Q:

As you know, currently Dry Top & Silverwastes are listed as Maguuma Wastes. Will Dry Top & Silverwastes be included as part of “The Heart of Maguuma” for Mastery Leveling?

It seems a bit unbalanced to have Verdant Brink as the only zone (Map realy) to train 5 Mastery Tracks. And 30+ Maps to train 2 Mastery Tracks. Even if Guild Halls are included in the “The Heart of Maguuma” zone that makes only 3 “Official” maps to train 5 Maguuma masteries.

If Maseries are progressed by Map Completion and Personal Story. The bulk of experience gained will only go to Pact Tyria Masteries. It seems unbalanced.

Verdant Brink is not the only map in the expansion.

As far as I can tell it doesn’t really matter in which map you get the exp. The difference between Tyria and Maguuma mastery tracks is simply where you are able to use the masteries.

For instance: you can only glide in the maguuma, but if you want to get the exp for the track in Iron Marches it should be totally fine =)

It could be I missed an announcement on experience being bound to locations (which would be a questionable design decision), but as far as I know it should work as above.

Also, evidence for 2 maps, between livestreams etc. But I’m betting there will be a few more. The average map count for all expansions I’ve seen in the past 10 or so years is 8. the least amount of maps I’ve seen being 5.

As I read the blog on Masteries, it seemed to me they said location determined which tracks you could advance.

As I read the blog on Masteries, it seemed to me they said location determined which tracks you could advance.

I’ll re-read that then, My understanding was that it determined which masteries you could use. I shall be back shortly ^.^

EDIT: Ok, im not sure which bit confuses you, but im guessing it os most likely this:

“The jungle itself provides the context through which you’ll earn and utilize Heart of Maguuma Masteries. As another example, Fractal Masteries will provide combat perks and more rewards within the context of Fractals. As you play specific content, you’ll become more effective within that content, reflecting your increasing skill as a player and opening up new possibilities.”

I believe this just means to say that the masteries are inspired by the jungle. aditionally: there are skill-point like points on the map where a player can unlock masteries, these -are- locked by mastery levels, i.e. some mastery points cannot be obtained without having gliding already unlocked.

The question of where you ought to accumulate the experience points however doesn’t seem to be mentioned, unless i’m reading over it =)

Ayrilana, as I said “Official” maps, implying that we have only been shown or given little information on maps. It is very possible more maps are included and they have not released that information. Thus far unless you know otherwise I believe Verdant Brink and the Guild Halls have been the only stated maps!? Other than the WvW & PvP maps.

Maybe this will help you understand my question?

Taken from Reimagining Progressions

“Each Mastery track is tied to a region of Tyria—they must be unlocked with Mastery points gained in that region and can only be trained in that region. With the launch of Heart of Thorns, there will be two Mastery regions: the Heart of Maguuma, encompassing all PvE zones that are part of the Heart of Thorns expansion, and the core Guild Wars 2 world, encompassing all PvE zones currently available in the game today. Since Mastery tracks can only be trained in their respective regions, the Mastery training bar will automatically change the Mastery track slotted when you change regions, reverting to the last Mastery track you had selected for that region. "

Those are Regions and Heart of Maguuma
So I refer back to my original question.

Biomes /= Maps. They’ve stated that there will be more than just Verdant Brink and its biomes. It’d be a little ridiculous to have shown us, and allowed us to play, 1/3 of the maps in the expansion.

It would seem the passage you quoted answered your question.

Two Mastery Regions:

Maps that become available with the release of Heart of Thorns (the Heart of Maguuma)

and/or

Maps that are currently available.

As Dry Top and The Silverwastes are currently available, I would guess they fall into selection number two.

Good luck.

I’ll give trying to train a tyria track a try in MW the next beta. If no official answer is supplied by then, I’ll be able to relay the experience.

HHhhmm, interesting thought!
Do you think it will work? If it does not, might it be something “we” may not be able to “test” or find out? I would think we could, but some times they limit features to things they want more data on (understandably). In any case I like your idea and I will do the same.

IKR!!
I wanted to see how the masteries would level with out event hunting or focusing on leveling. I was able to gain Glider Basics, Thick Wings 50%, Bouncing Mushrooms, and Blazing Speed Mushrooms Just unlocked. With no Boons, and a few events. I know they will get progressively more costly in the track. I imagine others were able to get farther in their unlocks by focusing on leveling them.

I enjoyed Gliding tons and the ability to jump, fall, glide, fall, glide, fall, land is SWEET Attached is our last minute in Hot Closed Beta
