Just read the blogpost.
Looks promising, but a bit worrying.
It sounds nearly exactly like last year, as you are just hitchhiking with the twitch crew.

Will there be something done for more visibility, so you won`t mush together with the other games?

Are Crew members better detailed? Last year I wasn`t sure if it were Devs or “just” Tournament players.

Is there some kind of shedule? I read about the tournament on saturday, but nothing about the other days.

Is there a list of people who are attending?

I would be grateful for some more info

OMG, You did the BW1 during gamescom?!?

On the up side, i managed to borrow a laptop so i could play when not on the con.
Laptop is subpar though, but at least i can play.
And no ticket for saterday does mean i can play in the BW1 on saterday.
And I’ll be home on monday so i can play those last hours too.

But gamescom better be more epic than the BW1 though!
Though i’m sure they’ll have demo stations at gamescom… right?…right?

I’ll be missing out on the pvp tournament, since its on saterday this time. (why not sunday???)

Well, looks like its going to be epic.

I’ll be missing out on the pvp tournament, since its on saterday this time. (why not sunday???)

Generally the Saturday of a weekend con is the day full of the most energy for the attendees and the presenters. Friday is distracted by the logistics of arrival and registration, hotel check in, etc, Sunday people are tired and perhaps having to check out of their hotels and even leaving in the afternoon because they have to be ready to work Monday morning. So Saturday is prime real estate for presenting the cool stuff and getting the most attention for it.

That would be true if the con was a fri – sun event but its a thur-sun event.
Still, i’m just complaining since the saterday tickets have been sold out for months. they sold out in April i believe so yea :P

Even four day cons still have people arriving on Friday after work. And Sunday is still a day when things will wind down, energy will be drained, and people will be leaving instead of excitedly packing in to panels.

I didn’t realize GamesCom was done only in day passes, though. My con experience has been in SF and LARP cons, and while you can get day passes for those I’ve always booked the whole weekend.

Yea, my experiance with other con’s are also, me buying whole weekend tickets.
But Gamescom has always been just day tickets. To get a whole event you need to buy four day tickets. I just missed out on Saterday.
Still, now i have a chance to play a lil bit with the BW1 while at my hotel on Saterday.
+Twitch will stream everything anyway.

Idle question, Gaile: Do people playing the demo get to log on with their own accounts if they want? Possibly bring in their own gaming mice to plug in?

I know that I would be screwed if I played a demo with default settings and a two button mouse because all my muscle memory involves my preferred keys and my HEX. Since the demo time is limited there’s not much room to alter all that to personal preferences.

Though I guess a hacker could shove malware in via a mouse driver download, somehow.

We’ll have setups at the booth and accounts specifically made for the gamescom experience. Those who visit the booth will get access to the BWE throughout the show, so obviously we can’t enable that on someone’s personal account. We wouldn’t be able to allow added hardware, sorry.

That “you” had better be readers in general. I’m in the DC area and my passport expired long years ago … no GamesCom for me ‘tis why it was an idle question only. Just in case, y’know, you guys ever come somewhere reachable from DC.

So heres my Gamescom 2015 Feedback for yesterday:

Was yesterday there and must say first – man was it extremely full there already, absolutely not compareable with the last years I was there, it had really Weekend Level in regard of the density of people…and it was just Thursday…

Went in, after first an hour of waiting to get my stupid colored wristband in a long slow waiting line in midsts of the hot sun, the responmsible people for that at the tradefair were even so idiotic not to think about that, that yesterday was a very hot day for Germany rather typical mild weather normally (35°!!!) not to place there into the waiting lines some parasols to provide at least some shadow there not to stand all the time in the full bright sun…. but mainly there was an ambulance standing in the near, for those, for which it was already too late >.< /facepalm…. 5 minutes later and it was already driving away with alarm on ….as if I wouldn’t have said it out loud, that exactly that would happen …

But further..after that hour of waiting to get in with that wristband, I naturally wanted to go first as quickly as possible to the Guild Wars 2 stand, which normally is always in Hall 9. So I went there, just to get massively confused at first….

Where the hell are they???
For that question to understand it isn’t just enough to know, that they normally are always in Hall 9, but the last years when ANet was there, you were also always able to RECOGNIZE that they are there at the very first feet setted in place of that hall – and this year? Nothing!! No GW2 Banners even outside of the Hall that tell people that they are in Hall 9. This years Budget for the GC must have been really low I guess.

