That_shaman datamined some upcoming items which highly suggests we’ll be getting a warhorn, just look at the design (currently labelled as “ascended warhorn”). I would be very disappointed, to say the least. ;_;
As of this time this is more speculation than anything else. What if ANet decides to make amazing ascended weapons of every type but most are not in the game files yet?

i’m probably not the first to say this but, what do you have to go on that isn’t a picture of an ascended warhorn?

Well, from that link the ascended LB is for sure the Dragonhunter LB, the ascended greatsword is the Reaper GS, so the chances of the war horn be the weapon of an elite specialization is high, specially one called Tempest.
BTW, I also wish to use sword with my ele, and Tempest was one of my favorite D&D 3.5 prestige class.

Why would a new warhorn skin indicate that ele’s are getting warhorns? I don’t see how that follows.
Because the ele elite specialization is Tempest and the new warhorn has a wind theme to it. The Guardian is Dragonhunter and the new longbow has a dragon head on it.

So far all the elite weapons – both shown and datamined – have been either two-hand (staff, hammer, greatsword, longbow) or off-hand only (shield), unless I’ve missed something.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but we also don’t know the Revenant’s elite spec yet? Might be they get the warhorn.
Dear god, I hope they do ._. I have a brand new flaming sword in my bank vault for my ele, which I will have no need for if they get warhorn. So I might just throw it at someone. Maybe.

So both mesmer and revenant get shield, which means that thieves whacking things with a staff aren’t completely off the table. Good to know.

What if ele gets warhorn and it turns out to be awesome? Like a skill that summons armies of crazed elementals or conjures a small hurricane?
Personally, I’m going to wait until we actually get the spec reveal to declare that the sky is falling.

Seriously, on ele, so many autoattacks are projectiles, it’s not even funny. A sword would just be a nice addition to our weapons collection, as a melee weapon first and magical gizmo second.

I was hoping we’d get longbow or greatsword, not sword or warhorn. If I wanted up-close combat I’d use dagger/dagger. An elementalist is supposed to hit from afar, it ain’t a frikkin warrior >_<
If we do get sword or warhorn, I simply won’t use the ele specialisation. Same with necro and their up-close-combat greatsword and fetish for the chill condition. There are other conditions y’know… >_<
Yes I have heard of battle mages, I had them in Runescape. But battle mage isn’t the ele specialisation, it’s tempest. We already have daggers for close combat. If I wanted up close combat I’d play warrior or guardian. And I don’t like having to sacrifice one of my already limited utility slots (1 of them permanently being the 25% run signet for speed, since Anet won’t provide a trait for ALL professions for decent movement speed – I’m looking at you in particular, Mesmer, although fortunately the chronomancer spec will have this – just a shame all professions don’t have it) for a temporary, summoned weapon.
I just don’t like the concept of these up-close-combat weapons for a class that is supposed to be long-range.

I wouldn’t be opposed to warhorn, I suppose. Might be interesting. I can sort of agree with others that another main hand would be very handy, but I’m really not a melee type person. So that sort of makes sword “meh” for me.
I’m a bit more interested in the new 6 – 0 skills tempest will get though.

I think the staff may be for Thief (along with Druid and Revenant’s ventari legend), as shown in this recent picture datamined. Though like you say, it could simply be for a new skill or trait, so it’s not 100% reliable as the class specific weapon. I was kinda hoping Warrior would get staff, being as they have MANY close-ranged weapons.

Where were we told that each spec gets a different weapon? I thought that was just speculation.
Man…. this topic is consuming so much of the debate in the forums that the fact ANET does not comment at all on new specs reveals and neither on this ever so growing rumor makes me very very worried it might just be true.
I am 100% positive that if we get warhorn it will not be a pleasant surprise like the chronomancer who got a supposedly “bad” off hand but ended being the best specialization we have seen yet (although I like the other 2 as well).
If it ends up being a warhorn elementalist spec, it will be the joke specialization, mark my words.

Kinda wishing for Mantra’s to be honest. Kinda works too, since Mantra’s are of magical nature
I’m more intrigued by an Ele using a Warhorn than one using a Sword. Swords are a crowd pleaser but they are fairly generic. There are so many other weapon types other than the Sword which often get overlooked, that I’m glad that they are looking elsewhere. I actually hope that we don’t get to the point where every profession has a spec that uses the sword or greatsword.
At the end of the day it really should be about the skills, so although the Warhorn doesn’t have all that many flashy skins, it might just be really useful. Another plus is that they might start making some nice Warhorn skins due to the new demand.
I mean, ele already has dagger and focus with a pretty solid skillset on each,
We have a 450 mid range weapon, a 900 skirmishing range weapon, and a 1200 range artillery weapon, what we need is a true melee option that doesn’t have to be recast every minute, without dropping half the charges on the floor where someone else will probably pick them up, and that isn’t going to be nerfed into oblivion.. oh and having more than just air attunement for it would be nice too.
Honestly blowing a horn and generating storm effects seems really fitting to me. Maybe its just some old D&D horn of blasting gaming DNA floating around, but I’m largely looking forward to it.

I always found that elementalist had the most balanced choices regarding ranged. Staff is not even that versatile on long range. I think either range would work fine

What’s wrong with warhorns? It’s the skills they put on them that matter.
It’s just the QQ-culture. Just wait until they reveal some more specializations: The people will cry over the Warriors/Thiefs Name, weapon choices etc. Dozens of threads, “I quit this game” “so no HOT for me”. Like the rest of us or the devs care.
The warhorn skin looks quite cool tbh and its really fitting a “tempest” theme.
