Will it be possible to do GvGs in Guild Halls?

Short answer is we don’t know yet.

There is no true “GvG” …. there is going to be a new pvp game type called stronghold.

Sure guilds can compete in Stronghold matches…… but it is no more of a GvG than Getting your guildmates to queue up for spvp right now.

(Save for the nostalgic playstyle of the game mode and win/loss conditions)

Pretty sure for people who have played through the first guild wars, Stronghold IS GvG.

A bunch of people who joined in guild wars 2 and want to stack charge each other just used the term and seem to think it’s “True” GvG.

15s and 20s is the true GvG in GW2. This isn’t GW1, it’s GW2, and because of the WvW mode guilds have always done GvGs with either 15 or 20s. Still didn’t answer my question about Guild Halls though, and how many can each team be in Stronghold, 5v5? 8v8? 10v10?

Guild Wars 2 has no gvg. Its just Wars 2.

I Agree Stronghold is not the way Gw2 players think of GvG.
But Stronghold isn’t Gw1 GvG either.

Stronghold is simply a new pvp gametype.

Keyword can.

It is not limited to Guilds.
It does not take place in Guild Halls.
It is just a new pvp game mode that anyone (including guilds) can participate in.

While stronghold pvp may have some nostalgic features reminiscent of Gw1 gvg….. it is just another pvp game mode, and not actually GvG.

Anet is not giving us GvG, they are giving us Stronghold.

They named this new pvp game mode Stronghold because they do not want to call it GvG.

They do not want to call it GvG because the way Stronghold “could” be GvG is literally no different than the way current spvp “could” be GvG.

All players…. guilds included… can compete in stronghold pvp.

They are not giving us any GvG elements that haven’t already been in the game…. and Stronghold is just stronghold…. a new type of pvp.

People are reading things between the lines that simply aren’t there… and Anet is doing it on purpose.

You’re correct. Although guild wars 2 is the next part of the series it isn’t balanced around 8v8 like guild wars 1. It’s balanced around 5v5.

The hard reality is your zerg stacking version of “GvG” is mostly reliant on gear and the aoe cap, Having a game mode built around that would be stupid.

5v5 is there for guilds to compete, This is where you can truely shine if your as good a guild as people claim they are. The game is balanced around 5v5 and spvp. If you can’t accept that then you’re playing the wrong game m’afraid.

And you can still go to the arena in OS to duke it out in your own private league of GvG. Nothing changes in that sense.

Anything else than a controlled environment such as sPvP would not be a good base for any “serious” GvG.

5v5 is sPvP, not GvG, and since Anet didn’t give us a GvG mode in GW2, the fans made their own version, which is working great for those interested in it. We got Obsidian Sanctum at least, maybe we should just be happy with that and look forward to how the specializations and new class can change the GvG meta.
