyone, my current necro build does a lot of damage and sustain, ill stick to my current build.

So did any of you who are not going to use the new specs already buy HoT?
If so why? was it the new raids or what ever that sold you or did you feel it was ‘required’.

If you cannot see the purpose of the reaper than I will have to question your knowledge of the class. DH and Tempest sucks for sure. Reaper significantly adds a lot to the necromancer and improves in in cleave damage in PvE.
In PvP there are multiple builds.

I’m going to use Chronomancer and Herald for sure cause I enjoyed them a lot
Don’t think I’ll be using Dragonhunter cause it just takes away from my current crappy guardian build that I enjoy playing. And I don’t think I’ll be using Reaper unless I overhaul my necro, which could be interesting I suppose.
I don’t have an 80 ele and I’m uninterested in all kinds of warriors so Tempest and Berserker are up in the air. I don’t really have a thief but Daredevil seemed kinda fun when I tried it.
I want to use Druid and the unnamed Engie elite but we don’t know anything about them yet! So we’ll see.

I only plan on using Berserker on one of my warriors, Daredevil on one of my thieves and Herald. None of the rest of the elites interest me.
I will probably use the Engineer elite too, but we haven’t actually seen it yet.

The raids were a selling point for me. I’m actually glad I did because I enjoy the Rev that much. I would still recommend people wait until they are satisfied with the content from a personal point of view.

Depends on the game mode.
I will be using normal necro for PvP still, but probably reaper for PvE.
Ele will stay ele in all game modes as it currently stands
Warrior i’m still undecided. Probably will stay warrior in PvE since I am a support build. May try out bezerker in PvP, where I previously didn’t bring my warrior at all.

What I don’t understand with HoT is they are brining this new feature of new specialisations.. why did they not make them more appealing?
They could have added -in my opinion- the bad weapons such as warhorn, torch, shield afterwords which they said they were planing on doing (adding more specs later).
For me it was bad marketing to add the crappy weapons first, I mean there was all this hype waiting for them to unveil the new weapons each class would finaly get after 3 years and lo behold its boring and in short a disappointment.
I am guessing that new specs which will come won’t cost any ‘extra’ as in a new expansion cost or what not so why?
Is it to renew interest in the game in around 6 months after HoT? Adding the bad weapons then would have done the same thing to people who already owned HoT.
Instead you have people like me wondering if I should even buy it.
I bought and played the LS;S2 but it was a side thing, a distraction as my main game is WVW roaming and raiding.
I hear the desert borderland you get with the base game so from a wvw perspective why should I buy HoT outside of wanting to play a certain specialisation?
I read a dev post that NOBODY playing only wvw while that may be true as I do Wpve maybe once every 2 weeks to pass time listening to music if nothing is going on in wvw I do it in cursed shore mainly I don’t even do the new chest train maps (yawn).
I am sure a new farm zone will come with HoT but I don’t really care about it.
It’s about as important to me as the LS;S3 which is – not very.
I could watch LS:S3 on Youtube if I wanted to know about the lore.
I am just confused right now.
Maybe the expansion was not aimed at the type of player I represent unless I find one of the specs appealing?

i agree with this so much! i have found a personal fix for this by running a folder on the google drive i use for the game. its very easy with dual monitors to write down on a cloud server and access on any machine! just an idea that may give you the flixibility to tinker more often

i love tempest and have 500+hours on ele. its a much needed aoe up front damage. since i fight on the front lines as a tank. also it works reallyyy well with a fun cnojure staff build and actually makes it seem useful! i tried it in pvp and it did well for some reason >.<

I’m going to try at least every spec for awhile. There will be situations where the elite spec is better than base.
Except for the necromancer. Once HoT launches, Reaper is never leaving my bar. The traits are just too good. Too universal. The greatsword, too fun. Damage + Defense + Utility. The shouts are meh, but good enough for use.
The tempest is a maybe. As a primarily PVE-er, I’ll be using firestorm in lava font a lot. But for deeps sake, it means I’ll have to sacrifice the arcane line, which has a bunch of defenses and utility that I definitely use. The arcane skills are a strong competitor against the shouts. But what I lack in might stacking, fire storm will make up for. So on that side, it is a “we’ll see”.
The chronomancer is probably a yes. The run speed boost alone is worth it. The ability to spam slow is also good, and compliments the interrupt build nicely. On the flip side, the ability to shatter phantasms at least once is a much needed utility in PVE. The wells + alacrity is an interesting addition, and I wonder how that will change things.
The dragonhunter is only in select circumstances. All of the current traits for the guardian are based around how virtues currently work, and the DH virtues being non-instant cast is a problem. The traps are alright if you can pre-cast them, but guardian utilities are so potent that it is hard to drop it for sheer damage. I’m not sure the longbow is a better ranged weapon than the scepter right now, so unless some things change for the better, I won’t be using much DH.
The Daredevil is another “maybe”. Unlike tempest or DH it isn’t that daredevil does anything wrong. The dodges are great, the physical utilities are strong and fun, the staff skills are currently meh but workable. The issue is that for PVE, Deadly Arts/Critical Strikes/Trickery is already a really strong spec. It is hard to pick what to sacrifice: The utility/group support of trickery? Can’t loose that. The pure aggression and critical power/healing of Critical Strikes? Don’t want to lose that. The damage modifiers and pure power + weakness of Deadly Arts? Maybe, but losing that 20% extra increased damage will be painful. But still, vault’s ability to tear through adds is epic…
The Herald is definitely a yes. I’ve never known the revenant without the herald, so there isn’t much to say on that. The berserker is a no, because I don’t play warrior.
The entire elementalist community.
Haha lulz.
I don’t feel like getting reaper if axe or scepter don’t become reliable ranged weapons and my build is kind of stiff right now. DD is not what I hoped for thief but zerker is screaming “PLAY ME!!” at me for some reasons.

