Q:

Maybe it is just me(please no hate here!) but does anyone else find the HoT maps boring? I understand I may be one of the only people who thinks this, but I really just fond them dull and boring. Am I missing something? Sure the rewards are ok, but I honestly seem to get more and better rewards from WvW and old Tyria. Anyone else like that?

A:

I wouldn’t say “boring”. Maybe “repetitive” mainly because they are mostly all part of something big or a meta. Tyria maps are not like this as such. Orr comes close but not really, you can sort of think of each event as a separate thing. Or maybe I just never pieced tem altogether? To this day I still don’t understand the lore to the Orr maps/events such as Malchor and such. But then again maybe I just don’t care or too lazy to go and find the info. I guess unless it’s really in my face (such as HOT story) I don’t really care too much.

Now when we come to the music in the HOT maps, boring heck no! Now if we were talking about the Tyria maps – yes. I could listen to the Auric Basin music non stop all day long. Why oh why don’t they give us the option to do so? I mean let us pick and choose which tracks to hear and have them on loop.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

You can read many opinions about the Heart of Thorns maps, both pro and con, over in the Heart of Thorns sub-forum.

Good luck.

I used to dislike the Verdant Brink map but I’ve grown to like it as my flying mastery and skills got better. Most people go for the Legendary Wyvern Matriarch fight and ignore the Legendary Wyvern Patriarch. They really should break those two up and have one at night and one in the day. I wish they would remove the haze layer to allow the players to see more of the map from the air. They may be doing that to reduce processing needed to render them though. I’d like to see ley-lines added to it to take people up at night and choppers in the day. The map would also look better with some of the Avatar like elements from the Auric Basin.

The Auric Basin is a very Avatar like map and looks amazing but everything is out to get you. Outside the city if you take it slow to admire the map and something will get you. They need to add more updrafts and ley-lines on the map.

Tangled Depths is not the best map in the world. It’s too jumbled. I think it should have been two different maps, one on top of the other rather than side by side like most maps.

Dragon’s Stand is too focused on feeding the player to the one big event. Although it is an awesome event. Much better than the actually story jungle dragon fight.

I think Tangled Depths and Dragon’s Stand would look better if they shuffled the content and created three maps out of the two. A connection between the two and a chak/Rata Novis map under both of them.

That happens if many people come to the forum to complain that everything is too hard, you get content which is faceroll easy and boring as hell. :-(

To me it is easy. That is not the issue. It just feels super repetitive to me. Unlike Tyria. The maps look and even sound great. Just find it super boring as of late.

The only HoT map I enjoy is Auric Basin. Verdant Brink is okay but I find the night portion very boring. Tangled Depths is not my cup of tea. I don’t like openworld mazes.

When I started playing, I do not quite understand the purpose of guild wars, then without much to do, I began to explore the maps, I ended up playing for 6 months to complete the Core Tyria. Playing casually, reaching a maximum of 2 hours per day.

For those who enjoy the aspect map exploration game, the HoT maps are a gift from the Gods, are state of the art.

For some reason that I do not know explain, I really like Dragon Stand. This map has the mysterious atmosphere that there is always something to discover. The meta-event with the Vigil leading the final blow in mordremoth, is one of the best.

At the very least, the title should be changed to better describe what the post is about. “Hot maps?” is insufficient. Suggest something like “Seeking opinions of HOT event chains” or “I think HOT maps are boring” which isn’t a good start to a thread but at least more informative. Frankly, I think this kind of opinion-validating thread is pointless in itself, but at the very least if it was titled correctly those who are interested can read it, and those who aren’t will know to avoid it.

Nope. I like events. The more the better! HoT maps deliver a ton of events, and they’re all part of a cycle that tells a story. I much prefer this to the random events and hearts I experienced while leveling in core Tyria.

I can’t rule out that farming, chest trains, etc. are better loot than running events in HoT, but I can tell you my bags fill up with loot faster in HoT than anywhere else I’ve been and I don’t even have to try. I can load up on loot by running events, farming the loot containers that are just lying all over the place, or both. I haven’t tried WvW, though. So maybe it’s better?

I also love the exploration aspects. The graphics in this game are pretty excellent across the board. But these crazy vertical layouts are just a step above. After learning my way around HoT, core Tyria seems dull by comparison – like walking across a flat plane.

But to each their own. I admit I’m a bit curious what you find so exciting about hearts, fewer events, and flat maps?

To be honest the meta events require too much organization and time given their lame rewards (although Octovine rewards are massive but low grade mostly). I find Karka farming more rewarding. The only time I spend now in HoT maps is to map complete my alts. I now spend over 90% in regular Tyria maps.

They are ok, you really need the movement masteries to get the most from them and to enjoy them the most. I have to say I hated them till I had maxed most of the masteries.
