Legendary is not a god kitten new tier. Jesus. It’s the same stats as ascended. The same. The only thing the legendary armor has is the convenience feature of stat switching. But even then you still have to switch those runes out just the same too. Hell, if anything it’s more convenient to have two sets of ascended gear than to have the legendary.

What it comes down to is people being mad that they can’t have a new shiny skin and that they have to do specific content for such a reward.

if legendary were not above ascended as in a higher tier then we wouldn’t all go that extra mile for it now would we.

The non rezzing behaviour may have been in WvW and PvP but not in PvE and the content we’re talking about here is PvE. The system has simply given people an excuse to not rez.
Expect it to become prevalent throughout the game now, followed by rewards based on damage done and that baloney.

Players pressed into a smaller space would increase rezzing not reduce it and we are not pressed at all. Many maps are basically empty.

Legendary armor is a new tier of armor made available with HoT.

Tiers of gear in MMOs are always by STATS. You don’t need that legendary armor. Ascended gear is the highest stat armor in the game. If you are an extreme min/max person ascended works just fine. Shiny skins and a convenience item does not make a new tier. And it’s not even that convenient considering you still need to switch out infusions and runes.

You go the extra mile because of the shiny skin.

Perhaps you do so, but others may not. Some even transmute over the skin because they consider legendaries, in general, to be unappealing of appearance.

It isn’t. The hilarious thing about this is that I think this guy said he has two sets of ascended. That’s technically BETTER than having a set of legendary gear because then you don’t have to worry about switching rune sets out constantly.

We are playing, and speaking of, GW2, not, “any MMO out there.”

GW2 was purposefully created, and advertised, to not be quite like every MMO on the market. Sure there are similarities, perhaps those similarities have grown over time, but the intention and design are still there.

Is the armor reward for raiding in every MMO out there statistically identical to armor earned in open world content?

When Anet is talking about gear tiers and gear grind and gear treadmills (as you see in the videos) they are NOT talking about treadmills for pretty skins/convenience. They are talking about the traditional gear treadmill that you see in most MMOs. Hence why they make the statement that they don’t want to invalidate your hard work and that your gear which was best in slot today will still be best in slot tomorrow. They are talking about stats people. STATS.

This does not address my point. Nor does it answer my question.

You used a variant of the, “other games do it this way,” argument. I pointed out that Anet has specifically tried to not do everything the way other games do.

So, does every other mmo have endgame raid reward armor statistically identical to gear obtainable through open world content?

Or has Anet demonstrated, through legendary armor implementation, that they are purposefully not treating endgame armor gain the same as other games?

And, since it is a demonstrable fact that Anet is treating endgame armor differently than other games, it is not irrelevant how such armor tiers are handled in those other games.

I mentioned that it’s the MMO standard for definitions of tiers of gear because that is the definiton Anet is using themselves. So people shouldn’t be shocked and accuse them of lying. They have still stuck to exactly what they said (so far…if they actually add a new tier of gear with better stats then obviously they will be breaking their word). You can bring up how they are special snowflakes in numerous regards but that doesn’t change the fact that they themselves use this particular term in this particular manner.

You are the one ignoring the fact that there is no stat difference and that is what makes a kitten tier a tier. That is what creates a gear treadmill to begin with. NONE of your current work has been invalidated. This is especially true in your case where you admitted your warr has TWO sets of ascended gear, which is even more convenient then having legendary because you don’t have to worry about rune swaps. You want a shiny new skin, well you need to do the content that rewards it.

You are the one that said that you think you should get high prestige items because you throw money at the game. The whole point of a prestige item is that you cannot get it easily and that it is rewarded for work. Getting around that with money would destroy the whole idea behind it. Even Anet admitted allowing old legendaries and precursors to be boe was a huge mistake and they said they will rectify this with all future legendaries. They will not be boe ever again.

Just because you chose to sink tons of money into this game does not mean you deserve everything in the game. Certain rewards require you complete certain content. If you want the new legendary back piece you need to do pvp. If you want that teq weapon you need to do tequatl. If you want the new legendary armors you need to raid. Now who knows, maybe they will come up with a legendary armor collection that does not require raiding. But if they do it won’t be the same as the one the raiders get, it would probably have a different skin. For now though, if you want that armor you need to get your kitten in raids.