I will not be using guardian elite. I enjoy guardian but the elite really crushed my interest in getting … something good for that class. I like playing ranger, but I didn’t want that for my guardian. I barely play my warrior. I find it very passive and uninteresting, so I doubt I’ll bother with berserker.
I will probably add Tempest to my ele for extensive testing in different environments and situations. I can’t say atm whether I’ll use it regularly. I’m definitely equipping Chronomancer on at least 1 mesmer (I love mesmers), Reaper, Daredevil (assuming they clean up dodging), and Herald.
Even the new class and elite specs didn’t call out to me, HoT maps, masteries, raids, and guild halls do.

Yeah. I have or will have a second level 80 of each class to use for the elite specs, but….
I mean, my Elementalist for this is a charr. Male, lion mane and look. Red outfit, and he has the Red Lion dagger and warhorn skins ready to go. And shouts should fit the concept of the lion charr, right?
And yet, Tempest is awful. Just… awful. I think he’d retain more dignity if he skipped on Tempest and instead declared that he uses his tail tip for toilet paper.

The tempest just disappointing. I don’t know how else to describe the feeling when trying it.
Part of it (for me at least) is that it misses out on the Elementalist’s “wow” factor.
Each class has something they do impressively, their “wow” or “cool” factor. Rangers get the interesting looking pets. Mesmers get the clones and shattering effects. Thieves get the blurs and stealth. Warriors get impressive weapon and physical skills.
For Elementalists, this is the spells they use. Lightning Whip, Glyph of Storms, Meteor Storm…. they’re big and flashy. Now, compare the overloads to these skills. Kind of lacking in “wow”, aren’t they? Let’s forget numbers, they just don’t FEEL impressive.
Now, add to that the mechanical shortcomings of the Overlaods, and it’s no wonder most people hate them.
Hmm, sorry, wasn’t sarcastic, that was the selling point for me to use tempest, good to know it’s like this only for me.

With mode you mean pve pvp or wvw right? I have only saw videos on youtube, couldn’t play the bwe, not on the pc on those days… but I’m mainly a pve (98,5%) little pvp (1%) and less wvw (0,5%) so in pve modes I’d like to try that. Anyway, if all elite specs are bad I’ll keep playing with core ones no prob

i actually was excited for it as a mechanic, it just wasn’t implemented correctly for what it was offering. i don’t mind the idea of being locked into one or two attunements, like a staff ele is….if they gave us the survival tools to be able to pull it off. all overloads needed a breakbar (or shorter channel times) and maybe air and water should have been ground targeted (zerg buster/healer). the traits/utilities could also use some access to self-stability (either while overloading or tied to using shouts) to help secure a melee overload.

I have to admit, after seeing the specs I too have lost interest in them. I’m really interested in chrono and herald, though. I might try reaper too, but I don’t like playing necro anymore.
It’s a big shame that the tempest is awful. Ele is my favorite class and now I’m going to be stuck with staff with fire/air/water traits forever. I still have my fingers crossed for ele sword some time in the future…Anet pls…

many of the elites are far from bad….many are quite good in pve
chronomancer: in groups for huge alacrity/quickness uptime and boon share
herald: great solo or in group for boon gen/share and massive damage…will be meta
reaper: only tried solo, but is quite fun to play as its bring excellent aoe melee cleave that necro never had before…its new shroud skills and GS 2 skill are pretty excellent.

true, but you shouldn’t be untargetable….just should take more than one random interrupt to end the channel.

The name is enough to keep away from it.
“High concept” HURRRDURRRRR
And well I prefer to be in the thick of the fight, up close and personal protecting my allies with my body and sword etc etc etc.
Also….traps…..COME ON. Ranger wannabe.
Symbolism is important….
Depending on how Dragonhunter changes Virtue of Justice, I might not bother with it on my Guardian. I like my current burn build a lot but Dragonhunter seems very poor for condi builds, especially since removing bleeds from traps.
Condi Guards desperately need another condition, preferably one fire elementals and destroyers aren’t immune to.
