My Best Personal Option for HoT
I can’t afford it for the foreseeable future. Money is tight to say the lest, but I do enjoy GW2, and don’t plan on rage quitting it. But I am disappointed somewhat with Anet’s price tag considering the amount of content (I care for that more than any “Vet” freebes).
My best option as I see it, is to wait for HoT to go sell on. That will likely happen about a year after its first day release (or buy it with whatever extra money around the holidays, which ever comes first).
Till then, I’ll avoid any PvPing, and maybe WvW as any player who does get HoT will have an edge via masteries and elite specializations. Guild activities and Living Story involving HoT is also be out of reach.
Long post short: Will have to wait awhile longer.
Well, if you wait until the holidays you will have more money and it will probably be on sale. Double win for you.

How do you know that the amount of content isn’t worth the price when you don’t know how much content is going to be in the xpac?
Masteries are a PvE progression system; they don’t have any affect on SPvP or WvW.
Elite Specs are just another option and aren’t numerically more powerful.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

There is sufficient information out already to safely make an educated guess at the amount of actual content in the xpac.

I think we will see if there is more content or not, if yes it would surely be very good, if not, alot of sales will be not be made until first ‘sale’ or holidays.
I sure hope you’ll get to play sooner more so than later!
Though I would test PvP and WvW at least, you never know^^ if it is bull you still can opt to wait, a try won’t hurt much.

Based on this sufficient information, can you make an educated guess on:
- how many maps there’ll be?
- If they’ll have instanced content and, if they do, how much?
- How many world bosses will there be?
- How many jumping puzzles will there be?
- Will there be any mini-dungeons?

Assuming it’s released at some point in the next 5-6 months. Hopefully.

Yes
how many maps? not enough for a 50 dollar price tag that much is certain.
instance content (like dungeons)? The is no indication whatsoever on instanced content and Anet has stated that all major feature have been reveal so the answer is none aside from guild halls.
World boss? the rest of the game has 1 or 2 world bosses per area so educated guess is 1 or 2.
JPs? who gives a kitten about JPs? Only special people enjoy those.
MiniDungeons? WTF is a minidungeon? If you are talking about caves and hidden areas within the map I sure there will some of those but since the number of maps = not enough, this too =not enough.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
The question is, how many maps are enough maps for you?

They are asking for 83% of what we paid (US)for the core game at launch. At least 50% of the content for 83% of the original price would be enough for an xpac.

For 50$ I’d like to see at lest two regions of the world map opened. In addition to Maguuma Wastes, maybe the Deldrimor Front, or the Crystal Desert. Or maybe the remaining part of Orr.
so you are saying roughly the content of 20 maps. I think we can fairly cut starter citys out of it as well as the maps which came through LS
(as we don’t know how many LS things we can get through the xpac)
I think WvW is hard to implement as well and the new borderland should cover xpac roughly in that aspect.
they showed us partly and tidbits of 3 maps were each map is around 3 times size/content than the current maps.
so they showed us halfway of that, what you expect. Roughly I mean. Though only in numbers of maps (we can’t gauge the amount of story missions and such).
I would say, there is a good chance that the missing 50% of map content needed are included, but in your case I would wait until after the release (release of more infos)
to decide if to buy for that price or to wait.
I can understand that

Last time I looked, ‘not enough’ wasn’t a number.
Not to mention that you’re not paying $50 just for the maps though.

Challenging group content was also one of the features mentioned, and they haven’t discussed this yet.
Not to mention Colin has specifically said that the Wyvern – or any of the open world for that matter – is not what they’re referring to when it comes to challenging group content, what does that leave?
World boss? the rest of the game has 1 or 2 world bosses per area so educated guess is 1 or 2.
So you’re assuming there’ll only be one area, Verdant Brink?
JPs? who gives a kitten about JPs? Only special people enjoy those.
Doesn’t change the fact it’s content.
MiniDungeons? WTF is a minidungeon? If you are talking about caves and hidden areas within the map I sure there will some of those but since the number of maps = not enough, this too =not enough.
Again, not enough isn’t a number.
We know that there are at least 3 Masteries pertaining to hidden areas – one for each Itzel, Nuhoch and Exalted.

That is why I keep evaluating (f you look at my posts in other threads) it’s current worth at $25 but I would be willing to pay $35 (maybe $40 if it came with a character slot) just cause I like the game.

Actually it really is that simple.
If ANet wants $50 for HoT – which is the price tag of the base game when it was released – the customer could say, for $50 I expect about the same content in the new HoT areas the base game offered.
quid pro quo
I think everyone agrees if I say HoT won’t be ANYWHERE near the amount of content the base game includes. Logical conclusion: HoT is overpriced.