Back on track with the main topic, I have to disagree with you OP, as some who has map completed the 4 zones on 3 characters pretty much solo… I don’t see where the difficulty is coming from? I can honestly say 90% of the new hero points can be soloed in a few tries with the right setup. Tangled depths has maybe 2 that u need to duo… you don’t need anywhere near 15-20 players… most of the Champs are quite easy to solo if you can break their breaker bar. The guano incubated eggs with spider champion is among the easiest to solo…,

That aside I will say I agree the community has changed for the worse…. no one wants to step up to a little challenge or change their builds to be viable to literally face roll the jungle… everyone seems to want everything to be way easier then it already is… but the problem with that is people are soloing the same content that you are claiming need 15 ppl to do. It’s getting toxic and absurd how much people are QQing about the very content they demanded not but 1 year ago… people were begging for more challenging content and 10 man raids…. we got it and everyone is now up in arms they want it removed… MAKE UP YOUR MINDS

But all ANET did was give the players what they were asking for. Look through the old forums posts…

people asked for raids or harder 10 man dungeons,

people were asking for challenging content that wasn’t as face roll easy as old tyria maps (which the new content is only a little harder ie more punishing for not paying attention to mobs abilities or surroundings)

people asked for new wvw maps and new mechanics to go with them

People asked for pvp leader boards and tournaments / leagues.

They asked for new ways to play there classes…..

So I’m not sure how ANET lied… or didn’t deliver every single thing these forums were begging for since 2013. ANET originally stated they would never do expansions in a interview and the forums exploded saying GW2 was more than worthy for expansion like the orginal guildwars… I mean what did yall want if not everything you asked for and they delivered….

And eldrin as far as you feeling gated from content (legendary armor tied to raids) due to medical issues (I am aware of the issues you are mentioning, from your other posts) you are still more then able to aquire said gear… if your guilds won’t take due to your limitations you can always pug raids to get practice to get better to run with your guilds, or even beat it with pugs, if are 100% unable to overcome the challenge raids are giving you (ie can’t get mechanics down due to personal reasons) wait a bit and Guilds will sell raid boss kills…. I have 100% zero doubt that will be happening soon, it’s just like Arah at launch…. organized groups could barely get thorough it in a timely manner, now 1 guy can solo it and sell 4 spots to ppl who have trouble with it. Same will happen with raids where really good guilds will sell raid spots for gold.

So they hardly lied to you or are keeping content from you.

Of course it’s best in slot. So is Ascended. The Defense ratings and the stats are the same.

Today. However Legendary is promised to be the best tier tomorrow, while ascended isn’t.

And in case you don’t know, Gear Tier is a term specific to MMO’s. It specifically means sets of gear with higher stats than the older sets.

Yes …in other MMOs. In gw2, Legendary is a higher tier than ascended, even if the stats are currently the same.

When ANet promised no new gear tier, they meant no new gear with higher stats, not no Legendary items valued for their skins. They also said no level cap increase, which has the same effect — making one’s current stats obsolete.

Agreed. Additionally, Anet actually never promised anything like that for the whole future of the game – just for their closest expansion (HoT). Technically Raids were introduced after HoT, so they wouldn’t be bound by this promise anyway.

Still, gating a whole gear tier beyond a content designed for a small minority was a really bad decision.

Actions, not words.

The community has changed because Anet has split it apart with HoT.

The 4 Maps shipped with HoT are just a constant grind. “want this? Grind that.” “oh you want this? Grind that!” once you’ve done the story, it literally boils down to grinding the same events over and over again in the same 4 maps in the same way because they’re linked in such a way that an idiot can’t get lost.
Combine it with arguably the most poorly designed WvW map, on top of the most broken meta the games ever had in GW2 since launch in PvP, and it’s no wonder people are getting frustrated and taking out their anger on their fellow players.

Anet’s entire mindset with the game has changed since launch, and not for the better, you can look at every decision they’ve made so far and you can literally go “Yeah that was done to boost gem sales.”