I was at first so confused about this, that i really started believing, that they maybe are this year for whichever reason in one of the other halls…so I quickly checked up the other halls in the row of 6, 7 ,then 8, just to be disappointed to find them nowhere…
So I went back to Hall 9, in case I might have overseen something…and then after a few minutes of searchign (and fighting agaisnt the masses of people to get a way through >.<, cause masses of people tend to receive mass slowness/dumbness of moving around like headless chicken, able to move, but unable to think for 2 cent where to move and not caring for their surroundings anymore… sigh) I was finally able to find the Guild Wars 2 stand and I was SHOCKED by it, how super SMALL it is this year, hidden in a corner, where you simply aren’t able to see it from any hall entrance, halfway tarned as Twitch Stand… and everything that I saw at first were only 2 rows of monitors for the GW2 Demo…

So I asked the first best Dev I could find (but sadly didn’t know her name), if thats everything and if it is maybe possible to find somewhere a kind of Schedule for the coming days, or if she could tell me the Schedule for that…

The answer was pretty straight forward and simple… GW2 Demo all days long …and for 6PM there was a Stream Session for GW2, but at that point I was already so exhausted and hungry at that day, that I was eating something and taking a break from what exhausted me yesterday the most. – Well it was worth it at the end, but I’d do it not again, even if someone asks me nice …even if its a hot tradefair babe in almost no clothes, that run yesterday around in masses that it was hard to concentrate oneself sometimes xD – the answer would be no, not again.

It gave yesterday GW2 booth in form of receiveable GW2 HoT T-Shirts+Keybands.
to get them, all you had to do is playing the GW2 Demo.
Easier said, than done …

…cause you had to go into a waiting line naturally, one that wasn#t really long also too at first sight…from what I heard nearby people talking, that were talking with Ramon Domke, our German Community Manager at place I heard something about, that it would take approximately 2 hours at our spot to get to play the Demo …
So 2 hours sounds fine…. it became sadly nearly 5 hours!!!

And nothing is worser than to wait 5 hours, where you can’t leave the spot for getting somethign to eat or so, cause you’d instantly lose your position… 5 hours waiting for like 15-20 mins of Demo and the Shirt.
Well, its a very nice looking shirt and it alone was far more worth the waiting, than playing the Demo, cause playing the Demo could I do also today at home without all that trouble around me xD. After that exhausting waiting, I needed first somethign to eat n drink and went then over to the FF15 Stand for the rest of the day

So this was my yesterdays GC15 experience, went home at around quarter past 7pm.

Oh yeah, and saw yesterday Gaile and Regina for a moment together at giving out the Shirts but didn’t dare to ask her the fun question if she had today already eaten some Apfelstrudel lol.
In any case, she hasn’t yet, she will definetly have her chance today hehe at 8PM

But to the important question ~ahem~ Yes, I had the recommended apfelstreudel (am I spelling that properly?) with the vanilla sauce. It was delicious!! Also some wonderful stroopwaffel were gifted to us. Thank you!

I’m hoping to meet a lot more GW2 players today. I’m on the afternoon shift starting at 3 PM.

Nice to hear that you had one already.
And you spelled it nearly correctly, 1 E lesser, Apfelstr*e*udel, but you can simply also say Apple Strudel, works both.

Yeah, the Show self is amazing as usual, alot of cosplaying people have I seen yesterday again also from a Marjory Delaqua to Wakka from FF10 over to the typical Itachi from Naruto in Akatsuki Clothes.
Then I saw an awesome female version of Inuyasha running around, then I saw various cute Cat Girls of Games/Animes I don’t know (did I mention already that alot ran around there nearly half nude?, I’m sure I did cause it was insane this year, screaming basically Look at Me xD)
Gamescom is known since its begining to have there every year also tons of Cosplayers and its always nice to run into a bunch of them that like to be photographed also (with you naturally) ^^)
Sadly I forgot my Iphone to take with me, or I surely would have made some pictures yesterday ^^

See you later on the afternoon shift and after the show

Oh yes, that Marjory Delaqua was simply amazing! I agree that the waiting queu was really long though, Orpheal and when I was waiting to play the demo there was some confusion as in the morning the devs present told us the demo was only 10 minutes, to avoid long waiting queus, in the afternoon the devs changed it back to 20 minutes which instantly made the waiting so much longer.

That said, I’m glad I could play it, even for just 20 minutes and the T-shirt is simply awesome! Hopefully I’ll be able to attend again next year and maybe the booth will be just that little bit bigger

Hey folks,

I would really like to know what you think about Guild Wars 2’s presence at the Gamescom in cologne.

