Hmmm…. maybe siding with ol’ Mordy would help me to achieve that?

@xXLuggXx
That happened, it was part of “the greatest fear” storyline.

Anyway I think it’s quite likely that Mordremoth is the nightmare and those sylvari who are loyal to the dream and the pale tree are immune to Mordremoth (so all PC sylvari).

I’m affraid you are right.

I’d rather enjoy the death of Marjory and her barbie doll with no personality.

Not gonna happen. Yknow why? Because she will most likely be the one to go for for Necros that want to learn how to (ab)use Great Swords, since she already is a Necro that uses a GS.

No. This is not gonna to happen because she is a personal projection of one of the storywriters.

Rytlock is a stupid warmonger, while Zojja is as arrogant as she is boring. Why do you want to spare these two? Besides, if my lord Voldermoth or Moldemort or what was his name again commands me, who am I to disobey?
But these two are negotiable, if Caithe dies.

Seeing how many people really dislike the main NPCs, the storywriters should consider if everything they do is OK. I played quite a few MMOs and a lot of single player CRPGs and never I experienced this. In some of the games, like FF or BaK I was really saddened to see some of the main NPCs die.

You probably haven’t play an Asura or Charr before.

Zojja actually is a very nice person, she’s just abit too sensitive and abit impulsive. But she recognize her mistake and willing to offer help all the time. (You can see it in your personal story if you choose golemancer as your story plot) She’s mean to Eir because she cares about her mentor too much. If you’re an emotional and sensitive person, you’d find Zojja’s reaction very natural. She’s also a true genius no less.

Rytlock is one of the coolest characters in game! Even the Charr highest rank leader respects him (You can see it in LS2) He’s determined, and very considerate of his comrades, that’s why he’s so mad at Logan!

How can you hate 2 of the best GW2 characters out there? Or did you simply don’t understand their lore and personality?

I just started my first Asura (and golemancer iirc) some time ago. I never played a charr and I do not plan to, since I find the whole military obsessed culture repulsive. So I know Rytlock and Zojja from the DE story only, and truth to say, I consider the DE unbearable bunch of drama queens.
But as I like asuras it can be that I will change my opinion on Zojja. Also compared to Logan, I admit that Rytlock is the better of these two.

You should worry more about Caithe because she’s the coldest and cruelest among those 5. Even in personal story she’s merciless. She’s also the most cunning of all, and able to keep secret of Mordremoth for so long. The nicest of all probably is Eir, following by Zojja (though you probably don’t know why, sigh)

Also Treaherne is one of the most emotionless and unsympathize character in the whole game. He never truly moan for anyone, thinking sacrifices is rational and reasonable and quickly move on.

No, please, continue trying to sell me on a character I can’t stand, from a race I barely tolerate because they make useful things.

I do not like asura as a whole. Vekk was an odd one out because he treated us a lot more like a partner than someone to be used or just pointed in the right direction and let loose. All the others I recall? I work with them because I have to, not because I like it.

. . . and Zojja makes me want to bury an axe in her skull for most of the Personal Story and for a good section of the story instances in the Dungeons where she is present. It’s the attitude.

I don’t worry about Caithe. I’m getting tutored on how to handle thieves in WvW, so soon she’ll be less of a problem.

As for Trahearne, I’m one of the few people who would rather he not die at all. Just go retire from the Marshal position and return to Orr to focus on the cleanup. Give command to the next most deserving person in Tyria.

This edit snuck in, but I’ll respond to it anyway.

. . . I agree with the sentiment of sacrifices being necessary, and a loss of a few is worth the futures of an infinite number of potential lives. Every lost life matters, but it’s only truly senseless if they die for nothing.

At least, that’s how Tobias and Garah see matters. (A human and a charr agreeing, mmmph, their ancestors would be screaming in the Mists right now….)

Well yeah, he is. But this is, I believe, intentional, and since he feels like that, they did a good job on him. He should be a cold scholar and administrator, and not showing much emotions. He would not make a great drinking buddy, but I can easily imagine to cooperate with him. Why not. I also liked his dialogues.

Bah, Treaherne just needs more character development that is more reflective upon his actions rather than being a satellite character for our personal story, the same could be reflective towards Kormir. I mean seriously did anyone complain about the chaotic relationship between Cyn and Mhenlo… absolutely not… Why you ask because they were interacting with one another and there was conflict. The same could be said about the Hench NPC’s in EOTN they just stood around in one spot, but they were depicted having expressions and emotions which actually made you stop and look to see what was going on. The Npc’s in GW2 they move around, good. Say the same thing towards one another, not so good… Conflict, none…? Where’s the story?