Previously it seemed like they actually cared about the game and it’s community and promoted healthy play, but now, they just keep pushing kitten into the gem store, give us stupid “roadmaps for the years ahead” (4 major balance patches a YEAR when they want this game to be esports as an example) they want to gravitate away from the “zerk meta” yet they wholy promote it in raids with the incredibly strict enrage timers.

And in response to the “ascended was promised as the final tier” it is.
Legendary armor isn’t going to have more stats over Ascended. Ascended is still the final tier as far as stats are concerned.

When you compare other games expansions to what was contained in the base game, you have to look at HoT and assume that you’ve payed what you would for an expansion, for something that’s on DLC levels.

Seriously, compare the amount of content in HoT to any other MMO’s expansion pack, it’s drastically less content.

Hell, look at EQ2, that games mostly dead yet it still manages to churn out more content in it’s expansion packs than HoT did.

Yes, because all legendary weapons out right now have been earned on an epic quest, and not on the TP or by simply falling over them after a valuable pre dropped from a random mob, or because people cashed in to buy their chosen legendary. Right? No? Strange enough.

The claim that an earned good is much better than a bought good is also nonsense if they have the same quality.
Pro Sports for example could not exist if people who are not good at sports would pay to see people who are good at sports play it and take them in with their performance for the feeling that they are part of the team with their financial and mental support. Imagine Christiano Ronaldo or Kobe Bryant saying that everyone who is unable to win the soccer or basketball championship is a scrub and should work harder at their skills. To further this idea, the next chamionship willl be held on the K7 and people have to climb it to watch it.
Luckily, this will never happen. Both will instead thank their fans for their support and advise the kids to stay helathy and play the game for fun, not for success.

A complaint about Heart of Thorns is just an element of the overall gaming experience for this or that person. There are small complaints we don’t need to be immediately concerned with, “Like the size of a fireball,” and there are immediate concerns that will linger, “Whether or not those of us having a hard time with the raids will remain part of the game’s objective consumer demographic.”

The wider issue here is geometric. If your character is the center of your universe in Guild Wars 2 (rationally it must be) then your character being gated from content that would progress that character it must be understood the game’s design has removed you from playing further.

This can have to do with anything. Legendary Armor, Masteries gated behind hours and hours of painfully bad story writing and the achievements to get them, grouping with others who may not have the time to group with you, not having the hours to play as the game demands, and paying for something that someone else doesn’t and won’t have to (the base game).

Heart of Thorns fundamentally changed Guild Wars 2 from game into ‘content ride’ and then grind until the next time Anet/NcSoft feels pressured to make something.

Yes, because all legendary weapons out right now have been earned on an epic quest, and not on the TP or by simply falling over them after a valuable pre dropped from a random mob, or because people cashed in to buy their chosen legendary. Right? No? Strange enough.

And Anet said that was a MISTAKE. Which if you notice they have since rectified by making all future legendaries account bound and not for sale on the tp.

And your analogy is off. It’s more like here is the world cup…..oh but you don’t have to actually play to win it. You can pay money and have it just handed to you! But oh that’s the same value as playing the game and earning it. Yup. Same thing. /s

You can buy an exact copy of the world championship trophy. It has the same value and function(standing around) as the original, it just lacks the prestige of the original. You supported the sports federation of your team to buy it and without your support, your team would have to find other jobs.
So you can rightfully say that you own an exact copy of the championship with all the accompanying functions, but have not won it by playing the sport. What is lacking here are history books that show who has actually won it and who has only bought it, nothing else. If that is enough for someone, why deny it to him? It is neither unfair because it is his gold or money he spent, nor unfair because someone invested time instead of money as that is everyone´s choice.

So you are saying you support p2w basically. Because people should be allowed to spend their money as they will and get whatever they want? And we shouldn’t care that it takes away from the prestige of the items in question. There are no history books or record books in mmos. The only way to distinguish people who have actually done the work from not is with the actual item. So yes, making that prestige item buyable with money degrades it. Again, thank god western gamers reject this type of thinking.

I am not exactly supporting P2W in the way you describe it. But I despise the alternative, casual but veteran players getting excluded from content, even more.

My suggestion would have been a red item for the raiders and a blue item for the non raiders. So everyone could see that the red item belongs to a content completer and the second to a buyer or grinder. Everyone would be happy.