My opinion:
I was unbelievably frustrated! I have no idea why ArenaNet made such a shy appereance. I would rent a complete hall, provide entertainment the whole time, don’t skimp on goodies, make a big – a REALLY BIG show. Everyone at the Gamescom should know that Guild Wars 2 is there and that something big is coming!
How it really was you ask? A small booth, Twitch.com, 10 PC’s, many fans. 10 minutes after the opening the waiting time to play was about 5 hours. Goodies were also only available for those who played the demo – whether they already bought HoT or not.
My personal highlight… friday… I waited more than 2 hours to get a shirt. When I was the next in line it was already 8 o’clock. The Gamescom was already closing and they refused give me a shirt, although they still had some available.

I ask you ArenaNet, what kind of image do you aim for? You presented an unimportand and boring game without any value. That’s how I personally saw it. I really like the game but this attitude of yours is just… meek. You had so many options, you could’ve made a huge appearance, people who never heard of the game could’ve talked about you.
But no, you rather sit there and watch the guests passing by. It seems like you just took the cheapest booth that was available and that’s it. You did almost nothing for your current fans, didn’t show interest in getting new ones ones and made it seem ridiculous.
That’s not what I expected – I’m deeply disappointed. There were many people that couldn’t even find you. What do you expect from a performance like this? Definitely nothing good, I can’t explain it otherwise.

Yeah the booth wasn’t all that impressive. I ended up not going there, partly due to the long waiting time and partly due my group being not very interested, so I rather went with them instead of waiting for hours alone in a queue. I just came back in time to get a taste of HoT from the BWE.
That said the party was awesome. Shout out to everyone else that was there.

It took me maybe 5 minutes to find the GW2/Twitch booth? Because I KNEW before hand they had partnerd up for it. I Could have looked up their spot on the website, but i was being lazy.
I knew the line would be long, since everybody would want to play
So i came prepared with a book and my DS. (Seas of Sorrows, if you’re wondering)
While in line, i played Streetpass and read.
After enjoying the demo (not the beta i think, cus it had some audio bugs i didn’t encounter in the beta.)
I got my T-shirt and lanyard.
I would deliver some stroopwaffels and spend what time i had left in a nice spot streetpassing away.

Thats basically what i did all 3 days i was at gamescom. And it was awesome!

Went to Gamescom 3 days and played GW2 all 3 days. We had to wait quite some time but it was worth it.

The demo was a lot of fun, on the third day we fully completed it! We met some new ingame friends while waiting in line.

Last year I managed to obtain my Charrlie, this year my friend got one aswel! So mine is not lonely anymore. (Next year a quaggan plushie? ^wink wink^)

The only thing I’m (just a tiny bit) bummed about is that they had no ‘female’ t-shirts. However I love the design and the colors and I can imagine that having both male and female t-shirts would require a lot of work.

Gaile it was lovely to meet you! Next year I’ll make sure to bring you some liquorice. I love our picture together and I hope to see you again next year at Gamescom!

I had a blast meeting all the devs at Gamescom today, I had some really nice chats with them and met some awesome people! Thanks again!

Thank you for stopping by. It was great to meet you.

It was fantastic meeting you. And thank you and the many others who so generously shared the stroopwaffels. I didn’t open a single package but co-workers and I brought them back to the studio where they were much appreciated!

HAH LOL! Here I am sitting at Oslo Gardermoen, waiting for a plane that never arrives Waited for 20 hours now. I hope that I will make it there. Well, at least I shall have a fun time with the beta.

Yikes! Thomas, you did make it, right?

As gamescon is bout to end just wanted pop in and advice the team to get some Reissdorf Kölsch. It is a german local beer from the cologne area and tastes really good. Didn’t had time to go to gamescon this year, but maybe next year. Hope you had a great time, looking at the posts here it sure seems it was!

The thing about Kölsch is that not only is it really tasty, it’s also very hydrating. After a day with 35/95 degree temperatures in the Messe, I admit that Kölsch was my salvation.

GamesCom was nice, been at the GW2 stand (and played) 3 times. Waiting time was huge lol, and I did also meet some nice other GW2 players.

See you next year.

It was super to see you, and know you were getting your goodies and playing often! Thanks for being so patient and so supportive of the team and the game!

Convinced my cousin to wait in line first thing in the morning on Saturday. We got Charrlie and T-shirt eventually \o/.
For my first big convention i had great time there, seems waiting in lines is part of experience.
Cheers from Croatia.

I think our swag was the best at the show. Glad you have a Charrlie to enjoy forever. Thanks for stopping by.

Went to Gamescom 3 days and played GW2 all 3 days. We had to wait quite some time but it was worth it.

The demo was a lot of fun, on the third day we fully completed it! We met some new ingame friends while waiting in line.

Lovely to meet you, as well! And I’m so happy that you liked the goodies. I was very proud of what we offered. Particularly a demo that, as one early player commented, was “very smooth and polished; a delight to play.”