It baffles me why the writers decided that corruption (dragon or Nightmare Court) is a one-way street. The greatest stories are redemption stories, and there’s so much more room for interesting character development if it is possible (evem if almost impossible) to bring someone back from darkness.

Imagine Star Wars if the decision had been made that no one could ever be redeemed from the dark side of the Force. :P

Hey, now. A lot of us are not on the “I hate Traeherne” team!

And you’re just wrong.

(j/k)

I don’t hate Trehearne, but I do think he should be forced to live out the rest of his life in or near the site of his great triumph or his solution will wither and die in his absence.

That character’s is completely lacking in sacrifice. Being nailed to the ritual site would add a ton of texture and give a reason for him to turn over control of the Pact to the Order leaders/commanders. Who can stop acting like spoiled children any day now.

After the Battle with Zhaitan aboard one airship out of dozens of others filled with commander teams, I think understand what the devs were going for. It was a pretty awe-inspiring moment to realise that you were part of something huge taking place. The ending was still a little anti-climatic, but the atmosphere was there.

I started off neutral with Trahearne, not greatly attached to my mentor from the Priory though my eyes did get teary, corny a death as it was. He and my human had a common goal, and I was interested in how his own story was developing alongside mine.

Written-wise glaring flaws started after around ‘Forging the Pact’ and I can only narrow it down to poor attention paid to the whole process, not to mention the game-play and presentation not complementing each other well enough.

Whatever was going on, Trahearne does encourage you continuously and has unwavering faith in you.

I felt sad after talking to him at the World Council in The Grove (never played Season 1) and seeing that he has distanced himself from you (or you from him). You don’t deserve to be second-in-command of the Pact at that point, because you really have no say in how it is being run or even know what is going on with it. Even when going after Zhaitan options are being presented to your character, you are not actually coming up with anything that hasn’t gone through channels like the Priory/Vigil/Whisper/Trahearne first; you’re just the one chosen to command.

To relate more to the OP, I don’t hate any character I’ve seen here, but I’m tired of my current ‘De2 cohort’, Braham excepted.

So… in the cinematic at the end of living story (Spoiler alert) we saw that all sylvari who were on the pact ships turned against everybody else. Their eyes started glowing red and they were possesed by Mordremoth’s will. Some say it was because they were not protected by the pale tree’s influence since she was wounded and weak.
Now connect those facts:
1.All sylvari on pact ships are corrupted.
2.After that there is no return- you cannot go back to normal, you are a mordrem now forever.
3.Traeherne was also on one of these ships

I really hope we will have the opportunity to fight and maybe even kill him

Not all sylvari involved with the Pact assault on Mordremoth were corrupted. Many were, but not all of them.

I assume that has to do with the Mother Tree’s weakened state and the personal will/mental fortitude of the individual sylvari.

Sylvari who draw near to and believe in the Dream and the ideals of their mother are far more likely to resist Mordremoth than say the sylvari of the Nightmare Court or the Soundless.

The Nightmare Court might as well be “free minions for Mordremoth”, but it’ll be especially tragic for the Soundless sylvari… they just wanted to be neutral.

The Pale Tree gave them that freedom. Mordremoth won’t be so accommodating.

I think it really depends on the individual and their faith.

If you’re strong minded and choose to follow after the dream of the sylvari, the Mother Tree and the teachings of Ventari, you’re likely to keep it together against Mordremoth.

If the sylvari in question were Soundless or Nightmare Court, they’re pretty much doomed to be mordrem.

Considering that the Pact air assault was literally right over Mordremoth, it’s no surprise many sylvari were corrupted.

I don’t believe that all the sylvari (regardless of their ‘birth’) present at the assault on Mordremoth were lost to him, but many otherwise faithful and decent sylvari were.

It certainly wasn’t an odd one off thing or a few Soundless, the Pact fleet was dealt a significant blow.

With the Mother Tree weakened right now, weaker wills and lesser constitutions are at risk of being taken by Mordremoth.

I think what I hate about Trahearn is that he appears in every single personal story in exactly the same way, no matter which race you chose.
The story was totally fine to me the first time. Trahearn was an ok dude. But then came the time I started rolling alts with different backgrounds. The first part of the stories were always awesome !
And then you see Trahearn… and you know you’ll have to repeat the same second half again… slowly, his voice starts to get somewhat irritating… at some points you wish you could go on without having to rez him… and when you roll your 5th character you wish you could join the arisen and kill him yourself.

3. Having played through the story, I still don’t know why people dislike him. He didn’t hog all the glory like I keep being told. Just seems like xenophobia and racism. I find the Asura, who tortured and murdered Sylvari children, far more annoying. Wouldn’t mind a few of them being killed off.
